That's not true though. I think that only crawler headshots were harder. In KF1 zeds heads just didn't move that much.

In KF2 even clots sometimes roll into your face and you can only get headshots on them during that by luck. Gorefasts going wild with their blades and sometimes they're even blocking bullets with it. Bloats and husks are just the same. Sirens feels a lot harder to headshot in KF2 for some reason.

If they're at the first encounter they're pretty stable to shot down from a mediocre range. Just a simple 9mm shot. Heck, if they aren't in a swarm, you can chop cheir heads with knife as they nibble on your ankles. However, if you shot them once they start to shake it to sides like mad.
Hardest to shot down is gores, especially when they're in your face.

Most of the Sharp rifles can be tamed by a simple flick of the wrist in KF1. Commando rifles are about effective small bursts at head unless you are opening fire at a large crowd or ZED time kicked in.

You are bad. Schneidzekk is widely used. Most people frowns upon M7A3 users because all they ever do was spamming that shit all night long. Reloads over and over again then after a while losing the track of healing the needy.
It's kinda infuriating to see that you're up to toes against a Scrake getting mauled by trash around, need help... But your medic is at the other end of the point shooting at Stalkers behind other people and getting his shots bodyblocked by other players.

M7 has 70 damage per shot 30 bullet mag, Schneid have 40 damage per shot but 50 bullet mag. The damage difference is small as 100 (5%), but larger magazine allows you to reload less often if you are any smart. Because both weapons can decapitate a trash with one shot, and leaves a Gorefast hanging and bleeding even after a headshot.
Just use Schneid in short bursts, if you go full auto then you're doing it wrong and distracting yourself by reloading it again and again. Best thing to do is getting a good sidearm to do your dirty job to evade reloading your medic guns or bridging your reloads.

I had to figure out the process on my own since before Tripwire released the dedicated tools. I can't load stuff into the market, but imo I get better results (like being able to paint sight pictures and other areas).
I just use umodel to get the .tgas from the game files, paint the .tgas, load them into the SDK, then pack them into a .upk. SDK spits it out into the unpublished folder, which gets migrated into the published folder.

Tanking is a concept that does not exist in KF1. The closer you can have is a medic trading his armor to prevent FP slaughter.

Too slow but heavy damage spike. It's a better idea to let others kite Fleshpounds with Fire Axe or Claymore or whatever they have, when you carry Scythe. Only melee weapon that enrages Fleshpound with a single altswing headchop, so you bound to do primary hits on him which is slower damage output when compared to other melees.
Good for buying it as secondary Zerk for heavy damage backstabs on enraging Fleshpounds. Other than that, it's pretty slow for kiting. When you have it, qualify yourself as the buttstabber of the team for everyone's benefit.
I assume it's still possible to do a speedkill on FP but it might require more timid blows to head of FP before you decide to rage it with alter swing headchops.

Their way of FP handling involves kiting it which results in luring him in the heart of the team then everything goes down the drain in a whirling fashion as pillowed specimen dives in with FP too.
Their intentions of tanking and taking aggro do NOT work or worth shit unless there's a Demolition who can finish the beast. When zerk intends to tank FP; Sharp will be kinda helpless, and Support can not do shit to nade stack unless a Firebug, another Supp or Mando cuts the chords of Siren and Husks following behind.

As for KF2 I didn't even play a little bit. That be bragging but I think I'm good at theorycrafting and I didn't like what I read about. Be it new game mechanics, be it the feedback from my friends, be it lacking speedkill combos, be it the dumbed down certain mechanics from previous title.
Last but not least; be it the company banging their effort on useless bullshit like visual effects and monetizing; be it inconsistent updates and delay.

Sidegrade to be able to parry large zeds if you're not a zerk.
The unsheath attack is also pretty handy if you're out of bullets and some nasty gorefast is charging you, you can just decap him and sheath it or slice a couple of more heads / parry to make yourself some room before you reload and continue your business.

