How do I install Mysterydungeonchunkhax? Everytime I do it just hangs on a yellow screen even after having openend another homebrew app first.

I'm reading a guide about getting CFW on 3DS right now because I want to change FE:F to Japanese voices. It says that you only need the browser to load the homebrew launcher and the homebrew launcher is apparently all you need to make the game use the Japanese VO if you already own the game (with HANS https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/comments/47c7w6/fire_emblem_fates_hans_undub_version_3_silent/)
Did I get that right? I already own FE:F but going through that whole process only to change the voices seems a bit excessive. I'm not interested in piracy at all.

It's because homebrew is the entry to CFW (and piracy), so obviously Nintendo will try to patch homebrew access which is why it's getting harder and harder to go into homebrew.

Realistically, no it doesn't. As long as you follow the instructions you're golden. Fuck, most of the stuff you can get wrong won't brick you, there are like 2-3 things you need to be sure to get right in order to not brick and they are very obvious.

I'm really pissed i can't fucking understand how gba agb_firm works under luma3ds! someone can enlight me? i've a emunand 10.3\ sysnand 9.0 (unlinked) and everytime i try to install the patched cia 0004013800000202 it says to me it's already installed (pic related). So after that i try to install the vc cia of gba game (nand + emunand via FBI) it works but when i let it start it says to me "An error has occured..." Am i doing some shit wrong?

Hello /hbg/, Im that guy still scared about installing cfw on 3ds and treatin his console like pet.

Just another quick question out of curiosity - how exactly cfw differs from official firmware on 3ds? I mean, it is just the same firmware with removed anti-piracy checks and left backdoors to gain additional controls or the changes go even deeper?

Also, in case of installing a9lh, when you "link" emuNAND with sysNAND, does it basically replace the sysNAND content with emuNAND or take image of its content, modify it and then paste back, but with changed booting part, so it forces console to autoboot the SD card firmware instead of this left in internal console memory? Some guides mention how you can make 3ds boot into unmofidied official firmware with a9lh installed, so I assumed it might be like the second option.

Monster Hunter and Smash are very resource intensive games that pushed the o3DS to its limits. If your o3DS is running MH4U, it is not running anything else. So every time you quit the game, it has to reboot everything. This isn't a problem on the N3DS because the N3DS has more power.

So how do I know if FBI is installing to NAND or SD on the newest one? On the previous iteration(Before the entire rewrite) you could choose yourself, but every time I do it on the new one I feel like something bad is going to happen even if it does install to SD.

A backup is a security copy.

Okay, so, I got to part 4 on the OTP guide, and I had my rednand setup, and I misread that I was supposed to format my sysnand after that. Now it says to format my rednand twice. I have formatted it once, but I wonder, if it's supposed to go on a back and forth linking thing, where one format on one side unlinks, but then a format on the other side re-links, then does that mean that I should format only once?

Just make sure to format the system before starting the whole process, that way the downgrade to 9.2 won't fail.

Plailect himself said that while it's not a necessary step (cause' the odds of plaisys failing are low), you can do it if you want to be 100 % safe.
The thing is, lately there has been some people getting soft-bricks at 9.2, so I'm pretty sure that sooner or later the format will be included as mandatory in the guide.

Basically all applications check the version of the NFIRM kernel, which is a 3 part version system following MAJOR_VER.MINOR_VER-REVISION_VER. For some reason the system applications only check for MAJOR_VER.MINOR_VER, revision is irrelevant. If the firmware is older than the check, it will refuse to boot. From 9.6 to 10.4, the NFIRM MINOR_VER remained the same. However, in 11.0, they bumped MINOR_VER (2.50 -> 2.51). The only reason stuff like rxTools and anything else that uses an outdated firmware still works is because Nintendo didn't update home menu, ErrDisp, or any other essential applications in order to check for the new version.

Once they do update any of these (likely to happen in 11.1), rxTools, ReiNAND, and GW, will break as they try to firmlaunch an older firmware. ReiNAND will update quickly, GW will update soon (TM), but rxTools will never update because all the developers have ceased work on it with the exception of duke_srg who said he isn't working on the CFW part.

Had the rxTools codebase been decent, other devs would have picked it up to continue it, but because of how terrible it is it will die sooner rather than later.

And I'm fucking glad

Guys I got my system back to 9.2.0, installed homebrew and then followed this tutorial (https://gbatemp.net/threads/installing-rxtools-9-2-0-20-w-unlinking-updating-online-access.409489/) to try and install emunand+rxTools cfw.
But then something wrong happened along the way and I can't continue following said tutorial.
I'm still able to turn on the system but rxtools isn't doing what is supposed to do and I I`m assuming the emunand setup didn't work the way it was supposed to

I want to start over and try another cfw

Will I be all right just formating my sd card or do I need to run some special software /use the sysnand backup that I made?

The softbricks aren't directly related to ambassador status, there's tons of variety in softbricks. Nobody knows for sure what causes them, that's just idle speculation that's been copied into the guide for no real reason.

What we do know is that systems that have had tons of usage or things like system transfers are more likely to experience it than systems that haven't, and N3DS systems with ambassador definitely fall into that category. Formatting them seems to remove just about all risk.

You can back up a good portion of saves with svdt (pre-9.6 games). Just using homebrew has no chance of softbricking. This should let it run on more recent games that have an xml file for it: https://github.com/ihaveamac/9.6-dbgen-xmls/
