There's nothing wrong with Astolfo and Joan inherently, but their character development went side up when Seig came into the picture.

Astolfo was the fun side character who got into mischief, and people liked him for that at first. Joan was another interesting character at first who was sent to regulate the war, and couldn't math too well, and was summoned a few countries away as she had to hitchhike to the grail war despite remaining positive.

They were fun in their own right, but then they were forced to the lime-light, and people wonder if any of these roles really suit them. Astolfo was fine as a side character, he didn't really need to be a main character. Joan was fine as a servant in her own right who stayed strong and was going to reel all these various servants in, but then she became the love interest heroine for some reason.

I think being based off her is okay. I honestly think that without Sieg, her character would be great, at least in my opinion.

The whole beginning section with her was amazing, fun, and light hearted. The way a Saint should make you feel. Hell I would've been fine with her teaming up with other people and going against Amakusa since his existence was against the rules, but Sieg's romance shit is completely irredeemable.
