Why did you let it die Edition

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based strategy game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a strategy game.

First for me
>>
Okay, people, the last thread was terrible. Let's discuss the game and not Rejakor's cuck fetish this time.
>>
>>134950797
Jewish bird jewing first post.
>>
What's this about a cuck fetish?
>>
Gythia, you can have the province you asked for in the message that I took this turn, but I'd like to have the forest both our expansion parties are next to.
>>
>>134951030
I don't mind.
>>
>>134949323
Who?
>>
Okay, so I'm asking the question again : if you have a lot of gems and no wizard able to use them, what's the best option?
[] Empower a mage.
[] Trade them.
[] Transmute them.
[] I love to suck cocks and I'll answer "it depends".
>>
>>134950996
Please, let's not start this again.

Some guy said that Rejakor's posts are like that article http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2010/07/29/cuckolding-the-sex-fetish-for-intellectuals.html and he suddenly became very defensive about it.
>>
>>134951168
It's depends.
Only if they're qt feminine ones
>>
>>134951168

Break into the path with something else than empowering. Trading is also a good option if you need some other gems right now. Empowering is expensive as fuck.
>>
>>134951168
Alchemy should always be your last option, especially if you're not going for pearls.

Trading them could be the best choice if you're not empowering an already powerful player. For some nations breaking in other paths can be crucial. Ever saw blood Sceleria or MA Mictlan? Believe me, it's not pretty. Otherwise, it's as close to 1:1 barter as you can get.

Empowering is HUGE if you have the needed crosspaths. Let's say I have a D9 pretender. With just 50 air gems he can suddenly cast Foul Air, Wind of Death, and Wailing Winds. With 80 gems he can also cast cloud trapeze and craft flying boots. If you have huge path numbers on something (especially an immortal chassis), and there's a good spell you can cast, go ahead. N9 can suddenly cast Foul Vapors with W1. A lich can suddenly spam banefire with F1, etc.

Sometimes you just want those paths though, and it can be easily accomplished for some particular ones (W1 lets you craft bracelets, W2 + bracelets = robe of the sea or sea king's court for free W3 out of the box; D2 can craft skullstaves for D3, and then summon mound fiends etc.). Air is difficult to boost though (A4 for helmet), so most of the time it's not worth it, but again it depends.

I also love to suck cocks and answering "it depends, because you can have different opportunities in different games. You can find lizard shamans with S1N1 and suddenly you got astral and nature for some gems, and other times you'll get some good mages from the thrones.
>>
>>134951796
>A lich can suddenly spam banefire with F1
AND craft fire boosters too. So for F1 you automatically get access to F2, which in turn allows you to cast Phoenix Power and Pyre, and then with a spare crystal shield or elemental staff you can go all the way up.

Hey, if a nation casts a global and i want to cast the same global, does my global try to dispel his or nothing happens and my global goes as planed?
global
>>
>>134955770
Your global tries to overpower the existing global. If you spend more gems than the other guy it goes through and overwrites the original, if you don't then you just lose your gems and get nothing.
>>
>>134955886
dont forget that caster level also matters when trying to overwrite
>>
>>134955770
When you cast a global one of three things happens:
First, if there is the same global up, based on which was cast by a higher mage/with more gems it is either overwritten or remaind=s and blocks the new one (note this even happens if there are empty slots.
If there are empty slots, it fills the next available.
If all slots are full, it tests against a random one. Note dispell targets a slot, it can happen that your global overpowers a global in a slot that was targeted with a dispell, to then be dispelled itself dpending on the order of casting in a turn (which is random).

>>134955886
Gems over base cost, and for every level above what's needed in the base path it counts as 5 extra gems.

