Reposting here. I'm looking to expand on my roleplay as an Old Rough Noir style Detective. What else could I do to make it more enjoyable?

I'm only using Laser Rifle. Laser Pistol and maybe Laser Scattergun. and Nicks clothes.
I got Nick as a Companion.
Might look into getting a Revolver or a Double Barrel Shotgun.
Got a fair bit of Charisma to talk to people better.

Also, is there a good ENB or Reshade out there to make the game darker and more gritty?

Well no, Danse sponsors you to become a Knight, since he's only allowed to grant ranks up to Initiate. You become a Paladin after the reactor quest (I think? somewhere around there), and become a Sentinel if you follow through and destroy the Institute with the Brotherhood. On the Minutemen route you're still just a Paladin, should you opt to leave them alive.

Played 3, NV and 4. Logged about 1000 hours in total.
Friend said the map was three times as big as NV. so I made the assumption that it was also just as detailed and quest filled.

Is there a good settlement guide somewhere? I know the basics, I don't need "hold v to bring up the overlay - components come from junk!", my questions are:

1) why does happiness matter
2) how do I get it to 100
3) does it matter how you trade link settlements? ie, daisy chain vs central hub with spokes
4) do settlers care about food variety, bed "quality", or just that it's there
5) does tasking certain or unique settlers (eg, Anne Hargraves on clothing store) to certain stores or activities bring unique or better items
6) from how high can settlement turrets hit ground targets (3rd floor? 4th floor?)
7) do settlers level up at their job or whatever
8) will enemies simply cease attacking a settlement for all time once defense is high enough?

Really bummed there are so few pre-made settlements in 4. Assuming you don't make any of your own it's just Diamond City, Goodneighbor, Covenant, Bunker Hill, and tiny things like The Slog and Graygarden. Diamond City and Goodneighbor are the only ones of those that have any substantial quests, but there's no Rivet City to Diamond City's 'Megaton' in this game. Unless Diamond City is supposed to make up for two major towns, but that would be lame.

I even liked Megaton more than Diamond City (it felt bigger, even if it wasn't, and more immersive), and there's no substitute for Rivet city, which was a cool concept to begin with, in addition to its maze-like structure and that one fucking guy at the bottom of the other end. That was a fun quest. There's also nothing like Freetown, Goodneighbor doesn't come close

I guess they had to sacrifice to allow the settlement building. I'd gladly give up settlement building altogether for a good big prebuilt city.

The thing is that even if you invest really heavily in the settlement-building, you can only really do something with a limited number of them, to the point that only one or two areas like Sanctuary or Starlight become decently-livable areas.

Hangman's Alley would be nice but it's a catastrophe to try and build in and NPCs can't figure out pathing, and Castle is nice as a concept but requires janky repairs to make the walls look decent.

Huh, I think more than highlight how bad FO3 is at this point (since that should be immediately (or at least right after leaving the vault) fucking obvious to anyone playing it who has any kind of standards whatsoever, even if they've never played a Fallout before) this serves to highlight what an effort they seem to have made to make Fallout 4 less of a fucking travesty. You still get attacked even with astronomically more defence than resources. Some settlements may be more prone than others, with about 40 each food and water produced at the Castle and nearly 300 defence I was attacked three times over the course of about an hour while autisming around there, a couple of times by raiders and once by a huge squad of heavily armed supermutants and hounds.

Sometimes, all I want to do is sit around at Sanctuary all day because I made it just too damn comfortable.
I've got my own personal penthouse suite, easy quick access to the ground floor built in such a way that you can't get up to it but it doesn't hurt to get down from it, a bar & lounge below, then two levels of resident accommodation which makes for good security.
There's a perimeter wall around the complex which is designed so enemies can't simply spawn inside the zone, gated extra gardening, shielded generator house and the tower has its unique "elevator shaft" style power network so every room can have access to power systems in a fashionable, safe way.
The bar is fully stocked and there's a dress code for the security team, there's a planned dress code for the farmers and there'll be another dress code for anyone who has a different job.
People not following the dress code will be ones needing a job.

Its just too comfy. It's also incredibly expensive on the resources. Literally ALL the copper I get goes into it.

Might just be RNG. However, I've only ever had sanctuary attacked once (as far as I know) and they killed the raiders at Red Rocket before they actually reached Sanctuary because they spawned closer to the former.

Meanwhile Hangman's Alley is constantly under attack for me and I'm not sure how much of it is actual attacks and how much is the regular enemy spawns all over that place. But its location is also so well-fortified that shit never even gets close even without external turrets.

Has anyone else had a glitch where living enemy NPCs will seemingly ragdoll and be unable to do anything to fight you?

While I appreciate not having to slog through Saugus Ironworks to get an item I missed, it's been happening all over the place, and I'm hoping there's a fix.
