How accurate is this? And how much do the differences matter from say #1 to #20? Looking at the bars it seems like there's a big difference but looking at the numbers +/-5000 DPS doesn't really seem that significant. I want to level a DPS class and I'm just not sure if I should go for what's optimal or what I actually want to play.

how would I explain or justify tinkers being added to the game? tinkers aren't mechanical geniuses like engineers, they're more like soldiers.

tinkers are a class choice because they dedicate their class role to the wielding, maintenance and piloting of weaponry built exactly to their race's / authority's specifications. they could be a hero class or a regular class, with their starting zone being some kind of academy where they earn their licenses.

they'd be a tank and 2x rdps spec:
tank would be piloting goblin shredders, siege tanks or some kind of equivalent, focused on absorption shield
one of the dps would be gun-wielding soldier, which fired explosives, tasers, landmines etc. different from hunter in that they have no mobility and must stand still to cast, instead they get lots of knockback / cc
other dps would be gyrocopter pilot, or any other kind of small light vehicle outfitted with weapons
