/ywg/ - Yokai Watch General #4

Instead of studying for exams, I was finishing the main story of Yokai Watch. I don't regret it, but I'm amazed at how much purifying they make you go through in those final stretches. Ended up with 10k EXP from the final boss, and I have a sneaking suspicion that around half of that was from all the purifying I did.

E-ranks/D-ranks are hard to work with, but it's not impossible. There is eventually an item that boosts 2 of their stats by 30 that are usable by E/D ranks only. Preferrably you want at least B-ranks by the end of the main story, though you could use yo-kai like Jibanyan through the end.

But god helps you if you start the post-game.

I think I have come up with a perfect plan to stop yo-kai from wasting turns at all.

Beetall/Cruncha to prevent loafing
Wazzat to prevent guarding
Therefore, all a yo-kai can do is attack attack attack.
Thoughts on this?

Okay, so in general, is it better to give yokai books that focus on one stat? Like, if I'm making a physical attacker, should I just give it a book that levels nothing but STR? In a similar vein, would I want them to do nothing but attack? Or is it just a case-by-case judgement depending on the yokai in question?

for catching low level yokai do you just have to bring shitty ones along so they dont one shot enemies before you can feed more than one?

if you want nothing but attack, go for rough from the start. A few can just start with focusing on one stat since speed is not a problem (most charming yo-kai), but others might be a case-by-case judgement depending on what stat growth you want and then what kind of job you want them to do after you get the stats in.

Her ability makes her dodgy, so she almost always evaded 1~2 of Snartle's swings. It meansw she's frequently able to toss her heals, SPD buff, or Soultimate. Slapping Mass Regen on your Tank and DPS is amazing for the Snartle fight.

there are lots of side quests, a lot, though there is a balance between decorative buildings and buidings to visit. Usually the important buildings/explorable buildings have color on the map, although you can still explore the nook and crans of yards/gardens and alleyways around the buildings if needed.
I'm not sure how much of that is expanded on the second game though.

I've noticed on the wiki that Komiger has two skills listed: Omega and Fist of Thunder. Can it have either one in YK1, or is one of them from YK2?

So I got Shadow Venoct from the crank-a-kai and it says that his inspirit lowers the likelyhood of the affected ally from being targeted. combined with his passive of not being targeted himself, is the AI smart enough to inspirit the right ally? As in, inspiriting more vulnerable yokai and leaving tanky yokai alone?

If you have two you can set them opposite to each other on the party wheel so there's always a healer out no matter what way you orient the party.

party composition is anything goes in the main story, as long as you have a healer or two. Post-game is when you'll probably have to rethink your team building strategy, though anything is possible.

E-D ranks are a little harder to work with though.

Thornyan is defensive, Baddinyan is offensive.
Thornyan is handy against oni fights if you can get him good defenses and guard constantly to reflect 1.5x damage done.
Baddinyan's got some good offense stats and his soultimate causes confusion.

Fusing Enerfly with Enefly nets you a handy BETTERFLY with strong heals.

Do lower rank yokai have any redeeming factors to be used late game? I'm post game now, and I just rearranged my team, but for a while, Jibanyan and Komasan were in my team, along with Frostia. Flipside was Cruncha, Goldenyan and Count Cavity, and I feel like they probably carried me through a lot of fights.

The game is completely different. The yokai do auto attack based on their personality and type, you are in charge of moving the wheel to decide who's out at what time, choosing when to do their special attacks, use items, and remove debuffs, the former and later through a micro game like system. befriending the yokai is more like the Dragon Quest Monsters system where you throw food at something until after the fight it likes you.

You still get the Popularity bonus even if the Yo-kai is in the back line right?

I fucking love this speeding up battles thing, I'm fighting another giant pig boss in the Inferno and I've almost completely left the game to run itself while my yokai heal themselves.

Is it typically better to just fuse a higher-rank yokai than continue with a low-rank one?

Do levels/stats carry over at all when you fuse? Meaning, is there any difference between fusing at level 1 or at level 20?
