The problem with tickrate talk is that FPS games today are mostly full of casuals and the general public, to them it's this magic term that they either cannot understand or believe people who use it are just dropping memes on them. Anyone who has actually played a FPS before fully understands the situation and why 20 is unacceptable, the sad part is you can't really discuss the wide ranging implications it has without getting dogpiled by absolute retards who flood the conversation with nonsensical posts whining that either no one will explain it to them or that it's just a joke and 20 is fine.

Is 20 bad? Yes it most certainly is, for a 6v6 game with a lot of high speed movement going on you need 64 for public servers.

Am I going to freak out about it yet? Not entirely, it's possible this is just for the early beta and they will go higher later on but Blizzard needs to understand how awful 20 tick is and that they cannot keep it this way.

The FOV still being so tiny is a bigger issue right now.

it's kinda weird honestly, like generally hitting targets feels super easy but you feel like you lack any precision

like for example as mccree it's very easy to hit people with your revolver but to purposefully trying to land headshots is next to impossible if the enemy is not just standing still

there is very heavy interpolation to make it all feel smooth and responsive and i'm sure it will fool the average gamer

Honestly, after having played the beta weekend, the 20 tickrate really isn't that big a deal.

This is coming from someone who plays ESEA because of the 128 tick. The tick rate just won't matter for the average Overwatch game. You aren't peaking corners, you're blowing right past them. 90% of the time you're out in open space and like majority of the guns in the game are non-hs projectiles.

The limited FoV is a way bigger deal than the low tickrate.

As someone who has been playing FPS games at the highest level for 17 years I noticed it very frequently playing Tracer, the Tracer vs Widowmaker matchup was settled many times by the low tickrate. I found myself getting shot at the place I teleported from because the server never registered my teleport.

What will blizzdrones say next? That Blizzard is just a small poor indie company and we can't possibly expect them to be able to provide high quality gaming servers to the playerbase?

Really what you should be hearing on the forums if it's actually an issue is people saying responses feel off, either sluggish reactions or getting hit around corners and such very often. But most of that is usually attributed to latency not tickrate. And as has been discussed, the gameplay isn't all pinpoint accurate bullets all the time, so they can actually do some... let's call it 'magic' sort of to hide some perceived oddity with it.
Hopefully if they have larger beta waves people can actually pay attention very carefully and see if they're actually feeling those half second disparities.

Have they even been recording any of it? There are lots of streamers, they should easily have been able to compile quite a few if it was actually a problem. I'm not in the beta so I can only guess from what I've seen.

The most difficult stuff to master isn't only in OW. Aiming and strategic movement can be applied to any fps.