>>
>>134964664
I'm avoiding fights right now, as bats' Monster of IllFraud is scary. I killed some of his ozelotls that he sent in my direction, and chaff don't bother me that much. I guess if I can beat vampire lords and the demon lord I can survive. I have a shitton of mages, griffins, and good cav. Maybe I will pull through in the end, but my position is not great. I was dealt bad cards from the very start, as Xib had the easiest expansion ever on his plane of empty provinces, but I managed to drive him back from my ugly brown wastelands to his plane with griffins and firestorms. Now that midgame is over, his advantage has finally kicked in, and I stand no chance against him 1v1.
>>
>>134965114
Well on Aqua he hasn't got demons, just infinitefrogs, so it's easier
>>
>>134965114
Fortunately it isn't a 1v1. R'yleh is fighting him back in the Plane of Water, and C'tis was seiging him in the Plane of Fire.

And now C'tis has one hell of a reason to go for a 100% kill on bats.
>>
>>134966143
I also made 20 shambler skin coats for C'tis before AC kicked in, so he can go north round Aqua into the plane of blood.

>>
>>134966776
That's not entirely true. They have issues in using a gem to cast spells one level higher than what they reach (including the boost from the communion).

In >>134966684, what is happening is that the opposition is not substantial enough to trigger gem use.
>>
>>134967502
Forgot a piece of my post. They don't have issues in using gems if, including the boost from the communion, they reach the path level of the spell they want to cast.

they can make 2 gem lanterns, super charging MABirds already good research and they can summon Yata on an FD random with a D empower, which is the part that really bothers me since the Seraphs were all about not mixing Death and Fire, so why would they let their head architects do so? it also completely frees up your pretender however, so I suppose that's a plus.

It's not like there's not enough English folktales to use. What about a king of the cats? Could do like Magus Bride and fuse it with Ulthuar, but it would be cool to be able to summon a duke fo cats which auto-summons cats (size one, single attack that does damage like R'lyeh's little spawn) and a king of cats that auto-spawns dukes.
Or if that's more of a LA thing, why not a Jack? The English takes are full of young men by that name killing giants through cleverness. It would be foreign recruit, stealthy and, I dunno, maybe an assassin? Thieves and tricksters don't fit Dominions too well.

Also, I'm pretty sure I've seen A among what they can gain.

Also, i can't make Hide Heart work. Casting the spell makes the stealthy heart appear (shrimp sprite made me lol), but if the related Kizoku dies( by the way, why the stealth?), he doesn't come back anywhere. I've tried both in enemy and friendly dominion.

One thing I've been thinking of recently is how to thug my monstrous pretenders. Earth Snake probably has it the easiest with heavy E buffs and everything, but what about your Dragons and so forth? Anybody without serious magic capability or non-national paths that you don't really have research for yet but you need to use your pretender to turn the tide of an early war. They don't really have slots for shields and armor, so I guess just figure out whatever defensive trinkets you can forge that might make a difference? They still seem pretty squishy, though.
>>
>>134983367
Give them a hat and whatever the best defensive misc items you can. Whatever the best is depends on what you can forge and what you're fighting. Regen rings are worth trading for if you can, reinvig items are always a good choice otherwise resists, mr or bracers of protection.
>>
>>134983367
If you have rings of regen most awake pretenders should be safe taking on PD. You just have to keep them away from any serious armies or mages.
>>
>>134981214
It shouldn't be possible, but i've heard tales of such things happening back in Dom 3. Same with pretenders. Most likely a bug or a result of DRN being insane.

IT DEPENDS.

