I don't play CS, TF2, COD, or really any major multiplayer shooters but I had a lot of fun last weekend. I can definitely see what people are talking about with the lag compensation/20 ticker servers since I experienced it as well.

The only thing is, I have no idea what a "good" tick rate is since I don't have much experience in other games. So what is it? 25? 30? Just how low is 20?

tick rate should be, and always should be, AT LEAST the same as the average user's frame rate. Most people will probably be playing Overwatch at 60 FPS, which means there is no real reason to want 20 tick over 60. If the tick rate is at least the same as your frame rate, than you're seeing a much more accurate representation of the game.

The fairness argument is dumb, because everyone playing at 64 is just as fair as everyone playing at 20 (if not more). People getting 20 FPS in Overwatch will still be disadvantaged hugely anyways, it just means people playing at 60 FPS will have an inaccurate representation of the game on their screen.

In a perfect world every game would be 128 tick, but optimally Overwatch should just be 64. The ONLY reason Blizzard is doing any less, is to save money on servers.

Realistically, hitscan weapons should NEVER cause a kill trade. If I fire before you, then you should die and not kill me. However, a low tickrate enables both players to die at the same time. Did you win the firefight and shoot first, or did you shoot second? You don't know, it's impossible with a low tickrate.

It also goes to show that CSGO pros complain about tickrate as well, it's not just a shitty excuse for poor gameplay. It affects everyone evenly, but it does not show skill.

I'm not memeing either, this is legitimately why they're doing the beta.

I wouldn't be surprised if 20 tick rate is their lowest point, and they'll just raise it until people are happy. That way they look good for fixing it, and find out the minimum people want to save dosh.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't fix it either. Since the FOV still isn't 90, and I personally think online shooters should be able to be played at 120 if so desired.

The game is closer to finished than any fucking recently released game by blizzard. HOTS, nearly a year later, still doesn't have a functioning match making system and it took them JUST NOW to figure out that snowballing early game and being 20% stronger in early levels as well as res zerging early in the game is a huge issue. This shit was complained about and told to them during early as fuck stages of beta and they completely ignored it.

I've beta tested tons of games, and tons have released in basically alpha states, this game is basically far enough along that you could call it patch 2.3 for a normal fucking game.

Even if it's not ready for actual release, it should at least be in open beta, if not pre-order access granting beta for how far along it is in it's dev cycle. A game this close to being finished does not belong in closed beta, especially not for nearly SIX more fucking months.

Blizzard are being complete cunts about not letting people play it and I'm fucking mad.

After playing it this weekend I have to say I am astounded that it's still SIX months away from release. In the state the game is in now it at least needs to have preorder beta access going.

That's really why they need actual players in the game now, they need the data and feedback to be able to properly tweak characters, abilities, and maps. Overall that was the only real thing I saw wrong with the game, it only needs a few little changes here and there and it's good to go.

Just stating the facts m8, as I said deal with it or leave the game, no matter how hard you rage it's not going to change unless you bring your own teammates, if you enjoyed playing with someone ask them for their ID, add them to your contacts and keep playing with them. There's also a bunch of people here sharing their conacts hoping to get decent partners rather than random weekend hearthstone players. This kind of thing as natural to me as "playing the right way" seems to be to you, but sometimes people just expect everyone to think the same way as them so they end up frustrated like you and rate the experience as negative when they didn't even try to improve it.

The voice acting and writing in this game is HORRIBLE.

I hated it the first hour, I closed it and told my friends how dissapointed I was. I cam back just to have no remorse, tried out more characters, and instantly fell in love with some of them when I could dominate people in new ways I've never experienced in a fps before.

After spending like 40 hours during the test I didn't feel that amazing anymore, but I still wanted to keep playing and try out different shit with characters I didn't play much.

I think the game is worth the $40 easily for the level of product you're getting, I'm only concerned about the microtransactions taking away any sense of reward from the game. But such are the times, we can't have good games without a greedy dev, every single move is made to maximize their income as much as possible.

i was really hyped when a friend with the beta lend me his account, i tried some matches with the heroes i wanted to play the most just to die over and over for the most stupid shit, i thought i was either getting retarded at fps or just didnt had enough gamesense yet to start enjoying myself

tried different heroes, learned the way they have to be played and i fell in love with the game, getting the play of the game some times did help a lot as well, after a while the scores went from 10-12 to 27-1
