It was quite disappointing after Sophie, but it wasn't bad. I didn't enjoy it as much as Ayesha, but still more than E&L+.
To go into more details, the battles are really, really, easy. Mechanics-wise it's cool and flashy, but it's still really easy; hard mode is roughly E&L+ difficulty. I liked the characters more than E&L+, and the overall story is quite nice, but it still doesn't really resolve Dusk problemthey only prepare something that might be able to stop Dusk, and that's it, and the additional plus scenes sometimes are inconsistent with some old scenes.

I like the Arland-like atmosphere. The characters and their everyday life are fun, though admittedly some story sections do feel a bit forced (Julio's and the last arc of the main story comes to mind). The alchemy system is really fun, and I personally love the battle system, mechanically it doesn't look as cool and flashy as Shallie's but personally I enjoyed it more. It also has quite decent difficulty on hard, and they also added another difficulty if that's not hard enough. And obviously the usual Gust-tier music. I still lament the loss of time limits, but other than that I really like most of the things there.

SoSC is a more classic drpg, but with new mechanics to keep it fresh. It also gets really fucking hard in the second half, but not in unfair ways, just makes you more careful and force you to use every tool available to you
Ray Gigant is very unconventional, but also very, very easy. People praise the animations, but for me the vn parts and some interface animations looked weird.
SoSC is technically longer, but only because you revisit dungeons so many times, I wish the game had a lot more of them

I'd say that Phantom Brave would deserve that remake, because it has one of the most feelsworthy stories in any games, but it's being held captive by the gameplay itself that is not as good as it could be. I just think it's a huge shame that the game of that level of love put into it gets left in the shadows when it especially would benefit from HD treatment and revamped gameplay mechanics in the style of Rhapsody's DS remake.
But yeah, I know it's not going to happen. GFP and DD2 on Vita, though, those are the ones I would definitely be throwing money at Day One. And seeing how little people played or cared about Soul Nomad back in the day, it would also deserve a re-release.
