Sure, some cards are worth more than others. But money is worth maybe a third at best of what it takes to become a good duelist. Unless you exclusively play on your computer, of course. In the long run, however, it's merely a small price to pay if you intend on going competitive. I'd never have what it takes to make bank off of children's card games, just because living the life of a competitive player seems like it would be very taxing. Whether it's Yugioh or any other popular game out there with a decent scene, I've seen the shit that most pros tend to go through and I'd probably break under pressure. It's a LOT of responsibility to go pro when it comes to anything.

You're treating Yata as an insurance policy for your unbreakable board scenario. Yata isn't very good at that. Its a brick that doesn't combo, it's awful in multiples, and it needs a normal summon. If you can make your floodgate board and Yata them out of drawing an out thats fine, but chances are they wouldn't have even drawn and out and Yata didn't do anything. The percentage of games Yata is winning you is less than the number of dead draws and brick hands he'll give you.
What Yata is is a card advantage engine. Hitting with him denies your opponent a card. Every time he hits they -1. If you can build around that incremental advantage, its insane.
