From what UTanon has said before, the actual troop stacks remain blobbed by unit type.
Accessing the individual bios on the overworld is done through camp menus, and is otherwise tracked somewhat abstractly in an already extant in native data structure in the background.

You know how when you turn your mouse, the character turns with it, right?

Well, for some reason if I'm standing still and move my mouse, my character stays still and I can rotate the camera around as if I was using the view outfit key.

I don't know when this started happening, but it's sort of annoying. It makes movement feel really sluggish for me.

exactly. your natural leadership is, say, 5, but with the book it's 6, you will ugrade to naturally 6 with the same charisma requirement as it would to upgrade it to 6, but after doing so it'll be 7 thanks to the book.

No, whether or not you have the bonus from the book you need 18 cha to get 6 leadership.

You would be correct if the book gave the bonus from being in your inventory, as with the Trainer book for instance, but it's simply not the case with the leadership bonus. It's a permanent bonus indistinguishable from having invested a point in it yourself through the character screen.

My character for instance has 27 cha and 9 leadership, with one of those leadership points from the book. I can not get 10 leadership without getting 30 cha.

Floris is a good first ''overhaul'' mod. Then there's in my opinion Silverstag, but it completely changes how the troop system works, everything else remain more or less like it is in Vanilla though. So less changes on other fronts compared to Floris, but changes troop system completely.

Gekokujo, 1257 ad and Brytenwalda are some fun and generally well made SP mods. Brytenwalda is a bit controversial though.

They are total conversion mods though so you get a very different experience from vanilla, what the other posters are recommending are minor improvements (Diplomacy) and somewhat questionable overhauls (Floris, Silverstag)

Would it be possible to make an army entirely made up of captured prisoners that you convinced to join?

What would be the pros and cons of this?
Does the persuasion skill affect your chances of converting prisoners into your party?

Which shouldn't be possible, period. The only thing that should be capable of one-shotting even a butt naked human being with no armor is a polearm or a couched lance on a charging destrier. Otherwise even a thrust clean through a human being won't instantly kill, and they'll be able to fight for a couple more seconds before falling over and dying. Hell even early firearms wouldn't necessarily instantly kill either.

depends on the armor obviously, and the quality of the armor
but generally gambesons are pretty good at absorbing blows which is why they were worn under heavier armors, since they acted like padding, but they were more vulnerable to sword slashes, axes, and spears, they weren't usually used in hot climates because it'd be like wearing loads of layers of clothes in a desert
mail is pretty good, it's decently light, it breathes so overheating isn't an issue and it can be worn in hotter climates, it protects well against slashing but it's really vulnerable to spears
lamellar offered generally better protection than mail, protects a lot better against axes and spears, but it's much heavier, has overheating issues, and wasn't really used in europe
plate is great at protecting against just about anything, but having a visor down meant you couldn't see shit, the heaviest armor at approx 25kg (60lbs~) for a full suit, and was a bitch to transport unlike mail

each armor has advantages and disadvantages, best we can do in warband currently is just make more protective armors heavier

Well against bladed weapons, a sword will literally do nothing to a man in plate armor unless manipulated by half swording (grabbing the middle of the blade with your hand) to thrust it into a tiny gap. The main two ways to defeat plate armor is to either get a fuckload of force from something like a hammer with a lot of weight on it, and basically trying to concuss the man in it to death. The other way is to get something with a very fine point, such as a pick on a bec de corbin, and driving it into the plate armor with enough energy to punch through the armor like driving a sturdy knife through a crab.

But to defeat it, you generally need two-handed specialist weapons, hence their rise to prominence as plate armor became common in the Late Middle Ages and Early Modern Era.

Cloth is better than you think, but still not great.
Leather is pretty shit against dedicated weapons, but it works.
Mail used to be the GOAT. Completely blocks slashes, is flexible and comfortable (as far as armor goes), easy to repair, and still holds up to most pointy things better than leather does. Generally was either pierced or crushed through (see: flanged mace, axes)
Lamellar was pretty good. Behaves similarly to Mail in a lot of ways, but fell out of favor because of reasons. Was a bit more protective on the whole, especially as the greeks kept innovating its construction. Everyone besides the chinese and japanese preferred mail once they learned about it, and the Byzantines wore both just because.
Plate is the true GOAT. Properly made and fitted plate will defend against everything capably. Most combat tactics against plate equipped enemies involve getting around the plate rather than through it. Blunt weapons were effective for deforming the armor, but still had a hard time penetrating for damage. Problem with full suits is that actually getting into the damn things is a hassle, and good full helms weren't really invented until the renaissance when guns had become advanced enough to pose a direct threat.

Perisno is good, but starts off SUPER BRUTALLY HARD with massive several hundred parties running around the map attacking everybody, but rapidly switches and becomes SUPER easy when you get the ball rolling as a lord. Now, VC is challenging, with its special leveling up and training system, even Gekokujo can be difficult with its lack of shields and mass of ranged units.

And money from where? Viking Conquest requires a lot of time invested on it since you need a clear setup to either start your life as lord or as a raider. Even more so if you are out of Britain.
Mercenaries have extremely expensive wages that are difficult to maintain for any starter player, even more so if you don't know what to do since VC can be really different to vanilla Warband in terms of progress.