If you can't trade, and you can't summon a mage who can use them, I empower. But like, grudgingly. And only on someone with the crosspaths to use'em or the ability to forge stuff I need with them. Just.. turning a buttload of gems into pearls is not a bad idea if you need pearls. If you really need some gemtype, burning gems by going unneeded gems > pearls > needed gemtype is even a thing.
>>
>>134951796

>MA Mictlan empowering instead of summoning tlahuelpuchi
>blood sceleria meaning what, what exactly is sceleria doing with minor empowered blood magic

Nothing you're saying makes much sense. Why would you waste 50 gems so a lich can cast banefire instead of shadowblast, horde of skeletons, darkness, rigor mortis, or other good death spells. You've correctly identified that crafting fire boosters is good, but then go off on a wild tangent about phoenix pyre or something. Empowering anyone with death twice in fire and then making a fire skull lets you summon Flame Spirits, who with their own fire skulls are natively f4 and can go up to f5 and cast Fire Storm. Alternatively, an empowered f1 with a hammer can just sit there making lightless lanterns forever. Or you can make a f3 to make fire spirits to increase lantern production, it all depends on income. Empowering individual mages to cast individual spells is a failure of scale. Getting more mage of that path / getting items that are useful from that path (flying boots, water breathing items, lightless lanterns, vine shields, regen bracelets) > battlefield wide enchantments (due to the chance of losing the mage and therefore your gem investment), and anything else is a waste of time.

Man seems like it's more southern Britain than western.
>>
>>134987765
Man
Man is one of the first nations conceived in the Dominions universe. The nation is a conglomerate of medieval English and Arthurian concepts spiced with some fantasy elements from Ars Magica and the books of Robert Jordan. The Irish/Northumbrian monastic tradition, Anglo-Saxon society, and Welsh longbowmen are all inspirational sources. Later on, the nation turns towards scholarship paired with dark tidings. The mood in the movie Sleepy Hollow is a nice comparison.
In Dominions 4 steps has been taken to accentuate the influence of invading barbarians reminiscent of the Angles and Saxons. It is not difficult to see an early Ulm or a similar nation in the Logrian backstory.

I'm getting ready for a disciples game, but I'm not sure what I should be focusing on for my disciple. I know our god will be imprisoned, so my instinct is that a monster will awaken way too late to matter and I should go with a rainbow mage. But I've never been a disciple before so I'm not sure if that's accurate.

I'm playing EA Ermor, the other team members are MA Ulm and LA Marignon. Marignon has the pretender, and is going F4S9 for angels.
>>
>>135036284

Tell Marignon to get their head out of their arse; you don't pick a pretender based on a Conj9 spell, and if they want lesser angels they can go Blood and they can shut up and like it.

If that's not an option, know that you will be the sole provider of death for your nation, and that none of you have any nature at all. That's a goddamned travesty, so whatever you do, take that on your pretender and have them search all forests until you have a reasonable amount of magic diversity on your team.
>>
>>135034426
>main this nation.
Play every nation. One doesn't "main" in Dominions.
>>
>>135037454

True, but that being said, it's quite reasonable for a new-ish player - or anyone, really - to pick a few nations to try to get a handle on before trying everything else. 'Focus' in this context does mean 'be that nation in maybe two games at most', though.

With all blood capable nations, I'm actually very conflicted on research at the start.

Should I rush the dowsing rods out of the gate while recruiting a mage every month?

Vampires are also cool and not Iron Blizzard. If I were concerned with just tourney shitting, I'd go iron blizzard asap and ignore blood for a while.

Some of you might remember I posted a while back regarding a total conversion I'm working on. I've got about 10 nations planned so far, occupying the eastern continent, as well as one underwater nation.
I need some for the western continent though, and I'm just about fresh out of ideas. I'd rather not spoil the nations so far, until I have more to show, since spriting 20-something units per nation is taking years. As for the map, that's taking a hot minute to separate into provinces, as well, since it's going to be glory-of-the-gods-sized.

Anyway, I'd like to hear your ideas for custom nations.

>>135044531
Not sure if that's possible with the Dom4 code, but I'll give it a shot. I like the idea.
>>
>>135044620
Two things -
Give dwarf queens Mallqui-tier costs to make the dwarves not just "indies and mercenaries"
A higher than ordinary E income from their cap plus making the basic rituals for their warriors earth based fits nicely with their theme. The all-nations earth stuff already fits great, since it's stuff like clockwork and DWARVEN hammers and boots. Then stuff like water/fire/air can be more specialty things that provide additional elemental damage and so on
>>
>>135044531
>>135044867
Can you elaborate a bit more on what you mean by CoE-style? I haven't played CoE yet.
>>
>>135044353
Human(ish) descendants of the frost giants.

