For the arcane build, I'm supposed to farm fire radials in layer 2 of central pthumeru, right? What are the best gems I can expect to get there?

on the one hand, i prefer games where invasions are easy and frequent

With Cling Ring and Foe's Ring and PBCT, the bonus damage you get as an invader almost exactly makes up for the health you're missing. Having less health and more damage is actually ADVANTAGEOUS in a 2 or 3v1 situation where you want to be able to burst down summons as quickly as possible, as opposed to DkS system where invaders have no modifiers and just have the same stats as a host or summon.

Yeah you gotta give up 2 ring slots, but DeS didn't have anything like RoFaP, Hornet, DWGR, etc. Losing ring slots was not a huge deal.

I can't get back up the surgery altar. I never got the lamp post in the research hall and for some reason the alter won't take me back up, I just got the skull and the gun. Please help.

It's mainly on NG+ and above, where his baby attacks stop doing a tiny amount of damage that you immediately rally back via R1 spam, and instead take 2/3 of your HP. The fight breaks down on higher NG cycles because things that shouldn't even have a hitbox, but do no damage anyways so it's not a problem, suddenly do massive damage and you have to watch for every twitch and flail, which he does so much of during the second phase that there's virtually no real openings to attack him outside of his firespit.

Some weapons are blatantly better than others while occupying the same niche, it's just the nature of a miyazaki game.

The Hunter's Axe is essentially the bitch weapon of BB. The reach in tricked mode allows you to stay at a safe distance and poke at a boss instead of getting right up in their shit. It's essentially the crutch that's supposed to carry passive players until they can get Ludwig's holy crutch. Saw spear is the saw cleaver with a better trick mode, if you aren't afraid to get close and mash R1 it'll be the weapon for you for most of the game.

Yeah From games have never been balanced around the idea of multiple players. Co-op is supposed to trivialize the difficulty, because they can afford to design the game with difficulty in mind knowing that the player has the option to turn on easymode without actually turning on easymode.

It would actually be nice if they eventually made bosses designed from the ground up for co-op. IIRC there's an action MMO that handles the concept of multiple players vs one boss in an action environment really well.

I think overall DeS was the nicest game to invaders, in spite of the health penalty. The damage boosts were great when combined with cursed weapons and you had access to grass. About the only downside compared to other games is that it was possible to friendly fire on enemies while trying to kill someone.

But that niceness was probably accidental. In DeS, a successful invasion automatically gives you your body back like successful coop does, so I think that they were planning on people using the black eye stone as a way to get their body back while playing through the game normally, they weren't planning on invasions being so fun that people would just park themselves in certain areas and do nothing but. So it was based around the assumption that invaders and hosts would have roughly equivalent gear and grass reserves, which didn't turn out to be the case.

Every game since has attempted to balance out invaders to be at a disadvantage, like they were supposed to be in DeS, and I think usually around the assumption that invaders are highly likely to be endgame-geared characters going back to earlier areas.

And that's what I see in DkS3. If you're complaining that it seems like the invader can't win, that's exactly right, the systems have always been designed to put invaders at some disadvantage and make it more likely that the host will prevail, since the host is the one actually risking something. You can see that ideology even in something as small as the flasks replenishing after an invader dies; no more winning an invasion only to not have enough supplies to kill the boss.

It won't matter though, I'm gonna slaughter all those DkS2 scrubs anyway.

Hey, friends. I created a new character because my NG+ character is shit unfortunately.

My stats so far are as follows:

Vit: 23
End: 14
Str: 15
Skill: 20
Bloodtinge: 9
Arcane: 8

I've been using the Hunter's Saif so far and I really enjoy it, but I'm torn because I'm not quite sure it's good for PvE in terms of DLC bosses or later bosses in general. Would it be a good weapon to +10? I had also thought of Whirligig perhaps as well.

One more question, I apologize. So far, in terms of build, what would be the best bet in terms of stat placement for a general quality build? I'm sorry, as I feel I am unfortunately inept in my build creation.

That's usually good enough. The goal isn't to introduce a secondary source of damage or have another player solo the boss while you watch (though that happens plenty), it's just to introduce a situation that the boss' moveset and ai is very poorly equipped to deal with. Virtually every boss in ever souls game ever has a big fat blindspot somewhere behind it, and having 2 aggro targets means someone always gets to sit in it and deal damage. As long as the ai serves as a distraction, the bossfight becomes radically less challenging.

One major concern when designing games is that the overwhelming majority of your audience and consumers will be people who are not dedicated or hardcore fans, and in many cases aren't even particularly dedicated to gaming. It's an industry imperative to ensure games are easy enough for those sorts of players to progress, since anybody would lose interest if they're completely brickwalled by an insurmountable challenge for multiple playing sessions. We all know that making games easy like that makes them less fun for fans and dedicated players, and From's co-op system is an elegant solution to this. In fact, From games tend to be full of subtle and clever ways in which the player chooses their own difficulty. Since few people will willingly flip a game on to easy mode if the option is right in front of them, because it's belittling, players will happily choose to cheese a difficult encounter with poison arrows, backstab fish difficult enemies and summon for difficult bosses with full awareness that doing so is essentially making the game easier, but will enjoy the process rather than feel like the game is mocking them.