Neptunia is a low quality game (even by RPG standards) that features a lot of reused assets, which explains why they can pump out so many. It doesn't need to sell very well for them to make a new one as a result. Plus the stories are on par with slice of life shows, which there is nothing wrong with, but I would prefer more urgency in my RPGs or at least cuter girls. The company, Compile Heart, is known for shitty games and reused assets in Japan.

The last one probably came out sooner than 5 months since there are a bunch of planned character specific games coming out. I am glad I only tried MK2 and V before writing off the series as shit. I have no idea why the fanbase is on par with MLP and Jojofags since they infest most generals I've lurked.

I would say KF2 is a better game overall despite the slow updates.

I'm thinking of different ideas while I'm busy and working on other things. When I get the chance to get back to map making I want to know what people really want from a map.

I feel like despite the initial cool factor of maps with good prop usage it tends to wear off. I think how well made the creepy maps were in KF1 didn't matter because the unsettling atmosphere drove people away from voting for them. At the end of the day a map is something you need to enjoy playing on, not an art installation. How good a person feels on that map plays into that in a big way.

What kept people coming back to West London and Biolabs in KF1? What do people enjoy about KF-Cube and KF-Defence_Thyself in KF2? All stuff I'm trying to get to the bottom of before starting a new map

It was open, atmospheric, and iconic to the game itself. Open maps don't really work for KF2 though since zeds are so reliant on teleporting and any kind of range trivializes the game for fast perks.

If you were to ask me, you should make a map that's "dark" but at no point should a flashlight be practically required just to see anything outdoors.
You also want multiple places where people have good line of sight, thus funneling zeds, but if they break through you're in a world of shit.
The hardest part would be designing locations where zeds don't come from everywhere. It's not fun to have cralwers coming from the side, behind you, from vents, from windows, and from your own asshole.
Players should be able to balance basically the whole game on being able to defend their camping spot but be properly fucked when overwhelmed, regardless of speed.

Take the Bioticslab (KF1) spawn for example. It's a T shape, zeds can come from 3 directions, but never directly behind you.

You can just borrow tons of assets from Volter Manor and Catacombs and you already have half the work done for you.
All you need next is a layout that isn't just 8 separate square rooms and you got yourself an interesting map.
Oh, and no fucking high ground vision advantage. Shit like KF-Cube lets you see practically everything and Catacombs has the infamous cheesy stair location.
If you make a second floor for any map it has to have seriously bad lines of sight.

Indoor or outdoor is fine by me, the main goal of this map would be to make a map that's both visually pleasing and fun to play on.

"Indoor" and "Outdoor" are just themes when you boil it down. They are just visual perspective and don't effect the layout in any real way. But if people prefer the idea of an indoor bunker I'd like to make something with some very well lit halls and sizeable rooms in a vertical sense. Something similar to how the clean vaults in fallout 4 looked.

I don't know how or why, but almost EVERY custom map I see has horrifyingly ugly floors. I am almost 100% certain this is because the creators don't give them new normal maps to make light reflect off of surfaces and stuff to make it actually look 3D.
Please, for future reference, add normal maps to all your floors. It makes a HUGE difference in how aesthetically pleasing your map is.

As a KF1 player (4k hrs anon), guess I can try to answer that.
We kept playing Westlondon between inhouses because, streets are so large that we can recover almost instantly with a few good aimed shots or nukes. Long ranged accuracy is rewarded as well as any planned reload due to large space. If you ask other people they'll tell you different things but I think that's the main idea behind Westlondon.
Also you'll notice how simple it is. Bunch of tubular path streets without hard turns; which makes it even easier to kite whether offperk or onperk'd teams. You can play with any perk and because of long distances and lots of obstacles a smart person still would prevail and clutch for team as a last stander.

When you look at Counter-Strike, you can wrap the idea of de_dust's popularity then compare it to kf-westlondon and I do believe you'll see similarities. The pathing in both maps are very comfortable, and convenient.

