in RenoLock, is it feasible to replace Jaraxxus with Ysera? The way I see it, they are both late game cards that exist to win you the control matchup by generating repeated value and removal exhaustion. I know that Jaraxxus would be slightly better in this regard, but is Ysera a suitable replacement?

I only ask because I don't have Jaraxxus and hate having to craft class legendaries.

I was fine without the scientist and priests always had pretty damn good healing (not really sure if it got any better with this set but I don't see a huge difference), but yeah right on about Shamen and Warriors. The latter was always a bitch of a match but now with +10 armor if C'Thun is over 10 is just ridiculous.

Reynad = boss, semi-retired he played a children's educational game rather than HS last night
Gaara = dead star, nobody cares, gets 500 viewers
Hyped = dead star, hopefully he's okay
Ratsmah = creepy weirdo who honestly should not be doing this for a living but yet gets decent viewers
Eloise = only passionate and good player on team, she got 2nd NA in latest tournament yesterday and has nice viewers sometimes up to 10k, could pull a firebat and leave team for greener pastures
JustSaiyan = extremely average player/streamer in every respect, should be kicked
Reckful = Face of TempoStorm very entertaining but not a competitor
Kaldi = Attempt to poach from Europe to get wins but hasn't paid off yet
Frodan = will always be able to cast but wonder if he's being underutilized by the team

Looking at it, I'd say about 3 months. I know Reynad is deathly bored of Hearthstone, his results are ...all right but no tournament golds... I know he wants an Overwatch team, he might fold this team and take himself and Reckful with like 4 new players and go for it.

For all intents and purposes NA HS scene feels dead. Its another Blizzard forces our weak scene to compete on a world level and causes us to get discouraged and quit another eSport episode.

I can't begin to fathom how much money the team brings in for him, but Reynad might be better off just sticking to streaming full time and maintaining his website which isn't bad. Depends on the deck. I play midrange shaman and don't run any burn. If you can take board control you win. But yes, Shaman is strong, it's just not unbeatable like all the shieldbearers in here are claiming.

Go craft a shaman deck and try to ride an 80% win rate to legend if it's so OP, you'll see pretty fast that players are teching specifically to beat your ass and Zoo/Control Warrior are pretty fucking common.

Actually my mage deck has a 65% winrate because of that.
Dunno but it feels like you get mana wyrm in your opening hand in 2 out of 3 games.


And the scenario doesn't involve having 2 cards you want in your opening hand. You still have 4 more draws before turn 4. If you're second you have 13 chances of getting the cards you need until turn 4. If you have 2 copies of the cards that just increases your chance of getting them.
It's not unrealistic to have the nice cards. It's by no means guaranteed but it's not as unlikely as you make it out to be. The fact that 2 out of 3 games I play against Shaman go Trogg -> Totem ->Whatever the needed card is is a pretty good indicator.

Also 477 isn't just strong on turn 4. He's also strong on turn 10 because he leaves you with 6 mana, which is 2-3 more mana than other minions with the same stats do. Ogre is a 6 mana 6/7. So on turn 10 you get a 6/7 body and 4 mana. Yay!

Oh, yeah, it has overload (2). Damn, if only there were some good cards that unlock your overload. Like a 2 mana minions or a 2 mana spell that also deals damage.
Damn, imagine how awesome if would be if you also had minions that get stronger when you overload while also offering appropriate stats.

If you mulligan specifically for one card (as in you always throw every other card) you get the card you're looking for slightly more than 50% of the time.

When mage plays out a mana wyrn, the opponent can't answer it and it's followed up by a coined flamewaker? Yes, the game is over, but that's not going to happen all that often.

I was referring to TT/Totem Golem. Shaman has a pretty poor chance of dropping a FF on turn 4 unless he mulliganed for it in his opening hand which I never do. I run a single FF so I have a 1/20ish chance of drawing it on each turn, if you run two then you have about a 1/10 chance on each turn, it's still unlikely you have it on turn 4, no matter what your conformation bias is telling you.

