Okay serious talk: Will Nintendo give us more handhelds? Mobile games are hot stuff, especially in nippon land. MS still won't touch it (handhelds) with a 10ft. pole. And... look at Vita. Look at the 3DS when it started out too, albeit it's doing fine now. Personally I say they will give us 1 more and then take a good look at the smartphone competition.

Of course they're going to continue with handhelds, those have been their bread and butter since Game and Watch was relevant.

I expect a more ergonomic model in the future though. People keep saying that the handhelds are too big for pockets but women don't even have pockets and no one complains that they have to put a tablet in a backpack or handbag or what have you.

On the flipside, It's possible they may do what the Vita did and have a single touchscreen since the dual screen aspect is no longer novel and fewer games are making use of them.

The game's about finances and happy points. There aren't any mini-games in the board game mode (I think there are mini games in a separate mode though) but instead there will be objectives based throughout the board, like Jack will say he needs helpers to get him candy, and spaces will have candy on different parts of the map you can collect.

Landing on positive spaces will grant you money and possibly and varying degree of "happy points," as will negative spaces remove money and happy points (you can also play yourself into negative amounts of money, i.e. debt)

You can grab these fortune teller cards that'll affect the other players, some bullshit will happen like opposite day, fishing contest where the bigger fish sells for more and the contest winner gets more happy points, and you can sell turnips by playing the stalk market multiple times. Doing certain objectives grants you happy points, and by the end of the game you gain a final stretch of happy points based on how many bells you have at that point, so whoever managed their finances well by the end of the game or got retardedly lucky at the last stalk market can get a huge sum of points. (Think the bonus star segment in Mario Party but it's affecting everybody in the game)

I know it's difficult to take a game seriously when there's a mechanic called "happy points," but bear with me on this one. I see a lot of people compare it to Monopoly too, I guess.

The Amiibo don't do anything extensive, and theoretically everybody can just use the same Isabelle Amiibo to play. I don't know the full detail of it but data is saved to the Amiibo and you can unlock outfits and shit for your character to wear, like Digby can wear a that raincoat or a basic green shirt with the leaf logo.

I find it hard to pinpoint exactly what I dislike about Ocarina of Time. I think it's partly down to the overblown hype and high expectations around it- I enjoyed what I played but I was always waiting for it to improve and really kick into gear. My favourite part of the Zelda series is solving puzzles and beating the dungeons, but 3D Zelda seems to focus more on the in between sections from what I've played. As an example, in Link's Awakening most of the time you can explore as much as you'd like at any moment, the only limitation being the items you do or don't have which makes the world itself feel like a giant puzzle you're slowly solving. In Ocarina of Time, it feels more like the world is held behind plot points, and certain events just don't happen at all until you do x or y first. I hope either the other 3D Zeldas focus more on the former, or at least have a higher density of dungeons and puzzles in that way. Majora's Mask and Phantom Hourglass seem interesting to me because of the time aspect.

I have a love-hate relationship with Ocarina. Half the time I'm completely absorbed and can't put it down, the other half I hate the shit out of it and it really grates on me in every way. There are moments when you're exploring a dungeon and the world just clicks and feels right, but everything feels so slow and tedious. The combat is too simplistic but not in the same way 2D is. It feels more like a 2D formula forced into 3D, instead of Wind Waker or Twilight Princess where the game wouldn't work at all in 2D. I'm sure you could translate OoT over to Link to the Past's engine and not have to change too much.

I'm having a hard time between games. I really liked the first Phoenix Wright game but I know it's generally a one time playthrough. MH4U and ANCL seem really appealing for the amount of gametime/replayability.

IMO PWT>MH4U>AC in terms of how much I'd enjoy the average hour. If you want a game to last you though, get MH4U for sure. You can spend a whole year playing nothing but it if you wanted to get absolutely everything out of it. AC is decent but it's a dabble once a day thing, not really great to get as a game to sit and play. Phoenix Wright is essential IMO, the trilogy will take you 50ish hours (maybe 35 if you've already played the first, you can start any game in any order so there's no obligation to repeat the first) but it doesn't compare to the potential length of the other two.

It's been a year since I bought a refurbished Wii U, so my warranty is ending.

