The problem with reading Japanese, even H games of course, is that there are a lot of unknown words. So, in the beginning, when you read VNs you'll need a texthooker to quickly look up words like pic related. It makes reading VNs much much much faster. It'll be awhile before you can read without having so little vocab you rely on such tools.

I haven't browsed this thread in a few months. It's slightly gone to shit what with all the idiots worshiping this translator it seems. Or idiots who don't seem to know a thing when it comes to actually translating a game, inserting text into it and making it workable, etc.

My experience with Junketsu has been that the name entry system has never worked with english alphabet characters; it only recognizes hiragana/katakana/kanji names. If you try to enter romaji in any way, it just defaults to Yutaka's name, and I don't know have the expertise to get around this. Provided you can enter Japanese text (and know the right kana for your name) you can enter it that way, but that's about as immersive as I've found you can get. This was tested on Windows 8 with the default, unpatched, version of Junketsu. I THINK Lune made a patch for something with the game, but I don't remember what it was (and I doubt it was for romanji support).

Considering VNR's ITH is only purpose is for adding spaces between words it makes me wonder if there's something that can be done to circumvent VNR completely and just make it so you only needed just ITH but I don't know what would be required for that considering there aren't any options in ITH to add spaces. Getting gud at Japanese requires a similar degree of time investment and effort as getting a Bachelor's degree in an average field. So, with 5-6 hours studying a day it will take about 3 years. Most of that time will be spent picking up new vocab, so you will be able to read much earlier with a text hooker or just looking up words.
You can even start reading in a few months, but you will just delude yourself into understanding the text, as you will misunderstand half the sentences at that point.