Heavy focus on water magic and blood, national units have cold auras and better than human stats but cost similarly to abysians. Minor death/nature, nothing higher than 1 point including randoms.

Foreign recruit units are entirely human, and foreign recruit mages have fire+water magic.
>>
>>135045087
In CoE, the dwarves have these queens, which are immobile powerful mages that produce workers automatically. They get more queens by having special advisors that can carry eggs and use them to found new colonies on mines that do not yet have a queen. Instead of recruiting their national troops, they upgrade their workers. Their mages (runesmiths) can upgrade them further by enchanting their weapons and armor to get elemental attributes.
>>
>>135045373
>>135045558
So basically a freespawn nation that upgrades its freespawn to be not-useless?
>>
>>135045669
The frost giant duder was proposing a new race and not talking about dwarves.

But yes, sorta. They'd be a freespawn race that relies on immobile mages producing their freespawn rather than just automatically summoning it, so more like EA R'lyeh if they could ugprade their polypal spawn but only had one mother per fort.
>>
>>135045740
>the frost giant duder was proposing a new race
I really should read postnumbers more. Still, a good idea.
>>135045740
I like the idea anyway. Were you thinking they'd rely entirely on entirely freespawn, or would there be some national units in there as well?
>>
>>135046026
Their national units are the workers and upgrades to the workers. It's standard dwarf fare in CoE - arbalests, armored axe dudes, etc. The gimmick is just that you get them by upgrading them rather than recruiting them.

The commanders in the Dominions port would probably just be recruitables

>>135044353
>>135044620
And here's some sprites I've done for two different nations. Still a work-in-progress.

>>135046176
So basically, queens are high-level immobile mages that generate freespawn, which can be upgraded into their national units. Dom4 coding would make it difficult to implement, so they could just work as chaff in a worst-case scenario.

A different race I coded involves a type of parasite with a lifecycle inside its host, so it has #xpshape and gains xp every turn, until it bursts from its host and becomes its own unit. Something like this may work, but it doesn't really fit the theme that you're upgrading them, so the national spells might be the only way to go, and I haven't touched spellmaking yet.

>>
>>135034170

You just overwrite the folder with the new folder. That's all i've done and no problems so far, pretty sure no sprites are removed between versions, and the game doesn't care if extra sprites are in the folder, just so long as the ones the .dm refers to are there.

>>135052497
>EA/LA Xibalba
EA has far better death and blood access, plus can generate beast bats much more easily. They have easy access to Ozelotl as well, especially Rain of Jaguars (F2B6 can be reached with a fire random onaqui and nationally-available boosters).

LA gets earth, water, and nature magic to give them more diversity (but loses the small amount of Fire EA Xibalba has), has better recruitable sacreds, and gets amphibian troops. LA is also heavier on population, which somewhat makes up for their blood hunters not being as good as EA. Unfortunately, while LA has the ozelotl spells on their national list, they have a much harder time actually summoning them. Your best option is a F-random onaqui and Rain of Jaguars, which means you start getting ozelotl at research level 8 instead of level 4.

>>135052646
Into the fort.
>>
>>135053360
Actually, slight correction.

EA Xibalba does get earth, via their cap-only mage which isn't the onaqui.

LA Xibalba still gets better earth magic, as they can get rec-anywhere E2 and cap-only E3.

You can't kill the undead. Only banish/disperse them. They re-coalesce later depending upon their binding to the physical realm.

Dispossessed spirits are essentially fart clouds that spring into existence, get slashed, disperse, and reform next month.

