Suikoden 3 is good despite the 3d. As is the one on the 3ds. 4 is bad 5 is hit or miss.

Breath of fire is great. 1 isn't fun to play. 2 might be a bit dated but is endlessly interesting. 3 has my favorite feeling of a journey in a game with the final boss location feeling like "we made it all the way over here" and 4 is just a good game. Period

There's also the saga series. People generally agree frontier 1 is of quality but my favorite is frontier 2. It's also soul crushingly hard.
