Ideally, if it's an IS 'Mech it's a Raven, given the quirks it gets.

Aside from that, Enhanced NARC module. No exceptions. Being fast enough to hit and run should be a given, but- don't slap one on a 'Mech that can't spit a pod out and get away. People learn fast not to let one out of sight if they can kill the guy causing missiles to dump on them.

Clan NARC is superior in every aspect, although again use the module- and you can actually fit one on some mediums without losing too much firepower thanks to the lower weight requirements.

It seems like Ebon would be better for hillpoking but the trial timber doesn't have anything in its high mounts so I don't really have any way to compare them.

Both have over the cockpit laser mount, with Timber having 3 slots to the Ebins 2. Ebin also has a over the cockpit ballistic slot.
In theory, Ebin is better for the gauss + 2xlpl1mlas build, but Timber also has Jump Jets, which are crucial for hillhump maps like Canyon.

Why don't we add partial wings, laser heatsinks, corrosive heatsinks, and XL gyros while we're at it? Actually, all that'd be cool to have, but PGI's mechlab seems as hardcoded as hawken's secondary weapon system, so the odds of them changing shit, or adding anything new, are less than zero.

Laser heatsinks won't be hard to add. They would be restricted to a single mech (Night Gyr) so they can emulate the special ability of laser sinks through quirks while the sinks themselves are just renamed doubles. The Hellslinger already has the quirk that reduces the effects of environmental heat; the Night Gyr only needs a 100% version of that.

Actually they don't even need to rename it. I don't think most would mind if they were still listed as doubles in the mechlab. The most difficult part would be to create the art and unique graphical assets which will be used solely for one mech.

It is extremely difficult to kill anything except slow lights and mediums in a short period of time. You would have to have a ridiculous amount of large lasers in order to have a one-shot alpha, and that's only going to work on small mechs with low HP.

I flipped the lasers because it would mean that losing either shoulder still means you're still most of your mech in terms of sustained damage.

In essence, all this does is let your streakcrow pick off slightly bigger prey by actually going after open components. They pretty much play identically.

Also, as for the half ton ammo, I'd prefer the leg armor over the extra half-ton. 4.5 tons is already enough, and 60 points isn't all that much if someone's trying to leg you, especially with slow chicken-leg hitboxes.

Two completely different playstyles, little guy. Ravens are generally long range poke builds (unless you buy a Huginn but don't buy a Huginn as your first light) and Jenners are closer range flankers with the Oxide being a SRM striker. If you think you want an Oxide just buy a Jenner IIC and enjoy it instead, Oxide has better quirks but it's real money and has >IS XL

Unless you already have the XL you need for a Jenner or Raven, the purchase price you're looking at for an IS light needs to be DOUBLED. Plus you'll need double heatsinks (1.5mil), Endosteel and Ferro Fibro which will run you another half a mil or so for a light mech.
So add about six million to the price of your IS light, whereas the Cheetah might need half a million in omnipods and maybe a quarter for ER SML/SPLs and a few truedubs. The pricetag for an ACH is basically the full pricetag of the mech compared to IS where you're paying for hidden costs.

I suppose they're still the cheapest mech class you can buy since most mediums will want an XL which is where most of the light mech cost is coming from. Heavies are a mixed bag- XL heavies will run you about as much as a STD Assault, but a STD Heavy is still probably more than an XL Light.
Don't buy an XL Assault until you're really good at the game.
Inner Sphere mechs are really an investment issue. Once you own an XL295/XL300/all the good sizes of XL engines, your investment becomes the price of the chassis, 1.5 mil for doubles, and usually whatever the price of Endo-steel is (So about Chassis+2 mil)
Arctic Cheetah is about what you should expect to pay for a light all things said and done, even if you buy an IS (unless you already have the XL you need from a medium mech you own)