All the greater shades follow a similar pattern.
>>
>>135068356
Maybe in CoE4 it's true, but in Dominions shades aren't immortal, so they won't revive.

Is there any way to heal feeblemindness?
>>
>>135069513
Gift of Health is the only way AFAIK.
>>
>>135069096
Only powerful undeads do. Wraith Lords or someone of that kind. Shades just an abominations. They can somehow shift themselves in the world of living via someone's magic, but being destroyed there (by lightinings or another evos) they'll perish. Only living person may become shade when his soul traveling through the Underworld. And Dispossesed Spirits are souls which even haven't reach Underworld yet and got brough back.
That is lore-wise, I guess.

There's some sort of difficulty mechanic for afflictions, you can heal feebleminded with normal healing but it's not the easiest thing to do, a healer could take a bunch of turns to do it.

A single can take 5-6 turns to heal feebleminded.
GOH does it faster as far as I've noticed, but there are afflicitons that even GOH has troubles dealing with like never healing wound and possibly crippled

You can give em to the assasins with poor morale, so they can rout their victims without fail.
So if you have an assasin give him scull amulet and slave collar. He'll clear most of the low-level mages.
>>
>>135072675
Of course. It can lose to magic duel too.

>>
>>135075493
Up the count to 500 bigger or 500 smaller
>>
>>135075112
Their targeting is weird in that they are functionally set to (Fire) when they appear, which makes them attack a random unit in range. They will avoid targeting fatigue neutral units as well. Like other archers, they will continue firing at their targeted squad until all members are dead, but unlike other archers they don't deal damage so they will keep the same squad asleep rather than spread the fatigue out like you'd want.

If you're up against a relatively small number of elites, like elves or giants, they're amazing. If you're up against blocks of normal troops, they will just scatter some shots and put some chaff to sleep. They become good when they get massed if you can summon them when the things that you want to put to sleep are in arrow range of the summoner, in that they essentially become a stellar cascade setup, but you'll need to spend a lot of nature gems to get that.

Are you going to continue further to the west? I'm going to capture the farm to the west from the Desert of the cliff dwellers and the one that is next to that one, but I'm not interested in going to the south for now.
>>
>>135076936
If this were EA, I'd say that yes, absolutely it would be OP because sprites just crap all over elite sacreds, but that's way less common in MA. In MA it probably wouldn't be a big deal.

Something else that might be cool is melee fae that have a fatigue attack or giving Eriu/Man other faeries like ones with poison+fatigue arrows, longer range bows, or even something like javelins so that they have fewer shots before they become basically insects from the Swarm spells. The concern would be balancing them so that they are used for their faerie-ness instead of just used as a tarpit.

It's the sacred aspect that's the big deal. Since Ermor trashes its scales, it can afford to take a bless for them that would make any sacred useful, so the fact that they are already tough and have a cold aura makes them amazing. Without a big bless they're still okay, but not super special

They're good for clearing out chaff I guess
>>
>>135079573

>>
>>135079269
Dusk Elders are pretty much your best use of D gems, unless you're going hardcore Lictor factory in which case it's more efficient in the long-run to go for Arch Bishops.

It is nice to have some Lictors around even if you aren't going for a big bless though, so spending some time with Black Laurel Spectators can be useful.
>>
>>135079832
If you are going for tribless, black laurel spectators give you more dudes more quickly. Arch bishops eventually pay off, but it takes them a while to do so and it gets you your lictors more slowly. You generally want both, since the Archbishops are good for their divine magic and so on too, but when you're fighting an early war (which, as Ermor, you probably are) you probably want at least two black laurels early.

