There is no time he fell into the core in the current timeline, he's been completely scrubbed from it. If he murdered the kids before, the timeline probably rearranged it so either Asgore or other monsters did it now. And Alphys pretty much just totally replaced him as royal scientist, either for as long as he was or there was none until she got the job. We never hear about anyone before Alphys in the current timeline and she was the only one who ever did research on SOULs/determination.

If you weren't playing as Frisk, basically every other human would just be a generic Neutral/Genocide playthrough with no ability to get a good or bad ending because there aren't enough SOULs to break the barrier. Determination to keep going is the player's power given to Frisk, the other humans didn't have that luxury. Them dying is a plot convenience for the good ending to be possible

As far as Chara goes, I think once someone is determined to die, that's it, there's no resetting at that point. Sort of like how Flowey first reset. He wanted to die, but changed his mind and ended up back in the throne room.

I don't think that's really true, Sans sees all kinds of shit in his readings. The reason he stops you in genocide is because, in neutral runs, he will make an emotional appeal to you, the players, especially obvious if you kill his brother and answer his question yes. When you are systematically killling absolutely everyone, he realizes you have 0 attachment and he has to make you ragequit, both you the player and Frisk, in order to get you to reset. He also reveals he is not only depressed but naturally lazy.

There's a writebin in the op of this thread that has a lot of fics written by anons. one of my favorite fics is 'Flowey is not a good lifecoach' on AO3.

2. Sans can't remember between resets. He only knows they are happening because a some sort of machine can read the timelines. Not much else is known. The player can remember timelines because that's YOU. You can see all the different endings because you reset the game. Even if you die you still remember, and you just load back at a save point. Flowey was in your place before you came to the underground. Flowey can't reset while you are playing the game. You override him.