Well... I don't play bioticslab anymore. Because I played that map 'till I puke already and teams not keen about holding different spots. The most interesting thing you can do there is holding the spawn point yet again but with no doors welded. So, everyone can find something to shoot and tackle down when necessary.
As another anon said it already; no backspawns when you hold the crosspath and funnel at incoming mobs. But that's not fun or enjoyable in my book. When you try to leave spawn and push, then the backspawn gets to overwhelm and crush you instead. Or you simply ditch some poor fool like medic or bow sharp to stand at the crosspath while whole team pushes forward and mindlessly shoot everything.
I've seen terrible teams win biotics because they never stopped shooting, hold their ground and didn't push (so side doors not get aggro'd). That doesn't sound like a good map design to me.

Medics don't exactly need gear or "loadout" because they never M1 and still win with a good team. Most medics prefer to pair MP5M (fastest dart recharge rate as far as I know) and Schneidzekk (aka Schnitzel or Vektor) together.
Prioritize MP5M first for price and recharge rate. I always try to get these two first, and chain healing darts by swapping between'em

Taking the attention of rage charging Fleshpound and tanking it. Can be used to finish big targets.
>Crossbow
Can be used to kill Husks from distance to save your Supports from heat. Do NOT try on calmed FP.

To cut the chase; MK23 is good for picking off trash from afar in a hold point. LaR is for long range or kiting. Crossbow is very viable too, but so heavy that it prevents you from carrying 2 med rifles.

Flare Revolver is not entirely bad; as it can be really useful to keep a Siren tame by litting it on fire when kiting. However don't expect much when holding as it will interfere with Support's job and cause FP to flail if you lit it.
Also fire damage has a weird exploit on Fleshpound like canceling its rage damage threshold (eye contact timer rage still intact) once you evade the swing of a crisped FP.(flailing around and lost complete eye contact at least once). You can not pull this trick when holding a point.

When you are tanking a loosely enraged and charging FP; someone proper like Support or Commando must be able to sweep off Sirens behind the Fleshpound, so you don't die in a blink after getting pulled to FP with screams. Although, being risky but a Firebug is capable of doing the same thing once you hugged the Fleshpound and kept contact.
Remember, when tanking unleashing your whole medic rifle on FP at full-auto in a whim will cause you to reload sooner and lose aggro to other team members who are trying to clear trash around for you.
Use it in small bursts with small pauses to keep FP on you as long as possible, Spare some bullets for close up Gores. Keep that position if you aren't get screamed at face by the means of changing rifles (or even using Bile Launcher) until your Support or Demolition (If not ditched you yet) reloads and nukes the FP after Sirens are taken care of.

About ZED Mk2.0 and Bile; they're really good weapons for "helping" Demolition perk. Also stasis improves the effect of DoT and any other damage burst greatly.

You really should be taking the Wave Gun for Sui, Flamethrower is lame compared to the Wave Gun.
But, for your question, let's pretend your team has big guys covered, and you just want to have fun with the flamethrower.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no 100% Trash Killer and no 100% Big Guy Killer. Focus on your priority target category, but not exclusively. The Big Guy Killer who won't lift a finger to help a teammate threatened by trash in an emergency because WELL GEE BOHSS IT AIN'T MAH JOB HEEHEE is a fast way to get teams killed, and vice versa for Trash Killers and big guys.

4k hours anon here because bored. Some anon asked me about higher difficulties and I do believe my answer was lacking or superficial, can't remember.