Now, let's keep on track about why PoP is a such a piece of shit.
Let's talk about it's setting and assets.
PoP assets are utterly disgusting, not only did they implemented a faction like the Empire that seems more like a clusterfuck between Greek and Roman cultures, but also made sure that not a single unit or equipment from said faction looked remotely good. It makes me honestly disgusting to even look at their troops since it looks like something out of a chinese mod. Might as well put PoP on that tier.
It's the same shit with nearly every single faction in the game, terrible looking assets that honestly make me feel like I am playing a Mount & Blade mod, and not a Warband one. You see better texture work on a PS1 game.
The only faction that is remotely close to good looking is Ravenstern, which saddly is still stuck in the uninspired setting that is PoP.
You see a more interesting setting in a mod like Sayazn or even Historical related mods than anything PoP has to offer with its high fantasy shit and recycled assets.

That's like the main feature of the mod. Troops in vanilla already keep their own stats steady because these only change whenever they are upgraded.

The mod so far gives each troop a constant face and name, allows their equipment to remain constant and can be upgraded from the troops they defeat in battle, and gives a report after each battle about who died, got knocked out and how did each of your soldiers do during the battle, as well as allowing you to overview your soldiers from the camp menu.

I've been playing with 6 STR 6 AGI on my most recent character and I'm doing perfectly fine on max difficulty, even been able to do quite a bit in battle.

PBOD (Pre Battle Options and Deployment) is a formations mod for the battle maps, so you can order troops into formations like square, wedge, ranks etc
in some mods the AI uses formations, in some they don't
PBOD also isn't something you can install in a mod like brainy bots, it's something you have to implement in source so you really have to play mods that already have it, like floris, ACOK, 1257 etc

Well that depends on what abilities my companions have. I'm playing with Silverstag. Lezalit for example has ''Tactician'', which means he increases the damage of people around him a certain % depending on how much Tactics he has. I'm building him as heavy cavalry, other than that I pump Int.
Borcha I'm using as heavy cavalry and scout, other than that I also pump Agi for Looting because he has an ability which increases post-combat loot depending on how much Looting he has.

Nexy playthrough I'm going to focus on improving companions primarily as fighters, and secondarily depending on what abilities they have.

It happens to me constantly. Only about 2/3 of the arrows that hit me actually hit my shield, even though I'm dead certain I'm holding it at the optimal angle. Shields only have a narrow cone of deflection. Any arrow that comes from more than, say, 30-45 degrees to the side of where you're pointing the shield is going to hit your body.

Just be careful. See the enemy ranged soldiers aiming in on you? Try to hide behind a hill or something, they'll usually switch targets pretty quick. Don't ride alone into the enemy field of fire. Keep moving. Don't ride straight at the enemy army. Keep moving. Just basic stuff like that will keep you alive. If you are seriously not being a scrublord and still getting killed a lot you have to be obscenely unlucky, but you really do sound like a scrublord.

Another piece of advice
Villages are shit
If your liege offers you one, decline it. Every village you have lowers your chance of getting anything else.
Go for the towns. Towns are where the money and the power is at.
Also get enterprises.

Silverstag is great, it adds a shit tonne of convenience features that you'll wish were in every mod, more depth in fief and kingdom management and some unique stuff like combat abilities. It also overhauls recruitment in training that you may love or hate; troops of all tiers can now be directly recruited from towns and castles, though powerful troops are very expensive and sometimes have additional requirements like being of the right faction or having good enough relations with the center. So you guys have got me asking around about enterprises, but dyeworks, which are objectively the best in terms of profit-to-startup ratio, cost like 10000 denars and only produce around 500-600 denars per week. The way I look at it is this.

U is the weekly profit from a given investment.
V is the start-up cost associated with that investment.
X is your party's current weekly upkeep.
Y is how much money you currently have.
Y/X is the number of weeks you could keep paying your upkeep, if you did nothing.
(Y–V)/(X–U) is the number of weeks you could keep paying your upkeep, if you made the investment, but then did nothing else.

If (Y–V)/(X–U) ≥ Y/X, in other words if Y/X ≥ V/U, then make the investment.
If (Y–V/(X–U) < Y/X, in other words if Y/X < V/U, then don't make the investment.

Alright I think I fucked up, I changed ACOK's stats to these, and I think I actually made armor weaker.

armor_soak_factor_against_cut = 0.99
armor_soak_factor_against_pierce = 0.85
armor_soak_factor_against_blunt = 0.80

armor_reduction_factor_against_cut = 0.99
armor_reduction_factor_against_pierce = 0.75
armor_reduction_factor_against_blunt = 0.60


What simply is the way to make armor the most durable? Because I think by increasing the percentages I actually made it weaker. This is terribly confusing, and it doesn't help my characters often have fiendish strength and power strike, so it's even harder to judge.

I don't really like PoP but I never understood how that's a problem for so many people.
Those units are easy as fuck to deal with. The only problem you should ever have is running into the huge parties while doing ctrl space which you can just savescum through anyways.

Late answer but usually I just select the file I want in the .brf, then Ctrl+C=>Ctrl+V in a ressource file of the mod I want the item into (usually one where you'll find it easily).
Then I make sure that last ressource file is in the mod_load_ressource list in module.ini.
After that find the textures the mesh is using in the texture folder, Copy them in the texture folder of the mod I want to play.
Then in Openbrf => import textures => select the textures I just added in the folder.
Then create an item using this mesh in Morgh's.
