From a technical standpoint, WoW.
Its Raids are pristine and awesome, the best PvE out there.
The problem is they killed literally everything else in WoW, there is nothing to do outside of Raids, so that one failed

GW2 did an awesome attempt on large scale PvP that is goat in theory, but suffers greatly for a meaningful reason to do it and server imbalance.

FFXIV has pretty boring Raids but a very good crafting system and offers enough things to do at max level.

One could talk about EvE online but its hard to describe where the "endgame" begins because the lines blur heavily in EvE.

WoTLK WoW basically was perfect, the reason it had almost 13 million active subscribers.

BDO has a lot to do, just not everything is combat focused like you're used to. I know you're used to leveling to max level then doing raids because you grew up with WoW, but BDO is not a game that does that.
BDO has a lot of content, all of it is accessible as soon as you hit Velia. Thinking of BDO as "endgame" focused would be dumb since the whole game is "endgame".

I'm currently level 22 and my main aim is to craft and make money in this game, where should I be investing my contribution points and my gold? I'm in no rush to get to the max level, I'm having fun crafting and trading.

I've currently got 48 CP, 19 invested in nodes and 22 invested in Velia housing.

Where should I be building my main housing area with workshops? Velia or Hedian. Currently got just over 3 mil gold from fishing and my main current aim is to get a wagon and fishing ship.

Look, if people go and buy an MMO, or develop oine in the first place, it means there are activities to do with other players.
Massively Multiplayer Online.
That doesnt mean everyone just ignores all other players. At this point, games like Destiny/The Division or even fucking Borderlands are more MMO than BDO. There need to be meaningful ways to team up, do stuff with other players. Why play an MMO if the part that defines the genre is outright not there?
This might work in Korea because they dont care about alot of things over there, but here in the West, especially europe and america, stuff like Dungeons/Raids or atleast battlegrounds, really anything to do with other players, is absolutely necessary to keep a game alive.
If you dont bring that, your game ends up flooded with romanians or other subhumans and implements a pay2win cash shop system to milk the last few dollars out of its remaining playerbase until servers get shut down.

In BDO, you have a choice to group, but you don't have to. In other games you HAVE TO group because the content FORCES YOU TO GROUP. That's the only difference. It seems that if people aren't foced to group they simply won't do it because the MMOs of the past 10 years have literally tought them that you group in dungeons and you quest solo and that's all there is.
I've grouped multiple times with friends to do things I could have done solo, I did it because it makes it more fun and enjoyable, not because the game forced me to do it by placing a really hard boss in my way.
Sandbox, you can chose to do something or not. It's not the game's fault that the western playerbase is so fucking antisocial that they won't group unless they really have to.
