That's not true, though. In P4, the majority of the character development was in the character's dungeon and the days talking to them after their rescue. The S links afterwards were a follow-up on that specific issue, going into more detail.

In P3, the characters were often given a few days to go over an issue in a cut-scene and then faded into the background. I mean, you can't tell me Fuuka's development was just so much more complex because you had to watch those three whole days of her with Natsuki.

I meant forced as in unnatural. It's a succession of the character conveniently spilling the beans to the protagonist, who can only say one or two lines you have to be careful with because otherwise you don't rank up.

This is not like it worked in P4. People talk about flanderizing the characters in spin offs, but that's how it felt in the game without their S.Links. And then S.Links were a monologue with some occasional "wow Yu you are great!" Not like P3's were any better, but at least the important stuff about the characters was properly developed in the story.

The concept is great. And I had fun with them. But they are a bad way to flesh party members and not as necessary as people tend to claim. For example saying MC wasn't friends with the male members of the team just because he didn't have ten ranks of them ranting about their dramas.

No. But it was better paced. In P4 they never ever talked about their development again because that was exclusive to their S.Link. And it's not like P4 characters didn't fade to the background either. That's not an issue of character arcs vs. S.Links, it's an issue of too many party members.

That's fair, but unfortunately I also think it's a necessary evil when dealing with video game relationships. Though I've also complained lately about the "you must pick the right option to maximize points" stuff. That is one area that could use improvement. But the only real way I think to completely improve the relationship aspect and make things better in a purely story-telling aspect is to essentially remove player control, and that can kind of miss the point of the series.

Is that even a question, Yukari's development is entirely integrated and paced throughout the story as they discover more about the backstory of the shadows and her dad, same with Mitsuru, Junpei develops as the story progresses with Chidori and learning from his experiences, same with the rest of the characters. The p4 characters have their brief moment in the dungeon and then the rests in s-links

Yes? I thought this was of general consensus. P3 had it's problems too, but the characters were developed with time and pacing. You could see Akihiko deal with Shinji for months until you get Shinji and he dies. And later he keeps talking about the issue as he deals with it.
In comparison, Yosuke loses a girl you literally see only once and he mentions her only once, because dealing with her loss is relegated to his S.Link, so nothing can see about the issue during the rest of the year because they can't tell in which point of his S.Link the player is.

I tend to get called a P4fag around here, but I'll have to side with P3 here, the character arcs are much better done if they're part of the story, like in P3, at least for the party members.

In fact, the best characterization on P4 is on fucking Teddie, because his social link is obligatory, basically. I'd say Kanji and Naoto got an interesting enough character arc with enough closure.

My real problem with characters like Mitsuru and Akihiko is largely that I feel like they have their big scene, their moment, and then for the rest of the game they're either back-up in Tartarus, or sitting in the back at the dorm. That's about it. You don't even particularly get many chances to talk to them or interact other than battle or the dorm. I want to be able to do more with them.

I am currently in the middle of a vanilla persona 4 Izanagi only run on hard mode. His moves are as follows:

He is level 20 currently, and Yu is 28. Am I prepared for Rise's dungeon or should I grind more? I am currently save scumming on my emulator for magician arcana chances so I should have mazio, tempest slash, matarukaja marakunda, and deathbound by the end of it.

As a side note, I am planning on doing an Angel only run next so what would be some good personas to use for downfusing if I want to have bash for god's hand, repel dark, and mahamaon/hama boost? What would be a good way to get another good skill on there to replace regenerate? Should I get a fusion forecast skill change and hope for the best?

Is it just me, or is Eternal Punishment a bit dull? I liked the first game enough to go through both routes back to back (didn't really like the Snow Queen route though), and I liked Innocent Sin. So far though I'm having trouble getting into EP, it's just not drawing me like the first two games did. Not very far yet though, just fixing to go into the GOLD Fitness Club.

How long does Persona 4 last? It feels like I've been playing it forever and I only just got past Rise's dungeon so I still have like 8 more months left

Rise's dungeon victory is kinda 40-45%. Rise's dungeon is the last of the dungeons where you just save a person every month. It immediately gets more interesting once you save her.

the last playable day is December 23rd and a few weeks are skipped in the summer and during exams. golden adds a little bit. If this game is paced to slow for you the rest would be goddamn torturous.

Surprisingly P3 might be more for you.

P3 has a giant super dungeon with about 300 procedurally generated floors. You can go to this dungeon every night with practically no consequence to your over-world interactions. And since almost none of the S-links are important characters or party members you can feel better about skipping through them just for their fuse bonus or just not doing them at all.

If you want, every time you go to the mega dungeon you can go all the way from floor one to the top floor you have unlocked. The combat is more punishing since if your weakness is hit you always miss a turn, and because you have little to no control over your party members actions. It's far more combat oriented than P4. it even has a mega dungeon that lets you grind to 99, and your health and SP increase ridiculously from like 400 up to 999 when you get to lvl 99.

That is all true, though if he's looking for a challenge, he still probably won't find it. This is the wrong series for that. And he'll still have to go through the very long story.

The SEES characters' redesigns are over the top and costume-y, which I always figured it was because they were for a fighting game, so they wanted to make them look like fighting game characters. So if they do bring back anybody from the IT for some sort of P5 Arena type of game, they'll probably similar to that. If it's something else, then they may be more normal looking.