>>
>>135072653
It's in the inspector under events, but some story events have actions that you can manually select, others are triggered by specific things like patrolling, and in the case of this quest he just has to chill there for a few turns, so you can have him do whatever. If you have a lab he can research or if you haven't been there before he can site search and so on. You don't have to leave he same dusk elder there either, just so long as at least one is there when it's time to check events.
>>

>>
Had a play around with sumod. Few thoughts;

Negroes are still shitty, I can see what sum1 wanted to do, mass light inft and rec anywhere witch doctors to back em up, but they still feel under-whelming. The new fear spider sacreds would be OP if they were also affordable. There are other nations with comprable/better sacreds cheaper, other nations with better battlemages that are easy to recruit and massed light infantry/expensive as shit leet units doesn't feel like enough to counter it.

MA Marginon is a little better, rushing angels seems almost viable and the ability to mass flags has me excited. However, working out a bless for them is janky as Margi can't sac scales too extremely to buff em, also the pillage to rec flags isn't quite working as intended I think, I'll reserve judgment till its working.

Lastly, eater of the dead now might be viable, try that shit out.

>>
>>135082503
Oh and as to why I'm putting in the gallóglaigh is that it gives Eriu a hard hitting troop (two handed high str) with some flavour reason. Their current lineup is underwhelming at dealing damage, and it's on 'the list' as a nation to receive some goodies that make them better.
>>
>>135085785
True, just they had a reputation of going into battle with them, and that it was a specific number for each and every soldier.
>>
>>135086150

>>135086456
The gallóglaigh are Scots, westland half-Gealic Scots. The first of them were given as a gift from the 'lord' of the Hebrides to the Duke of Conaught, and because having warriors which spent their entire lives fighting turned out to be good (they were intrinsic in the beating of the anglo-normans in the 12th century) their numbers steadily grew.
They wielded claymores and giant two-handed axes, though also had bows and throwing spears, however they did not ride ponies.

Thanks, this is great feedback. At the end of the day, marignon doesn't really have a bless option that works for all of their sacreds. It's sort of a pick 2 issue. (I like N9Ex for the knights and angels, personally).

Letting the flaggy trick work in enemy dominion might be a step forwards. The thing I'd most like to be able to do is tie the flaggies produced to the damage. The blitz last night (thanks for playtesting!) had some frustration when he pillaged with the high inquisitor leading his army, wiping out thousands of people in a large farm province, and got maybe a dozen flagellants.

>machaka
Maybe. They're certainly much stronger than they were, but they had a really low starting point.
I'd also like to call attention to their hoplites, who are now competitive heavy infantry, though those changes were a little more subtle. (two main pieces of gear got buffed, and they had a cost decrease). RE: Hunter Spiders, I agree they're not phenomenal. I'm going to test them out a little with a mono (N9) bless. I didn't want to make ma machaka a bless nation. CBM did that at one point and I really didn't like that change. Hopefully, they're now usable with a bless, but not overwhelmingly so, and not enough to support a bless strategy on their own. I'll play around with this a little more, though. One of the joys of the new mechanics modding is that it's completely refreshed my play experience for some nations.

Ok, Const4 Bows of War make for an interesting gimmick strat. If you're playing a nation that starts with an A gem and E gem income you can get 3 gem bows of war at const 4, sitesearch for a few A gem sites and set up a few temples and you can be equipping 2 priests a turn.

In battle they're terrifying with a F9A4 bless, Say you spend 5 turns equipping priests and have 10, that's 130 flaming arrows with decent accuracy (hideous accuracy if you get wind guide)

Seems like it would be fun to be honest family.

Define viable.

You can popkill as slow as possible, but you can't outpace the popkill entirely with growth.

The problem with doing that is you actively play against your own interests.

A dead region is useful to no one but you, so making it unusable should it be lost is the best outcome.

Unless you're talking about EA Ermor. I have no experience with that. Most people talk about MA Ermor.
>>
>>135108170
Longdead are unrelated to corpses. They're called longdead because they are one of trillions of untold civilizations that came and went under previous pantokrators. They're infinite.
>>
>>135108193
Popkill is 2% per candle per turn. Growth 3 is 0.6% per turn.
The magnitude means growth gains you very very little.
>>
>>135108170

Send lesser horrors is a pretty good remote raiding spell. I'm not sure about send regular horrors.

