Like that 5% on MCH's Hot Shot doesn't seem like shit, until you factor in that on their biggest Wildfires, you've got Hypercharge, Hawk's Eye, Blood for Blood, Raging Strikes, Wildfire, a potion, usually Disembowel and Battle Litany, usually at least some Trick Attack. So all of that stuff together is somewhere in the ballpark of a ~2.8 multiplier, and that 5% from Hot Shot ends up being up to 14% or so of the MCH's base damage.

Same thing with Fists of Fire. It's only 5% by itself, but that's being multiplied by 1.3x(GL3)*1.1(TwS)*1.1(DK), which makes it an ultimate boost of almost 8% of MNK's "base" damage (and unlike MCH this isn't factoring in temporary cooldowns).

I feel like with each raid tier, scheduling is becoming more and more of a problem with my static. We should have downed A8S already but we've only had the time to put in about 15 hours thus far, and only just seen the Legislation phase twice.

The people who were still raiding by the end of Gordias found Midas really fun.

A lot of people stopped raiding in Gordias and didn't start again when Midas released, because they found that they didn't really miss raiding.

A pretty significant chunk of people quit raiding in Gordias, and tried to come back for Midas, but found that they just didn't have fun with raiding anymore in general.

And a bunch of other people tried to raid in Midas but gave up because they couldn't hack it, because the average xivg skill level is basically at a point where they'd be clearing a Coil tier about a month or so into the catch-up patch, and Midas is still tuned to be significantly tougher than Coil ever was.

I think I preferred Gordias' DPS checks over Midas' mechanics checks.

Midas' mechanics just take so fucking long to get everyone on the same page for. Gordias you'd eventually overgear at least and could manage the checks it presented.
Although A3S last phase still took forever for people to get used to baiting proteans correctly

Personally I think the problem with Midas's mechanics checks is that the DPS checks are "low", but they're not "nonexistent", the way that they mostly were in Second Coil. In Second Coil you could overcome the mechanics checks fairly easily by just saying "Okay, put your fucking weapon away and just do mechanics until I say it's okay", and you still wouldn't really be in danger of hitting enrage (on any fight except T8) even if you spent like a good minute or two of the fight doing that.

Midas should have been like that, and then they should have released the current Midas Savage (without A6S nerfs) in 3.3 with title-only rewards the way they did SCoB.

It's a pity the customizable stats only come out on 3.3, if yoshida wasn't late with the relic and put the 3rd step on 3.2, almost every raider would be making relic for bis stats.

The other thing that doesn't get mentioned much about Midas is that it has some pretty ridiculous healing checks relative to every other raid tier.

Before it got nerfed, A6S had both the add phase of Brawler, and the really damaging elemental explosions in Vortexer, A7S has all those places where Sizzlespark stacks build up, on top of Sizzlebeam and Uplander Doom and sections where one healer gets put out of range of the party. And almost everything from Brute Justice on in A8S is a giant Fuck You to the healers.


The only thing in the game's history that was even close to being that demanding of the healers was A4S, and that was ONLY because the healers were expected to put out a bunch of DPS in addition to healing AND to deal with having their MP wiped down to zero like 3-4 times.

If you were lucky enough to have top-notch healers even in the tiers that didn't require top-notch healers, it probably isn't so noticeable, but I think there were probably a lot of groups who thought that they were in good shape for Midas only to find out that their healers couldn't cut it.
