(the AI is really dumbed down and boring in the lower difficulties, and since most people are already at endgame, it's difficult to find people to play with early on)
do note that it costs real money to fix any skill tree fuckups, so be careful

Watch some of the newer gameplay videos (upload date on youtube) and decide for yourself.
Generally the game does have pretty good combat flow and a good variety of weapontypes, attacks, decent variety of builds of gimmick builds. You won't get any DmC tier euphoria out of it, though, and anything 12 man (max amount some quests can have) is basically easymode. Game isn't very hard in general, no matter the difficulty, only Ult comes close to requiring reflexes.

Early game is hardly a grind these days.

Join any scheduled emergency quest that happens and you'll be level 20 by the end of 30 minutes.

They also hand out multiple EXP tickets as login rewards, a single ticket getting you from level 1 to 10 instantly.

Yes, both mobs and bosses are a lot more fun than Vindictus. Some mobs at least. Like they're actually capable of being a threat. Bosses are roflstomped by big multi-parties but are plenty fun if you wanna challenge yourself by going with less. And even in the former scenario, a lot of them still take quite a while to bring down. Superbosses like Dark Falz Luther, Magatsu trio and Profound Darkness are hella fun, Luther's one of my favorite bosses in all vidya. Lesser, but still big bosses also appear at random in missions.

Also it has the most satisfactory and affordable fashion options you'll ever see in an MMO. Cool robot armor, space-age clothing, bodysuits, every single weeb fetishwear ever (bunnygirl, maid, nurse, sukumizu, etc), most of which for the price of half an hour of work.

And besides the superbosses there's a lot of EQs that are fun to do, especially with a Team (guild).

A big downside is magic is hella boring, but I'm always melee anyway.

Also the grinding isn't so bad, this coming from someone who has capped in no other MMOs.

Many series are available through a very slow but eventually guaranteed by farming certain quests. The problem is that for various reasons they aren't very efficient without a full MPA (Ultimate) or if you have no idea what you're actually doing (Challenge).

The Yozakura series is available for Gold Weapons Badges but you'll need 300 and the most lucrative way of getting those is well behind us now.

Easiest bet is probably the "Dark Image" a.k.a. skull series for Kuron's Chandra stones. Level 75 enemies, much more manageable in smaller groups or solo, especially with the right gear. But it's not a complete series of all 17 weapon categories so you might end up stuck with something you don't really want.

Alternatively, you could go for any number of more easily obtained 12* weapons, or invest in crafting and unlock the potential on a 7* Red Weapon

For Shifta, It makes a difference, but arguably not a big enough difference to justify spending the full 10 points. You'll get more out of it just for yourself from T-ATK Up, although, overall there would still be more to gain from Shifta Advance applied to a whole party or multi party instead.

Deband Advance isn't worth it except to get to Deband Cut. And even then that's not necessarily something you'll want to invest points in either depending on how you're building.

Hunter can use any weapons provided the given model has Hunter usability. Hunter needs to sub a class that has this weapon as native one to use the PAs though, and weapons are mostly useless without PAs.

All classes have access to weapon category called "Gunslash" originally introduced in Phantasy Star Zero that is a hybrid melee and ranged weapon.

The big deal nowadays is "Excubes" which you trade in 10 or 11 star rarity weapons in for. Excubes are a currency item you can spend for things like grinding success rates and ability success rates for your weapons/units. And some other useful things.

Yeah, not really that good in "endgame", maybe if you "extend" them, but still there are better alternatives for that "extending" thing.

Yeah, with a single key press, or even with a single button press if you set up your gamepad properly.
You change "palettes" not exactly weapons though, but those palettes have a weapon and a set of 3 weapon attacks (PA) each you can set up.

All classes can use "gunslashes" that are like a mix of a gun and a saber in the same weapon (think FFVIII), and they can do both melee and shooting attacks. They can be good, but kinda tricky to use properly.
Hunters can also use partisans and wired lances, and also whatever weapons your sub can use, so if you sub FI (most common for HU main) you'll get to use FI weapons as well.

Photon drops, crystals and spheres are sort of a common currency but they're kinda secondary at this point, they come really easy later and you can buy them off other players from player shops, on so don't worry too much about them.

Exactly.
It's really good if you want to use Hunter weapons mainly, with the added benefit of being able to use Fighter weapons as well. You can reverse that (main FI, sub HU) and get a HUGE boost to melee at the cost of survivability.
There are other melee options like Braver and Bouncer, but they're better used with their own weapons (katana and dual blades/jet boots) for the most part.
HU/FI is great as a starting point, and to keep using it should you want to.

I will most likely go with a male Cast since I played several years of HUmar back in PSO but never had the will to reroll Cast, I'm also guessing like in any popular mmo right now the ratio male/female for items is fucked and as a new player it's a lot better to play male since things will be cheaper.