Overall I'd say that, while a powerful tool to have, you won't be able to base a strategy entirely on them.
>>
>>135113152
Dominions isn't really game where you can rely on any single thing (unless talking about SP). Multiplayer is all about knowing what your opponent is using and countering it (obviously there are other things such as diplomacy etc.), since you cannot control units during a battle the tactics/choosing spells part is very much about anticipation

Blood magic uses blood slaves rather than magic gems. Magic gems are generated by sites at a fixed amount per month, while blood slaves are generated by hunting for them with blood slaves. While limited by population since blood hunts destroy some every time they're done along with the fact you have to patrol down the ensuing unrest, you can "grow" a blood economy unlike a gem economy. So while blood nations might be losing a lot of gold income in the late game compared to everyone else they'll have much more magical resources in comparison.

>>135115125
Blood magic has some of the best summons in the game, both as troops and unique commanders, which gives you a big advantage if you get to lategame and manage to grab some of them. The main thing about blood magic is that you need to have mages with skill in blood magic hunt for blood slaves to sacrifice which power blood spells. This process generates unrest in a province, so you need to patrol provinces where you are blood hunting. So, it takes a while before you're getting a good income, but on the bright side the amount of blood slaves you can get is only limited by the number of provinces you have being blood hunted. This means that you can get way more blood slaves than gems (which power every other ritual spell in the game, you get a fixed amount per turn depending on what special sites are in provinces you own), and so you're not limited like other magic paths are in summoning shit.

>>
>>135116114
Well later in the game, gold means less than being able to leverage magical resources. A powerful fire mage can destroy thousands of gold worth of troops if they don't have mage support and fire resistance.
Blood nations are the strongest in the late game, but that doesn't mean they're necessarily weak in the early game. Mictlan has their strong sacred jaguar warriors, and LA Ulm has their ultra cheap stealthy crossbowmen.

File: goat sun.jpg (1B, 486x500px)

>>135116114
Blood magic isn't that complex, what it boils down to in actual games is
>Find your cheapest mage with blood magic
>Give them a sanguine dowsing rod (item that improves blood hunting ability)
>find a province with a population above 5000 but below 10,000 so that it doesn't affect your income too much
>make some crappy units to patrol the province with and keep unrest down

And then you get to summon things like this. Isn't it cuddly?
>>
>>135115970
Sadly, no, I am not.

>>135116114
Dominions is somewhat complex by modern vidya standards, but it's not really mind boggling, it's more about having a good memory (or checking the inspector constantly) than is is about understanding difficult mechanics (it's mostly pretty straightforward). The magic part (in beginners terms) can be condensed to this: Casting spells requires a certain level of skill in certain magic paths (So for example, some spell might require your mage to have a skill level of 3 in nature or 2 in nature and 1 in death) to be able to cast it. In addition to that, many spells require gems (or in the case of blood magic, blood slaves) to power it, these gems are a finite resource you gain from events/provinces. And lastly, casting spells in combat accumulates fatigue (depending on the spell cast) that will knock the caster unconscious if he exceeds the fatigue limit.
>>
>>135116886
I mean, that's a pretty shallow simplification of the process and it's already significantly more complicated than every other magical system in the game besides communions.
>>
>>135116926
>>135116114
And to clarify the skill level part, every spell has a specific requirement, so one spell might have the nature 3 and another nature 2 and 1 death (as in the example), although you can use gems and items to cast spells that are higher than your mage level (but you don't need to focus on that in the beginning).
>>
>>135116114
>Sounds complex
If you're into roguelikes, it's not significantly complex than that.
>>
>>135117056
Once you get over the hump of how the resources are handled and generated works it's functionally similar to other forms of magic.
>>
>>135117838
Well one thing about blood magic is it takes a lot more resources than other magic. Pretty much every spell they use requires sacrifice of blood slaves.
>>
>>135118179
Sure, but what's the functional difference with a non B spell that requires gems?
>>
>>135118179
That's true, although rituals aren't any different.
One other unusual thing is that it's easy to empower in blood compared to other types of magic since 50 blood slaves are a lot cheaper than 50 gems.