To anons who play KF1 at hard or normal, and wanna jump at higher difficulties:
Big Fierce mechanics:

- Behaviour
Frustrates when out of combat with eye contact target, or enrages upon incurring enough damage. Will not go back to calm state unless hit the target or broke a welded door
- Resistances:
Fleshpounds are always weak against explosives because of their huge frame and metallic assemblies. At Suicidal and Hell on Earth they gain an extra resistance against xbow headshots of 65% so it's out of question to finish a Fleshpound with high player count vitality with offperk xbow.
FP's explosive weakness is around 25%, best result is given if you aim at head to mitigate smoke or aim at chest lights for like slightly more damage but smoke screen.
- Out of combat frustration:
Enrages on 10 (+1-5 randomization) seconds of sheer eye constact after spotting a player. After timer ends Fleshpound gets frustrated for not getting in close combat and it enrages. This mechanic can be tricked but can't be shut down.
This timer resets itself once all players hid from plain sight by crouching behind obstacles or walls or peek-a-boo from corners. Another way to keep him calm is letting him swing at you, it doesn't have to be a hit to reset timer. It's safer if you are a medic or zerker to get away from harm's way before he hits you.
- Damage Threshold Rage:
Second rage trigger is incurring 360 damage over 2 seconds. Which is easy to evade. Zerk generally abuses this mechanic as their melee headchops usually hit under that threshold (besides scythe altfire headchop). Any extra DoT damage without warning causes it to rage right away from a heavy melee whack from a Zerk.
However, this mechanic can be shut down with fire DoT and combining it with first mechanic:

FP takes double damage from pipes and hand grenades, like 100% weakness to them.
Also there's a third way to reset its rage timer, which is throwing a grenade at his behind and allowing him to evade that. Whilst evading a hand nade it will reset it's timer, but it's not even practical or funny because if he were to get caught in the blast even a tiny bit he'll enrage right away.

>Scrake:
- Behaviour
Walks around in a slow pace threatingly until provoked. Rages when lost 25% of maximum total health and never calms down. When calm, uses short dashes on players who tried to take his attention from far and dealt 10% of his health.
- Resistances
50% resistance to Crossbow headshots at Suicidal and Hell. 1.0x to everything else.
- Rush
When raged he'll rush to a target and use its chainsaw slap then mowdown it. Each back off from Scrake will cause him to engage you again with another hook slap. You can cancel its chainsaw hooks with a timed flinch. Do NOT try to back off from a raged Scrake as its chainsaw slap have more damage spike then its mow down treatment.
- Flinch and Stun
Can not be mini flinched (150-450 damage) from melee weapons more than once at Suicidal and Hell. Can be mini-flinched (LaR or M14 headshots) or heavy-flinched from ranged sources repeatedly (M32 blunt headshots from close range).
Stuns when incurred more than 666 damage from a "single" hit (shotgun pellets total damage do not count, M32 blobs contains impact and explosive force together). Once stunned by a high damage source like L.A.W, Pipebomb or Crossbow headshot; Scrake can not be flinched from anything.
You can nail a dart onto his path to laugh later, but once he enrages he'll run through a pipe field alive because he'll be way out of blast radius when pipe goes off.

Screams when took above a damage threshold or engage cut eye contact. Exterminates and nullifies L.A.W rockets, grenades and pipes. Throwing grenades at Sirens is a waste of time and health.
- Silencing
If you engaged her too close whatever the consequences are shoot at her just once, when she nod her head down. Alternatively low tick damage DoT like fire or multiple low damage hits like pierced shotgun pellets will keep her voice down.
A good Commando can spray bullets at her with controlled bursts. Onperk M4 or Bullpup will keep her down for long, Onperk FAL and SCAR are capable of decapitating her after you silence her just once.

Best idea for this, especially since people can do stupid shit like parry with the knife. Then they can do thijngs like how much stamina parrying with certain weapons uses. Like, I'd imagine the Eviscerator taking a lot of stamina to parry with, and then the longsword and katana being able to parry a lot of hits. The knife just uses up all stamina after one parry or maybe two.

But instead of being called "stamina," it could just be called "strength" or "parry strength." The parry bar could appear when holding it down and could show up ins split up ticks so that you can easily tell how many hits your weapon can tank up. It would be much better than stupid fucking unparriable attacks and would make parrying a bit more of a team effort if you don't have a Berserker.

Someone should suggest this to a Tripwire dev. I don't know any personally.
