I didn't bother finishing that battle, but it took me like 60% of the ammunition from 2 Hellcannons to bring a single tower down. So I assume I wouldn't have gotten more than 1-2 breaches out of them?

And you can't really afford to sit around much since you already start within range of the towers. Although I guess with shields they aren't this much of a deal.

I don't remember if they have the "armour piercing" trait but walls, towers and gates have stupidly high armour.

Artillery doesn't necessarily have armour piercing for some reason so they can't hurt it, empire great cannons fuck up walls like it's nothing if you have a few of them.

I normally play on normal. In my game the vampire cucks started taking over the lands of the minor counts so I stepped in. I fought a massive battle, about 1.5 stack of mine vs 3.5 stacks of his and ended up losing. I was able to expel the undead hoard the following turn since I had reinforcements coming. Now with the main undead army gone I'm just trolling into sylvania. But that huge battle was fun even though I lost. What difficulty does the AI pump out decent amounts of armies without getting ridiculous?

Vargeists are terrible. Do not use them.

Squishy, don't actually deal damage like is implied, and get stuck in combat and can't leave. Their damage dealer attribute does nothing, and Frenzy adds a grand total of 4% charge bonus(what the fuck?) and 8 Melee Attack(what the fuck?)

VC is undertuned as fuck, your only option is Vargulf and Great Weapon Grave Guard spam. All of your units suck.

People see the "unit has been wiped out!" flag and think that VC sucks. That the point of them. I can't seem to lose with them either. I lose 5-6 zombies every battle but I still when the battles, and I can insta rez more. The bats hae to be the best unit in the game, they seem to 1v1 and route any archer unit while being able to flank at any time. It is even easier to win vs races that feel feel sicne they seem to instantly route. Even when I want to spend big bucks for a professional army, grave guard wipe out the enemy front line.

The only problem with VC is that the auto resolve tells you the enemy has a huge advantage.

I agree, but regeneration in general needs a buff. It only heals for something like 4 hp a second. For a monster with more than six thousand hp, it's not even a drop in a bucket.

Most fights last around 10 minutes with the first 2-3 minutes having the two lines walk to meet one another, so that leaves something like 5-7 minutes of actual fighting. During a period of 7 minutes, the Varghulf will heal for 1680 hp, which is nothing.

I think if they buffed regeneration or perhaps caused it to scale with unit size, the vamp monsters would be less useless, and pulling them from the fight to heal would actually be a useful tactic.

There's an idea, maybe boost regeneration out of combat, to make them more hit-and-run and less tank focused?

They performed fine for me. I first had lance black knights (I figured they would work more like in medieval 2) but when the tooltip says they are shock only and suck at extended melee, it really fucking means it. They require constant micro and attention or they start dropping like flies. I could actually leave the wraiths alone after a charge and they could still keep up the killing quite well so I kept them around. No terrain penalty is a big help too. Maybe sword black knights are a better choice but I didn't bother replacing them.

Didn't abort the grudge to assassinate a Border Prince character when they were completely steamrolled by Tilea, and it's literally the last grudge in the book. I have every other win requirement met. Now, after 100 turns of investment, I incite a successful rebellion in attempt to resurge the Border Princes, only to have Tilea piss off my allies, and because I can't fucking tell them to hold back, the bastards send three doomstacks to destroy the city (which they can't occupy) AND THE REBELS, for some fucked up reason. To be proper, you get a diplomatic buff called "Shield of Humanity" which gets you huge bonuses with all other factions that also have the buff, which means all humans (Bretonnian and Empire troops).

Once the Chaos faction is wiped out for the second time the buff goes away and relations slowly decay back to normal.

A funny thing about this is that I live in Alsace, a historically German region which got conquered by France in the late 17th century and then changed hands several times.
There was a village called Altdorf here during the German period, a pretty common name since it means "old village".
Now, as a French village, it was renamed to Altorf, which sounds basically the same by doesn't mean anything anymore. It's a bit underwhelming when you think about it.

Holding onto Altdorf and Marienburg for all it's worth, maxing both provinces as I fight off the constant fleets from Skaeling and the wandering orc warbands. Karl is level 20 before Chaos even starts appearing.

