For being advertised as im@s the movie, it sure felt like Haruka: The Movie.

Not that this approach is inherently bad, so I guess I can give it props for painting a more rounded out view of Haruka's character and concerns so it retroactively explains her demeanor in the last few episode of the 2011 series as more sympathetic. But really, the rest of 765 in the movie couldn't have been more irrelevant.

Also, the completely assed treatment of the ML girls. Those weren't the ML girls there. Those were freaks with the same name and face as them. None of them really acted like their character. I don't even fucking recognize that fat chick named Kana. The closest they got was with Shiho, who was meant to be sort of a no fun bitch, but even then they kind of went overboard with it.

I get that the movie was more of there to bring full circle to Haruka's character arc, but there are better ways they could've done it. If they bring in characters from a spinoff only to move along introspection of another character AND misrepresent the characters from said spinoff while they're at it, we have a problem here.

I'd add the freaky rotoscoping too, but this is just beating the dead horse at this point.

Really it's very likely that A-1 was forced to include them. Hell I'd even go so far as to say Namco forced the Haruka focus on them. That doesn't quite absolve them of the shittyness of the movie, but really I'd put the unneeded addition of the MLs down the Namco. They used the movie to promote a mobile game and the movie suffered for it.

Make AkaP's eventual departure a crux plot point. Set it as the impetus for all of the 765 idols to reevaluate on what they really want to do and the aspirations they have for themselves. Make each girl have a little bit of introspection and two cents on the current situation of 765 to show their growth from then the anime started. Building on her arc in the TV series, make Haruka the most visibly shaken and concerned with the massive changes upcoming. Make the climax scene of the movie having the 765 girls having a heart to heart talk with each other. Maybe add a little scuffles and slight arguments here and there to add to the required drama quota of A-1. Just make it focus on the aspect that Haruka is scared of having her danketsu hugbox challenged. Have the resolution be along the lines of "No matter what happens, we will always be together" (As stated in a recent interview that pointed out that this was the main theme of the 2011 anime.). Then make them full tension to provide the grandest "Temporary Farewell" concert for AkaP.

And there you go. Wasn't really that hard. The ML's aren't really required for this. If they really needed to put it in the movie, just insert some short cameo scenes here and there or make them part of the audience in the grand finale concert.

Haruka never really got proper closure on that. The aspect of AkaP leaving in the movie is the perfect device to make each girl question the status quo of their Idol lives.

And if we look at Haruka's behaviour towards Shiho in the movie, clearly Haruka's resolved isn't steeled towards rogue non Danketsu elements.

Kyoko getting a voice is pretty damn awesome too; now Uzuki can have PCS and won't be the only NG member without an alternative (fully-voiced) trio. I wash the salt in my mouth from the final episode of the anime with the sweet syrup of success, because it was all daijobou in the end. Yui and Yumi are expected because of anime voice and election ranking, respectively, but Yuka seems completely random. Maybe Yuka can bring us a hot-blooded EDM song we could play Mortal Kombat to, who knows.
