Speaking of Steel Ocean, does anyone have tips for playing carriers? Torpedo bombers deal shitloads of damage but they seem real hard to use since they have to be so precise on their approach.

Drop where they are going to be. Torpedos are much faster than your planes at tier 3/4 while in the water. Its disconcerting. It gets better at higher tiers.

Learn how early you can give new orders to torp bombers without them having to circle back around.
The angle you will just get used to unless you are a sperg and want to do math
They get better with rank 5 planes since they can be in wings of 4 and have a wider spread.
Dive bombers are more accurate the longer they have to aim after an order. Use them for slow ships or get good at guessing straight path guys.
Don't send planes after ships that are not distracted. AA is too stronk. A distracted ship won't always switch to AA or move to avoid.
Lower the number of scouts or fighters that you bring if you plan to lose lots of planes.
Always send scouts out in wings of 1. Use them to scout choke points, initial fleet dispersion, and late game scouting when your scout ships die.
Some CVs can out shoot a DD.

Coming from being a heavy player in WoT it doesn't really surprise me that a lot of the players who just go for the biggest ships can't manage to grasp tactics more complex than 'sit flat broadside to the enemy until I die'.
I can understand in on some ships, stuff like the Amagi for example, but on BBs that actually have armor I get pretty sad when I see them hanging back behind me. Especially on the Nagato, she has such great armor, about the only secondaries worth anything for their tier, and the guns will disintegrate anything that gets close. And people don't seem to realize how agile it is if you're not trying to turn into a torp spread/gun salvo from a flat broadside, just keeping your front toward the enemy and fishtailing to fire you rear guns means you're surprisingly invulnerable to anything that doesn't out-tier you.
Although I am glad for the shitty BB players in every game, they're great damage sponges to farm most of my XP on.

Even if it's incredibly frustrating to dive in and get abandoned by the BBs and CAs that were right next to you a minute ago, I still do it every time since it's far more exciting to die in a blaze of glory than hide with them at the blue line or behind an island. Plus it generally puts me near the top of the scoreboard with the combined secondary damage and easy citpens. Nothing feels better though than when you luck out and someone on your team is willing to ride alongside you into the shit and come out on top.

Situational Awareness is worthless on a BB. The answer to "Are you spotted" is always going to be "Yes". Fire Prevention is also so marginal it isn't worth the 2 points for it since it's multiplicative not additive.

Why, If there is a DD on the map always assume it's following you

It's not like you can act upon it just from a "Detected" unless you are able to use the terrain to gauge an approximation as to where said DD is coming from. 9 times out of 10 it's going to end up you are spotted by the cruiser on the other edge of the map because "lol 20km detectability range"

It is substantially better to simply watch for smoke or any other signs of a DD in the water.