Man, fuck this campaign and fuck the dwarves. I just can't use their playstyle at all, I struggle a lot with battles and don't even get moments to replace my warriors for longbeards in between fights with orcs and rebellions in Zhulbar.

The steam tank is jus 4 fun but I think havving both cannons and rockets in one army is well worth it. You'll be able to fight pretty much every battle defensively as the enemies rush to your line of handgunners to avoid being bombarded by your arty. It's hilarious watching them rush to your lines in desperation and then suffer tremendous morale shock at the last second as rows of handgunners open fire as they get into range. I've seen countless enemy units just turn and flee when they make it within range of the handgunners with a setup like this.

Mortars are extremely cost efficient and will serve you well throughtout the game. They can even fire over your own men at close range.
Steam tanks are amazing if you stick them in front of your main line, they can snipe and take damage.
Great cannons are good for sniping, but you might as well shell out for steam tanks.

Rockets aren't pretty cost inefficient, and are pretty situational. They rock in chokepoints, whe the enemy is grouped together, and when the enemy is charging downhill at you. The low firing angle means they're useless once the enemies are in melee.
The hellblaster is garbage. Shit range, no mobility, long reload. just field some outriders or handgunners for the same price.

Never fighting Chaos Marauders in-battle again. I've been trying not to pause at all to improve my gameplay, and overall it's been going OK, but fuck this shit.

My reinforcements come in from the wrong fucking side, while I'm literally surrounded. I can't organise them, because I've got to try and deal with my original team melting. And holy shit, hounds and marauders. You simply can't react real time to that shit. There's too many of them, and they fucking snipe any kind of fragile unit like it ain't no thing.

I scraped a win, but it was so Pyrrhic I'm basically going to restart my campaign, because fuck reloading because of a loss, but also fuck spending twenty turns trying to deal with everyone who was scared of me for the last few turns no attacking because my army got crippled by a bunch of meme dogs.

My army comp was Karl, A celestial wizard, 4 units of Greatswords, 6 units of halberds, 5 units of crossbowmen and two shielded spearmen and the reiksgaurd + Balthsar and his seven mook units.

AND THEY ALL FUCKING DIED to three stacks of chaos squad, mostly composed of hounds, marauders and spawn, with a few hellcannons and the like.

I have no idea how to deal with these shits. They just charge everywhere, break off from attacks without warning to attack somewhere else, and rip through anything short of dedicated elite melee units.

The marauder horsemen are nearly as bad.

VC really have the finest balance of economy vs expansion in the game so far. You can't sit and turtle too much because people will out-expand you, but you can't expand too quickly or lack of corruption will cause revolts across your empire. If you can find the correct tempo they play wonderfully though. At the start try investing into that tech in the bottom right block that spreads corruption to neighboring provinces, then following up with the +15% income from all buildings tech. Spread west into the Reichland and just leave the North alone as a buffer against Chaos. Once you get your hands on Altdorf, Marienburg is a stone's throw away and then you're set for the rest of the game.

Nothing in this game is "really tough". But to let you know have a very stable (by comparison to others) position on the map, where they aren't really pressured. If you were to start at say, where the empire is, you'd quickly see that vampire cunts don't hold out nearly as well as the empire for good reason.

Because it's very slow to expand, and entirely tied to extremely expensive buildings, that are always at risk of being sacked, and are likewise extremely expensive to replace.

Which means that if the AI decides to give you the run around with a powerful stack or two, you're going to have a really bad time coupled with benny hill taunting you in the background.

Either way, Spirit Leech and Fate of Bjuna from the lore of death are really the only two offensive spells worth casting at the moment since they're so over the top, even on large unit sizes. Imagine if they properly scaled.

The main fucking problem I have with chaos is once I get a big enough army of about 3 stacks even if two of those stacks have the level 5 horde building giving -20% upkeep costs I still have 4000-6000 in negative income, meaning that even if I sack a city for 10,000 cash I'm getting drained of cash.

Dance Macabre is decent, Invocation of Nehek is good for keeping your lord's health up at low levels or saving monstrous units (but you won't see any real effect if the unit is currently in combat) but anything else is pretty low impact. Just beeline fate of bjuna on vampires, don't even look at lore of vampires unless you're using a necromancer lord (but why would you do that in the first place)
