Well, look at it this way. Imagine fighting a boss and rolling into your allies trying to evade attacks. Souls games don't have people magically walk through because hitboxes matter, it isnt a tab target. Now apply this to a massive amount of people and you have a cluster fuck of a game, one that typically enjoys narrow and good level design in corridors. MMO design is just the antithesis of what souls is. Many games have this problem, Elder Scrolls sure wasn't as hell meant to be an MMO but they tried it anyways and it flopped.

Yeah but that's Monster Hunter. Also it's limited in the MMO aspect. Keep in mind those bosses also need large arenas for their large bosses. -most- souls bosses are small if not modestly sized by comparison. In the end though if you did that design it would hardly be souls and just be Monster Hunter using dark souls weapons and spells etc. There's also the balancing aspect. AI gets very hard to handle when multiple targets are in the vicinity. Is one sorcerer with RTSR setup just gonna blast away while a shield bro holds the boss aggro, or do you give the boss room-wide capabilities to prevent that, requiring taking advantage of i-frames or some kind of defense effectively making more of an action mmo.

The moment you saw the item in the boss room you would pick up then you would read "storm ruler" and know exactly what to do, the real problem is that it only takes 5 hits to kill him and its really easy to charge the attack since Yhorm's moves have long recovery and the "fall down" period he has from each hit, not counting the buff midway fight is an essentially free hit. To fix Yhorm you would need to one of the following:

1-Hide the storm ruler elsewhere so you could quest it for it.
2-Make it hit way less hard so players can have more chances to fuck during the fight.
3-Make the charge take longer time so have to carefully plan when to start trying charging.
4-Remove Yhorms hit states, shorten his recovery time and make his 2nd phase instantaneous.

Right now he is a "one trick pony for one time only" boss, genuinely bad.
