I think the general idea is that the hamlet people worshiped Kos(m) in their own native way for a long time before Burgertown found out about them. Then the hunters and scholars showed up, ransacked the village, dissected some of the villagers and of course took blood from Kos's corpse.

Now, after beating Rom I've been struggling A LOT

I managed to kill The One Reborn but the whole area in front of it was hellishly difficult to go through. Getting 1 hit by almost everything.

Now I'm trying to finish The crow's questline but the last hunter is absurdly difficult to kill.

I just can't properly progress through the nightmares of mensis either. I can run through it all but I'm just skipping lots of loot and things I should be able to get.
The dude on the bridge of the nightmare just anihilates me with a spray of his gas if I try to fight him.

I've also unlocked the DLC area but its just as difficult to progress here.

I didn't do much chalice dungeons either but I've been told those are optional


What should I do? I'm lvl 62 and I get blown the fuck out in one hit even by normal dudes.

They are different in pretty much every single aspect, you can't really compare those weapons.

Rakuyo is good, has weird parry windows, has good phantom range, it's fast, has pokes and has good dex scaling. It also has one attack that it's really hard to deal with if the match is laggy.

That's because it's speculation. We know very little about the Orphan. The only tantalizing detail is that Gehrman sleeps easier once the Orphan is dead, but as to why that might be we can only guess.

My take is that the Orphan is the root of the Hunter's nightmare; once you punch out his spooky black ghost you get the "Nightmare Slain" message and he is at the top/end of it. I think Gehrman would naturally be distressed about the memory of the hamlet, since he was probably involved in ransacking it and even if he wasn't stuck in it personally, plenty of his fellow hunters were. The release of that kind of guilt would probably let him rest much more easily.

Hey 4chin, why do lunging attacks get staggered by bullets when their active frames start? It's slow, hard to aim, costs lots of stamina, and has noticeable recovery.

Oh sure, you can't parry it, but that stamina consumption aint given back to you when they shoot you out of the attack.

In regards to the lore why exactly are the Vilebloods evil? The Healing Church and the Executioners and the Hunters of Hunters all seem obviously evil but I can't actually figure out why the vilebloods are evil.

Well Byrgenwerth ascended Rom at some point. The only known way of ascension is through the eyed umbilical cords. It's reasonable to assume that Byrgenwerth, not the Church, opened up the Kos corpse and removed the Orphan (who was clearly not ready to be born yet) and that this is where they got the cord they ascended Rom with. We know Rom was ascended by Byrgenwerth in some ritual due to Micolash's statements. It is possible that it was not through use of the cord but remember that the nightmare of mensis seems to have been hosted by Mergo/Its wet nurse and open slaying them you obtain a cord. It seems Micolash was trying to recreate whatever ritual ascended Rom and the cord is central to it, just as it is for ascending your character.

Eh, even as someone who spends most of his time random invading I don't agree with that. Duels aren't necessarily the most exciting thing but they're relaxing and a good way to work on more fundamental technique like spacing and timing. It's especially helpful when learning a new weapon, and it's also nice to just have some friendly, low-tension PvP.

I think there's a place for both, like there's also fun to be had in co-oping or general PvE.

Alright so I just got the game last night, and picked a cruel fate to start with. I've died about 4 times now I think and am still in the first area, but I did manage to find an NPC not in a house that talked to me and I managed to find a shortcut through a gate that was next to the respawn point

should I be expecting anything sizeable from the first boss? I love the atmosphere and level design. Reminds me of traversing through Boletaria for the first time. Just so unnerving when the enemies start yelling at you as they try to gank you

Hosts should not need to employ shittery, the best way to get through a level with an invader in it is to do what you'd do when clearing an area for the first time; proceed cautiously, pull enemies one at a time wherever possible, and coordinate with your summons to cover each other when you have to stick your neck out. Run past things if you need to. Slowly and surely eliminate all of the invader's allies until you can reach the boss fog, then walk in; once you hit X at the fog or go in the boss's room you're invincible. Invasion handled. If you can kill the invader before then, great, but if you just keep them from killing you the whole time that's still a win.

However, if you want to hang out in an area and just gank invaders, you can always set up an ambush.