There was a glitch where players summoned to the Gehrman fight would load back into their game and have access to the DLC key item, effectively permitting them to access the dlc for free.

They took the servers offline to prevent too many people from getting the dlc for free and killing their sales before they can get a hotfix out, but the ETA on that fix is unknown because they obviously don't know exactly what is causing the bug in the first place. It could take minutes or days to find and fix the issue, after which they have to run thorough tests and ensure it's well and truly fixed before they can put the servers back up.

Bloodletter's normal form is shit and its trick form scales exclusively of of blood, so you can run minimum STR to weild your weapons and then go straight up to 50 blt.

Bear in mind the gatling gun's blt scaling is shit. It gets by through having a high base damage, but it's not particularly a blt weapon.

I fucking hated this. I can hand it to DkS2 it had some serious build variety, but personally I really like a small set of distinct playstyles, rather than a huge gradient.

DeS had a problem where it had like 50 weapons, but only about 10 to 15 were at all worth using, the rest were just worse versions of some other weapon. E.G. Knight Sword > Longsword > Shortsword. There is not reason to use Long/Shortsword over the Knight Sword, they have less range and deal less damage and get nothing in return. Anyways, it was obvious that in the sequels, something needed to change.

DkS and DkS 2 fixed this problem by going in one direction: they made the "inferior" versions actually have things that gave them some advantage. Broadsword had less range, but more damage than longsword and a different R2 and two-handed rolling attack. Sun Sword had more range and damage, but slightly longer recovery on its attacks. Etc. Dark Souls 2 took this even further, making some weapons use more/less stamina, actually balancing weight of weapons so that it was a relevant stat, changing scalings around a lot, changing lots of the moves, etc.

Bloodborne went the opposite direction. It did the equivalent to just removing Longsword/Shortsword from the game, and only leaving Knight Sword.

IMO this was the best fix. Everything feels distinct, and you don't have problems that come with DkS2's content bloat.

Usually you will stop with 25 Strength and 40 to 50 Skill, but it depends on how much you're going to level up.

The shitty thing about those is that a lot of them were viable because they were all very similar. There were hardly any weapons with completely unique attacks, I calculated it out one time and it's something like only 10% of weapons. The design approach was to have a set of generic attacks for each class, then for most weapons mix and match those movesets with different stat spreads.

It's funny, because it's almost the exact opposite weapon design philosophy as BB, where instead there are hardly any shared attacks between weapons and everything strives to be unique.

My one issue is that there are too many weapons relegated in the Str/Skl category. It makes sense that it is this way, but a little bit more variety would be welcome. Thankfully the DLC gave us some good additions and only one or two questionable ones.

I also don't understand why they just don't add two handed weapons into the Souls series. It seems so easy but apparently the value of holding every weapon in one hand and using a shield is too high.

LHB is perfectly even quality, so your build strategy would be to get strength and skill to 25 first, then raise one of them to 50, then raise the other to 50. Usually people pick skill first because visceral damage, but there's also a good number of weapons that are better with str/skl than skl/str.

A lot of weapons fall under quality specifications of one kind or another, so whether it's str or skl is up to what other weapons you'd like to use. Or he'd like to use, I guess.

I liked the gradient because it meant I could find a playstyle and build and weapon that fight just right for me by trying various things, and could find something else way on the other side of the spectrum that changed my playstyle completely and gave me a fresh experience (eg. powerstanced fists vs halberd vs pure pyromancy vs greathammer).

Bloodborne still experiences some of the redundancy (Ludwig's and Kirk have the same untricked form, Saw Cleaver and Spear have the same untricked moveset, Tonitrus and now Boom Hammer have an even smaller moveset than Dark Souls weapons), but mainly deals with the issue of while every weapon is very conceptually unique (longsword that transforms into a greathammer, Scimitar that becomes a scythe, Whipcane, etc), many of them fulfill the same or similar niches, or don't offer meaningfully different playstyles from the other. Their uniqueness, I think, only really shines in pvp where even small nuanced differences in moveset can matter a lot and every attack in a moveset will find use.

I Liked bloodborne, but I think I prefer the souls way of doing things more, and I'm looking forward to seeing DaS3 be more of the same.

I know that they've completely mishandled the situation from top to bottom. To be totally honest, I think they should have just let the bug sit until they had an option to fix the problem in a timely manner. I'm a paying customer and I'm being kept away from more than one good/service I paid for, so that Sony can freak out about a few third worlders stealing DLC. They're punishing the only people who don't deserve it.

That's because those bugs don't cause enormous functionality and useability issues. You can bet if they find an exploit for Destiny to get a free copy of TTK, they'd solve the issue in less than 24 hours. I know. I found my first playthrough too easy so I wanted to go through again with a more challenging weapon and enjoy the bossfights a little more.

Depends on personal preference and what BL you're going to stop leveling at. 15/20 end is for PvP when people are stopping at BL 98.

IMO Endurance is, in general, better for PvE than it is in PvP. It lets you unload more R1 spam into bosses while they're recovering, or stunlock single enemies for more HP, crowd control enemies/dodge attacks longer before having to wait for stamina to recover, etc. In PvP you will basically always have some amount of downtime where stamina is recovering, you can be as relentlessly aggressive as you can be in PvE.