>>135118476
In combat, bloodslaves can be killed, which can make a difference in some cases.
>>
>>135118476
Pretty much all blood spells require gems, even combat spells.

Other paths have stuff you can spam in combat without having to use gems, and their gem-using spells are typically much stronger.

For rituals you're right, there isn't much difference, which makes blood really good at ritual magic.

They have decent units, especially their elephants and rhino clan warriors. As for the late game, it isn't too hard to get tart factories up and running.

>Diplomacy with gems is tying
I dunno about other communities, but in /domg/ that's only for a trade deal which could be completed on a single turn (i.e. "I'll give you X items/gems/gold in return for Y items/gems/gold").

That's the impression I've got from being around here, anyway.
>>
>>135134189
It's a Russian meme. In that community, any deal involving gems being exchanged is binding. In /domg/ it's literally just direct trades. Generally people are okay with this covering multiple turns, but you're right that it only covers direct trades like gold/gems/items.
>>
>2 guys about stale on turn 1
ffs /domg/ get your shit together
>>
>>135134810
Link game?
>>
>>135134420
If you trade someone 500 gold in return for 1 gem per turn for 20 turns, is that binding?

I'd say no, but I'm curious what /domg/ thinks about it.
>>
>>135135208
I'd say you're an idiot for assuming anything will last 20 turns.

Personally, I'd do everything in my power to uphold that sort of deal even if I went to war with the other party, but if it's a non-cap gem for me and I lose the province there's fuck-all I can do.
>>
>>135135435
Yes, that's pretty much my reasoning too.

Events beyond your control and all.
>>
>>135126986

If this is domgnationsgen, then what else am I supposed to do when I accidentally sail into your cap and see you are weak. On the one hand, smaller expansion, on the other hand, free cap.

here you go (it's 1 hour to go, but if they can't do it in 23 hours on the first damn turn they ain't gonna make it at all)

If a unit with fear is hit with rage, or some other effect which makes the attack allies does their fear aura also affect their allies?
>>
>>135137586
No
>>
>>135137586
Yes
>>
>>135137586
It depends.
>>
>>135137586
I don't know. Maybe test it?
>>
>>135137586
On a quick browse of the manual I would say no. The only exception would be spells that take control of the enemy units (Master Enslave, Undead Mastery etc.)

Rage and Confusion don't change the unit's allegiance, and fear doesn't affect allies.

I've got a small bug to fix in the map generator dropping provinces first. I only have email reminders for helheim and TNN.

>it just horror marks
It doesn't horrormark, it directly summons a horror depending on how many gems are used. 10 gems is around 30% chance to be mauled by horror in my experience.
>>
Protip: Make a bunch of forging deals the turn before you cast Arcane Nexus and/or Astral Corruption for extra gems and/or horror feedings. Warning: The latter is likely to make people extra mad.

Here on /domg/ we don't read because we aren't pansy faggots.

What can you do to keep a mage protected from horror attacks? Immortality is obvious, but are there other ways to not die? Will an S3 scripted to spam soul slay be able to kill incoming horrors?
>>
>>135141365
Arcane Nexus is forging and rituals?
>>
>>135142267
the severity of the horror attack depends on what they're casting. If you put up a big global, the caster better be an immortal and hopefully something like a demilich that gets one shot, because it's not going to beat the Eater of Gods. If it's forging a 10 gem item, it's going to go up against a handful of lesser horrors and a water bottle might be enough.

I can do it, I guess. What Maerlande video should I put in the OP? Or should I do Elephant Whisperer?

Elephant whisperer. It's way more important.
