I'm trying to add the ability to go prone to the actor.ltx file in CoC, but I'm experiencing a CTD without a message whenever the unpacked actor.ltx file exists within the ..gamedata\configs\creatures\ folder. I used the unpacker provided on moddb, so I'm not sure where I'm going wrong. I checked my install dir, docs folder, and fsgame_coc.ltx files, but I don't appear to have a crash log available. After the first CTD, I tried changing the ph_box 0/1/2 values back to the default from the freshly unpacked actor.ltx from CoC's config.db file, but the CTDs persist. Can someone point me in the right direction? Apologies for the lag of logs, I'll gladly post if I need to manually setup a directory.

Yeah, designing your own ships is pretty fun. Just a bit of advice, never build a carrier until you're pretty confident with the game, airplanes in WS2 are borderline useless. They're kinda okay in WS1 and actually good in Warship Commander.

Either way, you'll need helis to recover treasures at some point, but you can just put those on most kind of ships as long as they support landing pads.

I thought 0692 was pretty fun, but it got a bit silly with the autoturrets (mounted rape machines that spin and kill you in an instant) and later on, such insanely powerful artifacts and armor that you could become virtually invincible (to everything except autoturrets)

Disappointed to hear 0693 wasn't well-received, since besides those above complaints I liked 0692 a lot and it was relatively stable for a STALKER mod.

It's very different to 0692. New quests etc. I played it last year so I don't know how much changed but the only drawback to me were the AI spidey sense. There were loads of quests and they made good use of the new maps. I'd recommend it.
CoC could be fun but once you take the story/quests out of the maps a lot of them are very meh. Also there's something about the CoP engine that is not interesting or atmospheric at all to me.

The melee slot, there are only three melee weapons, the knife, Gordon's crowbar and a lead pipe that is just a shitty quest item.

Because psy damage from suits is irrelevant unless you can go over 100% (you can't, with any suit) If you go at 50% psy resistance from suits + 50 % from artifacts you'll still get damage. While if you go over 100% with artifacts your psy health will NEVER decrease.

When I was master rank in Cordon the Army was using grenade launchers at the ass. Bandits also had a lot better guns and nearly always have artifacts on them when I pass through Wild Territory / Garbage now.

There's a lot, lot more in the DM's guide. The Player's manual intentionally leaves a lot not totally answered, to the point that reading the DM's guide feels like seeing all the inner workings. The player's guide is short, sweet and everything you would know as a stalker, nothing more.

A lot of it is intended to force the DM to be creative. There's some shit in there S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wouldn't have the balls to try, like the Iron Bastard or the Pox Bear. It's best to read Roadside Picnic first to get an idea of where it's coming from because the difference between S.T.A.L.E.R. and Roadside Picnic is basically Star Wars and Star Trek. The world of Stalker the Scifi Roleplaying game is one where not everything may be understandable, one where a path you take one day may be completely safe and the next run into the zone it'll be nearly lethal. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. hints at that, but never quite gets there. It's basically that opening period of stalker where you don't yet know how everything works, and everything is really unknown and scary, but for an entire game.

Let me check. The original book is aprox 240 pages and splits the book into three sections: The Player's Book, The Gamemaster's book and Zone France. The Player's book is only 80 pages and is pretty thin, but it's meant to give you an idea of the world and even then you're only supposed to know it if you are playing an experienced Stalker. The DM's guide has some pretty awesome shit for Anomalies, Inorganisms, and Mutated Zone creatures, once you get past the rules.

This is translated from Finnish. It simplifies a lot and leaves a lot out, as well as the Institute isn't as big of a deal in the books. This isn't D&D. A lot of the game is mystery+atmosphere, a mix of co-operative puzzle solving and horror. You're not meant to go in knowing how most of the artifacts or anomalies work, but figure that out for yourself and possibly get fried.
For example, there's an artifact called a weight that pretty much cannot be lifted unless it is touching a living creature. i.e. you can hold it in your hand, but if you put it in your pocket it'll nail your coat to the ground until you can get your hands on it. How are you supposed to get that out of the zone and into the hands of a buyer? How will that interact with other artifacts/anomalies?
That's up for the players to figure out and the book gives a solution from the book's flavortext group.

Also yeah, the preface is pretty boring. The player's guide is pretty good, even if it doesn't say much. It's a very unique setting.

Roadside Picnic in-universe would probably be either a piece of fiction, or something that didn't have changes nearly as large in scope as the ending implies if you want to make it cannon. The average person not knowing about all of the Zones would basically be just about the average person knowing the names of every terrorist attack of the past 20 years. It was a big deal, but it wasn't something everyone would know, especially with how it's been brushed aside. At least that's been my read of it.

It's mostly for roleplaying sake to keep the setting believable. The average joe stumbling into the zone with no training isn't going to know what a gravicocentric is and will have to learn through experience.

