I am starting to believe the obsession with F/Z over F/SN really shows the differences in viewing preferences between Western and Eastern audiences. At least as a Chinese American myself

Westerns seem to really like ensemble casts with "mature" themes. Adults preferred to younger characters. Action and fast plot movements take the forefront. People dying left and right fits the bill. Everything is preferred to be explained upfront.

Eastern audiences don't particularly mind slower plot movements. Younger characters are fine and dandy and sometimes preferred for them. They really love emotional and dramatic scenes. Westerns will probably scoff at most of it. There's a degree of ambiguity in a lot of things. Even after only living in Japan for a short time this seems to hold true from what I've seen on TV.

I'll admit that UBW has flaws; I don't agree to the wanking that F/Z has.
