The game being a direct sequel doesn't affect it's enjoyment for me.

The quality of the game rather, as a product, the way it challenges the player and introduces them.

I consider Bloodborne to have the smoothest combat, and best tonality.

I consider dark souls 1 to have the most twisting and enrapturing world design that draws players in like no other in the series.

I consider dark souls 3 to have the best pacing, that both introduces players to the games world, and test them as they continue onwards, climaxing with the end game, something I feel no other game in the series does.

But with Dark Souls 2? There are great aspects, but it feels a bit bloated, and demons souls is slightly limp nowadays in comparison to the new games, a lot of the bosses fall flat and the music isn't as great.

I've never really understood the "direct sequels" criticism.

I still don't understand why FROM put literal shit that you can throw in the game.

I mean if you think about it, they had to have a meeting about that shit. Someone had to present that idea to a committee of board members and get it approved. Someone had to code it, someone had to make the art and the sound design for when it's thrown. They had to figure out the mechanics of how big the poopsplosion would be, how much toxic damage would be balanced, etc.

This was not a simple feat. A lot of thought must have gone into putting throwable poop in the game. Someone high-up had to say "you know what this game needs? Throwable poop. No, we can't finish this game unless we have throwable poop, we NEED that in this game!" And then they needed a group of adults to hear this and go "yeah you're right, this game DOES absolutely need throwable poop! We can't release the game until it is created and tested!"

As an anon who uses sorcery regularly, it just takes some time to get used to. Like, it's not exceptional even if you know how to use it, but it's not /that/ bad and I think people give sorceries and pyromancies too much flak. If anything, it's offensive miracles that are kinda mediocre, but I'd rather call those difficult to use because, damage-wise, they're actually not bad.

Regular quality simply have access to a wider range of weapons that are more easy to use. Also, you don't really have to maintain FP as much when you're using weapons-- even if you tend to generously use WAs.

I swear dark souls 3 is "one step forward, two steps back" with a lot of things. Dark Souls 2 made some improvements and while not the strongest souls game in the series, 3 failed to take quite a bit from the good aspects of 2 as well as 1.