And what if you don't also have a decent 3 drop? Playing the FF ruins your curve even if you can remove the overlord which happens very infrequently in my experience.

Shaman has the same chance to draw a turn 4 FF as any other deck has to draw removal. Sometimes you draw no removal and you die and sometimes you draw perfect removal and you gain the board immediately and the shaman loses 2 entire turns and the game.

When I play vs shaman the instances where I'm happy to see the FF played are about as numerous as the instances where I go "ah shit, I'm totally fucked now". The difference between you and I is I can be objective about things and I'm actually a good player while you'll just remember the times something wasn't readily answerable and then cry OP OP at it.

Also I will say that, as someone currently playing mostly shaman, the amount of times I'm comfortable dropping FF on turn 4 are pretty infrequent. There are just too many answers which people keep in order to deal with it that set you back too far. Freezing trap and sap are nightmares but hex and SWD are both 3 mana swings on turn 4 and are usually a total disaster, especially hex as it means your shaman opponent will seize the board and win unless you draw into your lightning storms at the exact right time and win the coinflips you need to.

Warriors shrug off FF with execute as well in almost every instance. Remember playing deathlord on turn 3 against warrior and then losing the game? Well this is kind of like that.

I should have clarified when I said it's bad matchups are winnable. Aggro shaman clearly has some very favorable match ups like miracle rogue and freeze mage, but its bad match ups are 40/60 or 35/65 at worst. Midrange shaman on the other hand doesn't really have any particularly strong match ups, but it doesn't have any particularly weak match ups as well. They all feel more or less even, hovering around 40%-60%. Whenever I played midrange shaman, I felt there was a lot of back and forth in the early to mid game until somebody came out on top in the late game. In even match ups for any deck, the player who understands the match up best will win. With all of mid sham's even match ups, knowing how to play your match ups is more important than any other deck, which makes it the most rewarding deck to play in the hands of a skilled player.

I don't play warrior but from what I understand SJOW's lists are pretty complicated and teched for specific high legend play.

You might be dealing with a combination of not fully understanding a difficult deck, and that deck not being totally optimized for low ranked ladder play. Often the best decks in tournaments or high legend are not the best decks at rank 15, esp if you're not a professional level player.

Also how much do you know about Fischer? He was a pretty interesting person, and I, and many others believe he refused to defend his title because he was afraid of losing his entire identity in life. When he discarded chess later in life and dismissed it as a bad game I think you need to see this from the perspective of someone who sold his entire life to a game and was then forced to accept that he was no longer the best, but instead of accepting it just said "nah fuck that game, it sucks".

And by the way, extremely deep opening prep is only seen at the absolute top of the top tier tournaments. There's an entire universe of chess before you get to the top 50 players in the world and trust me openings are not of such extreme importance until at least IM level, which is a strong professional player.

If you're discarding chess as a game because at the strong professional level there is a lot of memorization of move orders then I'm sorry for your stupidity.

And keep in mind, supercomputers haven't "solved" chess through memorization, they simply out-calculate humans by analyzing hundreds of millions of trees and branches of moves each fucking turn.

The top computer is rated about 3200 and the top human about 2850. The gap will only widen, but it's still somewhat amazing that the human mind can very nearly compete with a supercomputer running billions and billions of calculations per game.

This is almost sour grapes level of moving goal posts. It was claimed just a little over twenty years ago that computers couldn't beat humans at chess and would never beat us at Go. Then Deep Blue happened, and just recently Go went down too, and that wasn't through hard calculation either. Go wasn't brute forced, machine learning created a program to produce dynamic strategy. It did things that baffled Go experts but it won. No one has bothered to do that with chess because chess was beaten by simpler methods, but at this point it would be trivial, hypothetically the very same program that beat Go could be taught to beat Chess too.

It's not that the games are useless, but games are games, people are supposed to play them for fun. When you turn them competitive then it's about optimization. It used to be that the best human players were the best optomizers, they were the yardstick for the game. Now it's math and clever algorithims. That's when you start getting into academic arguments about whether or not a game is solved.
