normalfags DO NOT care about the issues with GDQ, or are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because they're attached to a charity. all of the controversy about GDQ is relegated to a niche speedrunning site unknown to 90% of GDQ's audience, individual runners' Twitters, and 4chan, so there's no way they'll even see it. there is absolutely no way to leverage public opinion in such a way that GDQ would be forced to address the concerns raised by the community. or, if we do, it goes nowhere: see the charity choice episode. GDQ has already decided what type of organization it is, so naturally any charity that doesn't fully cover the event costs or allow them to make a profit (a profit which they said was a "rainy day fund" for the event in the case of a charity not covering the event costs) is out of the window. there is no incentive for them to change the status quo.

on top of that the speedrunning community is made up of autists and beta males who are so grateful for an opportunity to hang out with their speedfriends or fellow stream monsters that they'll willingly pay whatever GDQ asks them to to attend. so it just becomes a cycle of controversy -> GDQ addressing it in some milquetoast way -> the community forgetting it ever happened and attending another GDQ. how many people who say they're "done" with GDQ decide to submit the next marathon?

remember the "open letter" to the "GDQ community" that was posted on the SDA forum? remember how they promised to stop banning threads that "no longer served a purpose" or censoring discussion? you can say grav was being passive aggressive with his thread, but it's fucking absurd that the chief organizer of GDQ was allowed to fade into obscurity while still receiving a paycheck with PCF, and stay there for two years. but it's irrelevant, so it's locked.