Is homebrew for the U any good? Don't get me wrong, I liked a lot of the Wii U's games, but the trend of full-priced games only and a lack of titles compared to, say, the 360 or PS3, makes me wish I could do more with it.

I am actually that dude and I'm not the only one to say that, Ken's Rage 2 isn't a game really worth mentioning, it's eShop only and the ports runs worse than the other versions.

The fact of the matter is is that while a lot of VC titles are dead air and could use trimming, DK64 along with Paper Mario are examples of a VC release that actually deserve to be noted. Metroid Fusion was made by the specialized VC dev group that work on all the high quality GBA releases, and games such as Earthbound/Beginnings and the DKC Trilogy have a much higher standard of rerelease on the VC vs titles such as Punch Out and Super Mario World which have documented bugs and delay issues that should be actually noted, not DK64 just because YOU don't like it.

The point of the VC section is for people that grew up liking the games listed or wanna experience them on their new systems could enjoy them and be aware of the selection, and if somebody enjoyed DK64 growing up then they're going to appreciate this much smoother rerelease a lot more. Also when K. Rool gets confirmed for Smash people are gonna need to know what his best role is. :^)

For one, it's a recommendation list, not a "best of list." It's a better reference than some random anon behind a keyboard, that's for sure. Obviously metacritic isn't definitive (The Japanese enjoyed Devil's Third despite the below average reception in the West) and just because a Wii U title has the highest metacritic score doesn't mean it's the best of the best, but you can clearly see a less-than-stellar trend of reception for some titles we recommend through that.

As it stands Game & Wario is literally our only recommended party game since Mario Party 10 gets trolled (despite being an improved, interesting MP with a few quirky innovations) and Amiibo Festival is getting slammed while nobody cared about it in the first place, so I'm guessing that ain't getting it's chance to shine either. 1st party trash is a classic troll coined by butthurt 3DS owners that don't like Nintendo games, and basically only play the system for Monster Hunter, SMT, and dungeon crawlers.

Sorry for messing with you, I'm guessing you're just new around these parts or don't come around often. On a serious note I can't speak for Yo-Kai (it seems like a monster catcher game which instead of being single monster turn-based, you control all six of your guys at once and in real time through a bottom screen wheel, and you befriend the monsters ala Shin Megami Texas) but the game has upwards of 20 hours play time, and 30 if the you do the main story and side quest shit. I dunno if there's any multiplayer like Pokemon so do a little research into.

There hasn't been any game as good as MH4U so far so you're either stuck with this, Zelda Tri-Force Heroes (which people here do own the game and ask to play on occasion) or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon which has about 17ish hours of playtime for beating the main story and is suppose to be the best one yet. Unfortunately the Japanese are enjoying Monster Hunter X right now, too.

I think there was that Majora's Mask remake too and Codename Steam if you didn't think that looked like complete shovelware.

Well, time to beat is one criteria, but no sense in having 200 hours of shallow gameplay. 30 hours for yo-kai seems too little though, considering I have about 600 hours of just the last Pokemon.

I actually beat PiT, but I was younger, so it took less to impress me.

I am guessing I just got bored of the formula. I haven't played an RPG in a very long time. I am trying to play HeartGold and just can't, it is so dull. I have to actually grind. I don't remember grinding when I was a kid.

I guess I'll try and pick BIS up again, if I can find it. I just assumed all the games went to shit, but everyone says it hasn't so maybe I'll like it.

I don't know what to play on my 3DS. I was going to play Love Plus Plus but I've been playing too many dating sims lately.

I've got $10.25 left on my eShop balance, and I'm deciding between three games.

I'm probably going to buy Punch Out for $2.49, then we have either:

SteamWorld Dig for $4.99
Cave Story for $7.50
Azure Striker Gunvolt for $7.50

Or I could say screw getting Punch Out, and blow it all on Inazuma 11, or 1001 Spikes for $10.

You're still really early in the game. Just take it slowly and fiddle with each new mechanic at your own pace. You can get through most of the game with the bare essentials.

Right now, I'd say focus on leveling up your combat arts. Don't worry about skill links yet, because those aren't especially useful until you have all of your party members.
