I've talked about this before. ToDes is worthless outside of the whole "open pots on a new character" thing.

All it does is give good Epics to a small percentage of the population instantly - thereby completely failing at preventing people from getting Epics easily - and give nothing good to the most dedicated percentage of the population, who might never get a good Epic if unlucky - thereby completely failing at rewarding people for their hard work.

Same thing happens with Hells. People who work hard are arbitrarily punished, people who don't work hard are arbitrarily rewarded. I know a lot of people defend the Hell grind because Epics are so fucking strong and they SHOULD be rare, but both the Hell grind and ToDes fail to make them rare at all for a significant percentage of the population.

The hell fragment system would be practically meaningless. You could get your Epic weapon in 30-40 Hells, and a full set within a few hundred.

The only way this could work would be if they upped the cost of doing Hells substantially.

The former. There'd be no point in playing the game anymore if you could just get what is essentially the best gear in the game in less than a month. Nobody would run OV, Ancients, TA, or Anton. I actually leveled my last 3 characters to 85 via scenario dungeons without using boosters, exp pills, or level up tickets.

I generally don't touch the RNG slot machine that is the "endgame".

Me too. I have created dozen of characters, I keep forgetting to get use boosters and shit, and most of the time I even pay attention to dialogues. I don't even care about "gearing up" for raids and PvP in most online games I play.
But "itemization" (and dressing up) still is the main aspect in this game, especially for me. I love to fight AND to search for cool items with cool effects, and to try them out on enemies and bosses (that usually means more fighting, so it is an eternal circle of grinding fun). I even waste my time farming meteors to buy silly boss uniques.
Loads of classes with different playstyles and customization keeps the game interesting even after visiting Meltdown dozen of times.

There is nothing wrong with your mindset, many people can love the same thing for different reasons, but you can't ignore that other reasons to love it exists.

Most dungeon-crawling/grindfest games are like that in one way or another. DFO reminds me a lot of Phantasy Star Online (another game I play every now and then, since the v1 release) in many ways.
