So far I really like dwarf and have a blue hammer and shield and blue drakefires.

What do I go for next?

A nice 2 handed hammer, and a good handgun. Axe and shield too, which is arguably better than the hammer and shield. A majority of Bardin's kit is pretty top notch.

The charge attacks are faster with axe and shield.

Nightmare you can run pretty much any of the weapons you and I have mentioned. Try to make sure at least one of your teammates as an effective way of dealing with specials such as a beam staff or handgun before using drakes. You don't really have to, but it's helpful to have someone who can quickly kill off gunners, stormvermin and the like.

With Cata you can't go wrong with the axe+shield and the handgun.

To be honest I find the hammer and shield is just as good at cc by mixing normals and shoves, plus shit actually will die in a reasonable ammount of time. It really comes down to traits and if you want slightly more CC or slightly more damage.

Just because your teammates are shitters doesn't change the basic nature of the weapon. You would be killing more and doing more damage with a hammer if you were equally as skilled with it. And your teammates would remain just as shit.

Do you get completely random traits when upgrading a weapon? I want to get my shield and hammers upgraded to exotic, but I don't want to lose the health on kill modifier I have.

Well since as an elf you'll be firing that hagbane at your teammates all day, you should get the one that extends downed teammates' health, the one that bestows a shield to teammtes, and skullcracker because lord knows you won't be getting headshots otherwise.

Don't listen to people reccomending ammo, as an elf you're supposed to take every ammo pickup you find. If your teammates take one of them be sure to tell them to stop taking your ammo in chat, people will understand that as a ranged character you need it more.

Some cultists would probably be fine for rabble. Warriors/marauders could replace storms. Lesser daemon's in place of ogres.

It's not terribly far fetched but it probably would ammount to just reskins and some new VO. Not worth the effort, I'd rather see new player characters since they'd take roughly the same ammount of work.

I'm really disappointed in fatshark

We're literally never getting those last two altar pages, ded game

So I've got a blue beam staff with 7% regrowth and stability that I've been using for a while. I've also got an orange beam staff with ~5.5% regrowth and some other crap.

Is the difference in damage significant enough to warrant using the orange? Or should I stick with the blue until I get something with better traits?

Eh go for it. 1.5% regrowth isn't huge, hail of doom is nice and people say it works on the beam. Extra damage means melting rogres and specials faster which is basically what beam is made for. If you're killing things faster that somewhat makes up for losing stability.

The thing is storms ain't that bad if you have competent riflemen, and it's fucking useless for crowds which are arguably the biggest threat in the game. If the WH is the last alive and he has an axe he's straight fucked if a horde spawns before he can revive someone, where one with a rapier or even the 2h has a chance of surviving and pulling the game out of the shitter.

Axe is a single target weapon. Doesn't wave clear as well as the rapier or even the 2h sword.
Crossbow I can see some use for its natural penetration in lined up rats. I would leave the specials to the handgunners though.
