The British and Dutch exhausted eachother fighting over eachother's outposts during the Revolutionary Wars, leaving the way open for a powerful Chinese merchant house to seize Java and subvert political power in Malaya, and the native sultans to assume control locally elsewhere, meanwhile the Vietnamese drive to the south has been slower than historically due to an increased presence against the Thai in Laos, leaving the Mekong delta still Khmer.

The Koh Kongsi will get events to expand their influence across Indonesia, both militarily and economically while fighting the Portuguese, Dutch and Spanish over the Moluccas and Borneo and the French and British over Sumatra.

Setting up Japan, Osaka is a Portuguese colony, Edo is Dutch, everything east of Oda is Shinto and friendly with the Dutch while everything in the west is Catholic and friendly with the Portuguese. The Catholics have the initial advantage of extra reforms but the Portuguese and Dutch will pass along certain technologies as they research them to their sphere of influence and the Dutch obviously have better research than the Portuguese. Everyone gets a CB on everyone else to unify Japan and once they have it all they can reform as one of two Japanese tags, Christian or Shinto.

The gist of it would be that, as Nazi Germany, if you own the Sudetenland and Austria proper, you can use a decision to get a conquest cb on France for 100 infamy. If you succeed, you then get a second decision to release Vichy France out of the south (basically the old Occitia tag).

What's the best way to maximize money in Vic 2? I used to just maximize taxes and tariffs, but I think this just causes a huge economic downturn after a few years. I need to support an army and make enough to jump start industry. As Austria if that matters.

Ezo was slightly colonized, I should probably have them just have Hakodate, if anything though less central authority would probably mean more Japanese up there with people escaping the civil wars and the local lords doing whatever the fuck they want with no oversight.

As for the colonies, it's mainly to represent trading interests and to give them a base to get involved and help out their friends. Edo as mentioned was unimportant so it fits as a Dutch base, I picked Osaka since it's an important commercial centre and there'd be no one to really stop the Portuguese, but I could make it Nagasaki.

Good location, close to their allies, far from their rivals. There's really not many important cities in that part of Japan until the shogunate made Tokyo Tokyo though as far as I know, the commercial centres were all around Kyoto-Osaka. It's possible it could have grown into an important commercial centre out of the fishing village it was because of Dutch patronage and security too.

I'll leave it up to you guys though, which ports should I give the Dutch (in the northeast) and the Portuguese (in the southwest)?

I was doing this mod that made Greece easier, gave a bunch of bonus modifiers because irl Otto tried to impose rigid German ideals on the Greeks and built infrastructure and shit. But then after you get to secondary power the modifiers go away and you get an event which gives research points and prestige that says essentially "the founder of western civilization degenerated a bit, but we have caught up again, now to take the fight to the turk."
There was some drama about a revolution against the monarchy that I modded in too but I forgot what it was all about.