If you want to keep RSP cannon with your campaign, a cool idea I came up with was that the Golden Orb worked like the Room from Tarkovsky's Stalker, where it reads your innermost desires, and Red's innermost desire was for his child to have her humanity back. She can now talk, and live in society with a daily shave and contacts from The Butcher, she graduates college, but she's called back to the Zone and eventually becomes an infamous lone wolf stalker named "Mummy" who wraps themself in bandages to hide her fur on long expeditions.

Okay, i'll give you an honest answer.
I think it could be interesting, but chances are it'll be crap. The last game these guys made was an unbalanced Free 2 Play browser shooter if I recall.

It seems to be targeting the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans of russia as they are a large, lucrative group by having a similar look, but outside of russians with shitty morals and AK's inside of a shitty place the two share little in common outside of a realism focus.

There's no science fiction elements, no mutants, no artifacts, no risk v.s. reward gameplay for dealing with whether or not taking this problem this way is a good idea.

From the look of the game, I want it to be good, but I doubt it.

I wish some of the old anomalies would come back. I liked the idea of moving anomaly fields like the Rusty Hair Anomaly and the Fog Anomaly, they seemed a lot more creative, deadly, an exotic than "zap pit and invisible flamethrower".
Witch's Jelly also sounds really cool. Metro 2033 had cooler anomalies than STALKER.

Fuck there has been a lot of that kind of crash lately. MAYBE if the task_functor thing breaks something that could explain it, though I'd imagine they'd have checks thrown in to not break anything. I gave darryl write access to warfare recently, though I'm not sure if what he was talking about fixing is what would be causing these issues.

Right now I just have the player being spawned like any other NPC, so you get whatever the script gives you. Luckily that will typically mean I can just tweak some variable to make it give the npcs lower quality weapons (though keep in mind the faction_start_values will effect the player too, so duty would have better weapons at start than a loner typically). I may or may not do tiers, the goal was to create a more fluid randomization system that lets early stalkers have a small chance at having a good weapon and experienced stalkers a chance to have shit weapons (though its uncommon to find powerful weapons at first). The code kinda splits it up into tiers though with randomization added in to blur the lines (novice stalkers start looking between 0% and 25% in the list). Honestly if you find something out of order you should mess with it and throw it on pastebin or something, I can always just bookmark that shit for later or something.

You can get into the stash area by piling up snork or zombie bodies by the shed. Otherwise you need to find the dead military guy's body in the factory (the one with the healing Beril) and get up on the pipes above him. Move in the rough direction of the stash and you'll get warped to it.

Huh, didn't think the l85 or famas were that bad of guns honestly (other than seeing one or two people rip hard on them here recently). The L85A1 is heavy as fuck and _really_ unreliable, its only upside is that it's (supposedly) accurate. The L85A2 is an entirely different deal from the reliability standpoint, but SoC and every other game makes it really clear that the L85s in STALKER are the A1s, and it shows.
As far as I know the FAMAS F1 is heavy as fuck, has stupid recoil thanks to its operating system, isn't that reliable (again, thanks to its operating system), uses proprietary magazines, its optimized to use shitty old 5.56 SS109 ammo, and using more modern SS190 not only makes it less accurate but also damages it.
I don't think you ever hear someone talking about them because it's well known that both are shitty rifles.

And yeah, the configuration tool idea isn't bad at all. We could achieve good gunplay relatively easily and ship that config as the default one, worst case scenario we could make multiple "presets" or something.

I start the game, it shows the little logo thing, then goes to the screen where it'd usually show the AMD logos and other stuff. It never shows anything. It's 100% black. Earlier, it worked fine. Now, it opens what looks like somehow two copies of the game or something, freezes, and has to be end processed.

Can I do anything, or do I basically just say fuck it and reinstall from scratch?

Sneaking is more realistic than it is game-balance-ish.
In real life if you're out in a shithole like that and you know some mutants could be sneaking out in some bush you'd have your eyes and ears on full alert even when you were in safety. There's a reason the military wears camo, there's a reason gillie suits have been invented, there's a reason you have to be taught how to be truly quiet and crouching down low and stumbling about won't cut it.

More like small villages with just paths out in deep deep DEEP woods where the trees get close enough together to make some walls around areas.

I'd also like to see more rainy mud road areas, less dusty dirt roads.

I'd also like to see more of Limansk except with better shit in the area instead of just a linear teleportation hall followed by monolith.
Imagine a more open, less linear Limansk with actual faction spots, a bar, some big anomaly fields, areas that connect the underground to the overground seamlessly like walkway tunnels and sewer connection, anomaly fields that have accommodated themselves into houses, ect.
Pripyat is nice but it's too open and too cinder-blocky.

Red Forest and Darkscape are your favorites then? Forest environments are nice to look at but super annoying to navigate because they have no apparent landmarks, wherever you look it's just trees, need to check with the map constantly. If you make forest super dense it'll only get more confusing.
