It depends on your settings for how it makes a new layer.
If you use an additive formula, I forget what it's called, it layers the images on top of each other without doing a full replacement
This means every new layer is literally just one little white letter, and 99% transparent space. Some layers also contain black to smother the old letters when you go to a new "page" in the dialogue
Constantly replacing the whole image on every layer would probably take up a lot more space than what I've attempted to explain.

Sans didn't bother having more than 1 ATK or HP. Also, I'm sure if Papyrus were to be part of the royal guard he'd have to kill something. Plus, he has armor (of sorts), natural HP and I'm sure he gained HP and physical strength over time as he grew.

Nah, I thought the "Genocide" ending was a little heavy-handed in that regard. Is there no room for a Frisk who just doesn't trust any of the monsters and wants to get home with xer life in tact? Sans can have his little pity party and call me a "brother killer" but the fact is I killed someone who said he was going to capture me and bring me to the Monster King whom Toriel had warned me was certainly going to kill me.

I don't think any person would honestly behave the way Frisk does in a pacifist run. Unless you have no regard for your own safety and are very principled about non-violence, or very gullible and stupid, it just makes no sense.

I wouldn't nitpick about this but people praise the writing in the game, when the only reason Frisk's character makes sense at all is because you know there are no consequences and it's just a video game. I guess in a way you can tie this to Frisk having "determination" but that also kind of cheapens the force of any and all of xer choices.
