I'm at level 13, I believe I broke the beginner wall. Now stuff is less luck related and more tactical.

So I need your help: My hacker is still a one note priest with a +6 giantslayer with -6 AC and no spells because lol iron armor (I accidentally the robe). Only other thing worthy of note is a ring of regen.

I have two blessed scrolls of genocide. Should I use them now or wait till something is about to kill me (hopefully not elementals)

I have sleep, cold, shock and poison resistance intrinsic and fire resis extrinsic that I'm not using.

I also amulet of reflection, life saving just in case, a shitton of teleport wands with tp control, wand of death and wand of cancellation. So I can run away things pretty fast.

What should I do, where should I go? Last time I went past the rogue level I ended up fighting an arch-lich a level fucking 12 and only survived because I was geared up beyond belief.

All uniques might be similar to winning nightmare, sure, except that you're probably skipping out on the level/HP modifiers.

ToME nightmare, insane, and madness have hugely increased flat level modifiers, across the board, for all monsters, such that when you're fighting in madness high peak you have to defeat monsters of level 150+.

Nightmare, insane and madness also have increased HP modifiers across the board, such that when you're fighting in madness high peak you have to defeat monsters that have over 500K HP.

Insane and madness also have random talent assignment to unique and boss rank monsters, such that they are spamming full screens of debuffs at you within the span of one turn after coming into view.

Furthermore, madness specifically seems to be tuned intentionally by the game's devs towards weeding out broken class and skill combinations: Classes that have won madness in the past have received targeted nerfs towards disabling the things that allowed them to win.


You won normal, with a mod, with OOZEMANCER of all things. Congratulations. Don't think that remotely qualifies you to talk about madness.

The early game is *hard* - there isn't really any way around that, low skill UC is easily the weakest weapon available and startscumming fights at low XLs is risky as fuck.

The struggle to reach lair and getting to the point where you can actually kill stuff there is not something that you can just wave away, even with 'perfect' positioning and execution you might end up having to spend crutches in order to solve whatever dilemma you got yourself into.

While I'm convinced that /rlg/s finest are literal zen masters with absolute focus and concentration for every move they make as a MuMo - you never really get to the point where you can just relax and o-tab the things.

Even with all this in mind there isn't any point to going full retard and ranting about how the robe was literally a free win because that's some next level cognitive dissonance.

Difficulty is the biggest problem with CogMind.

The RNG is incredibly mercurial and that means the AI is at an severe advantage simply because he gets many more chances to shoot than you do.

The game itself is rather neat, but I haven't touched it since Alpha 3 for this reason. The best run I ever had was a jet bot after the rest of my shit got blown off.

You probably want somewhere around 8 to 12 transmutations before switching your focus to other things.

It's only really important that you get blade hands castable a couple of times per fight, if the failrate is a little high it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

MuMo reinforces the importance of things like positioning and kiting and resource management, and even if he doesn't get very far with it, so what? At least he's being exposed to situations where he can learn, and the relevant skills developed translate pretty well across the genre.

I would go so far as to say that it's probably a better learning experience than mindlessly tabbing MiBe or something, as long as he's still having fun with it.

I really try to roleplay this game in my mind.

I really like this mix between ACSII and graphic sprites, really fits some games well.
