DVDs can be ripped quite easily if you have a DVD writer and the right software. Got most of my PS2 games backed up.

So I spent the day catching up on the cfw scene (which I had largely been out of the loop on), but the amount of outdated guides and different scenarios is kind of overwhelming.

I have a virgin 9.0 n3DS. I actually have a Gateway, and I have Cubic Ninja. I guess my main problem is so many guides are about not owning those. I just want to dive in, separate NANDs and get CakesFW on here.

Most of the guides will work for you anyway. A majority of them use Browserhax in place of Ninjhax, so just set up Ninjhax in those steps instead if you want, rest of the guides should still apply fairly accurately. Or you can just keep using your Gateway since you have it already.

You should be able to just run Ninjhax without anything else needed, it can boot straight to the HBC on its own. Having Ironhax AND Ninjhax is redundant.

Do you already have your Gateway emunand set up? If so then all you actually need to do is set up the .3dsx files for whatever CFW you want to run via HBC, RxTools uses the same emunand as GW, and I THINK Cakes does too but don't quote me on that. My knowledge of -hax is iffy at best, but I'm just going off what I know + a bit of logic.

My PS2 has just stopped reading any kind of disk whatsoever. The laser moves, and will detect the kind of media as being a CD (red laser) or DVD (can't see shit) but It just show's "reading disc..." for a second and then goes back to its original position. So I managed to set everything up, got an emunand and everything, but now for some reason when I boot up my New 3ds it goes from the menuhax loader and saying "booting rxtools in 1" to immediately rebooting back to menuhax loader screen.

Im just stuck in an eternal loop of loading to the rx tools then it rebooting itself. sometimes I even see the rxtool splashscreen before it reboots.

I cannot for the fucking life of me get POPSloader working on my ps2. I have wiped my USB thumb drive and started from scratch three times to make sure I'm not doing it wrong.

I have the POPS folder in the root of the drive with POPS.PAK, PFS_WRAP.BIN and the VCD of my game which I made with cue2pops. In the root beside that folder I have the popstarter elf renamed to XX.MYGAME.ELF.

Every time I try to run it it just resets the console. I've tried it with three different games and a few revisions older than the current one (which require POPS.ELF). Nothing fucking works. has anyone gotten it to work and if so can you please share your config. This is driving me nuts.

If you have DevMenu, BigBlueMenu, FBI or any other CIA installer already installed on your emunand then you're pretty much done.

RXTools 3.0 is more feature-complete, but Cakes is coded a lot better. Cleaner but newer so still working on getting a lot of features. Cakes+NTR covers most of the stuff RXTools does, though. Midkid is planning on adding the missing features eventually.

Cakes can't install CIAs. CIAs are just the official file type nintendo uses for 3ds games and such. An installer is a program like FBI/DevMenu/BigBlueMenu. Since these things will fail a signature check, you need to use CFW to use them. Having CFW alone doesn't allow installing any CIA.

Also wanted a smaller one because swappable faceplates, better looking buttons and pixel density, etc. The N3DS is just a smaller N3DS XL. With the O3DS and O3DS XL they altered the shape and stuff a lot. My O3DS cuts into my hands from the weird corners.

6.X is already MSET compatible. You just need a working DS flashcart to get the ROP setup.

I haven't fucked up all my 3DSs. I just wanted to switch from an O3DS back to an N3DS. Didn't fuck anything up, just didn't do homebrew stuff when I first got the N3DS XL so I system transferred to it right away from my O3DS XL leaving me with two of them too new for CFW.
