No, JW specifically put in code that restricts Lil Hunter to spawn only Grunts in his Loop 0 fight. The caveat is that his code is trite and doesn't even work.
IDPD portals don't determine their contents until the animation is ended, so it's very possible for Lil Hunter to die during that animation and the IDPD roll isn't made until Lil Hunter is technically already dead.
However, there seems to be another quirk that lets him spawn in Inspectors and Shielders while he's still alive. I can only fathom that this is because the Grunt-restriction only checks whether Lil Hunter is grounded when the animation is ended and not whether Lil Hunter is alive...or just determine the IDPD portal contents when they are first created like any competent programmer would do.

What's even more insulting is that the game does the elite roll when the portal is first created so that the correct siren plays and the animation takes the right amount of time. JW is such a shitter I swear.

Apart from gitting gud, what can i do to improve and get past lil hunter for once? What are the recommended mutations and weapons? And what characters give you a higher chance of winning?

With long arms and laser brain it deals 44 damage each swing and has a ridiculous range.

Y.V is baby mode if you really want to cheese it, I reccommend doing it with other characters, though

Weapons work best when they compliment one another. A fast-firing suppression weapon works well with a slow-firing damage monster, at least until you get good enough to make any weapon combo work in your favor.

Mutations are dependent on how you're doing and what sort of build you're going for. Mostly comes down to preference, but things such as Bloodlust, Trigger Fingers, and Strong Spirit tend to be unanimously more useful overall.

Strategy wise, just learn to recognize potential safety bubbles. Find a space that you can securely clear out and clear it out fast, from there you have a lull in action to move onto the next group of enemies that pick a fight with you. For Lil Hunter specifically, just don't give him line of sight and continue clearing space for yourself until you have a closed off arena to fight him in that has cover (or until everything's dead, that works too). He cannot shoot immediately after he lands and while he's calling in IDPD, use that as an opportunity to lay on some damage. He tends to die quickly if you overwhelm him, if you want to go for raw damage. Also a melee weapon turns his fight into a joke since he has zero attacks that can hit past a melee arc.

People talk about bad spawns with the guy, but the only time such a thing is possible is if you spawn on a completely frozen floor with no extra feet. There are two ways to do this battle, both of them equally valid.

The proper way is to remove the element of chaos that the battle relies so heavily on by clearing out as many enemies as possible to create a safe area to battle him. That's sometimes easier said than done, but it's doable with the level generation more often than not. With a safe space to battle him, the fight becomes trivial.

He'll only shoot his Bouncers when at close range, and the Eraser when at long. Use that to your advantage, whichever you feel is more manageable for you. When he calls in IDPD, he's completely defenseless. You can use that window of opportunity to take him out, or swat down the IDPD that spawn.

He explodes on death, before the actual explosion. Look out for that.


The alternative method is to be a luck-of-the-draw cumslut and hope to get a weapon that blows him out in one or two shots. He has less HP than common enemies two levels ahead, he's kind of a shit boss.

yv and crystal are the easiest characters in the game, i'd play those, but don't get too reliant on their abilities

plant is pretty good too but you gotta get used to him first, which shouldn't take long

mutation wise i would recommend rhino skin/strong spirit for a newcomer and hammerhead can help you out of a tricky situation if you can't dodge that well (you'll need to work on that). second stomach is great and so is trigger fingers

bolt weapons are god tier and so are the laser melee weapons

Boiling Veins is good for Lil' Hunter because it means you don't have to worry about him landing or exploding near you
In general, Strong Spirit, Rabbit Paw, Second Stomach and Bloodlust are mutations that will keep you alive and help minimize the effects of any mistakes as you learn enemy patterns and whatnot

Little hunter sucks. He's a boss largely based more on setup and being generally ready for his presence than actually fighting him. Either you kill him fast, or you die even faster.

You usually want these things ready to kill Little Hunter before he kills you:

>A safe place to fight him
Try and get a slightly out of the way, enclosed but with cover, area and clear the enemies out of it. Outside intereference is horrible for the Hunter fight.

>A way to burst him down
Little Hunter only has barely more health than Big Bandit. If you get a shot on him with a high damage weapon, he'll die almost instantly.

Seriously. They help.

Melee fucks Little Hunter up big time. Shovels can reflect all of his bullets back at him, and he's literally powerless against jackhammers.

Watch the ground while Lil Hunt flies off screen. You can see a shadow where he'll land. Try to keep moving so you don't get hit when he falls.

You can get a loading hint 'The IDPD is looking for you' on the first level which leads me to beleive they came to kill the mutants when the detected the mutant went through the first portal into the desert.
They portal into the campsite because that were where you were last seen and the portal was opened and they discover an encampment which they clean up, they keep chasing you throughout the run all the while getting closer and closer.
The other mutants were dead as soon as you left for the deserts you only find out about your friends deaths once you loop.

If they attempted to prematurely stop all threats to the IDPD Universe, they'd be fighting a losing battle. It's the entire multiverse vs one (or a handful of isolated) IDPD universes.

And so what if some mutie decides to sit on The Throne? If it doesn't kill them, they stay in their containment universe and don't ever bother the IDPD. It's a win/win for them.

Sledgehammer and Jackhammer are the only good melee weapons worth using past 3-3. Energy Sword, Energy Hammer, Ultra Shovel, and Lightning Hammer do not count, because they're unanimously great.
I hate how the Wrench (including the Golden one) and the Shovel become utterly irrelevant once you hit Crystal Caves, because they never oneshot any of the enemies, and before you can swing a second or a third time, the moment they come out of the hitstun, they kill you instantly.

I generally went with the ones that would be more fun to draw but tried mixing things up for some charas where I was indecissive (Robot, Horror and Chicken have slight hints of both their Ultras). Rebel has Riot while Rogue has SPS. Eyes is actually supposed to have Projectile Style, probably gonna make that more clear in the full piece. Steroids was uninteresting.

Does extra feet do anything with Crystal's ultra or Fish's butt?

Decided to finish this guy's Active ability on a whim. In short, he just takes a huge bite outta motherfuckers.

When used on a corpse, it gibs them with a chance to spawn a Greater Giblet. If you use your ability on the Greater Giblet, it returns a few points of health. It's a more abstract kind of bloodlust, combined with Robot's active.

Not the current version. If you decompile either Wasteland Kings or Update 19, you can pretty much do whatever you want.

There's a point where I have to draw the line and say that you should just start your own project if you want to mod Wasteland Kings, though. Source code was a mess, I've basically re-written the entire thing at this point, which is why my progress has been so slow.

so your problem is enemies are too unpredictable? how the fuck is that a bad thing? if every enemy did the same thing, every snowbot rushed you as soon as they saw you, every bandit shot as soon as they saw you, it would be far too easy to manipulate enemies into doing what you want and easily steamrolling the game every time. That's why games like dark souls have such shit replay value, and what gives games like this one such good replay value. in dark souls you know exactly what every enemy is going to do so you can just revert to a flowchart. in nuke you never really know what's waiting for you on the next level, especially so on loops.

Random is good, but fully random mutations are not since they shape how you're playing so much. Should be at least pseudo random, where if a mutation shows up it has even lower chances of showing up again.

I mean, when you get down to it, most of these character backstories are really not that great.

Rogue and Rebel are some of the only interesting ones I've found because they deal with characters who seemed to lead a standard post-apocalypse life among their peers until something had them go against it.
