you can actually play a healer its just not mandatory or "meta". HOWEVER in say fractals 100 now, if say one person rolls a cleric druid or cleric guardian with the trait setup that maximizes party healing and that person is ACTUALLY GOOD at doing it, THIS IS IMPORTANT, the difference between that and everyone in full offense gear going ham is like no more than 5% slower but the content is 90% easier if 1 person actually does it with 4 people in full on theoretical dps builds. HOWEVER this does not absolve those guys in glass cannon from being good either, it still boils down to proper understanding and game mechanics.

To also further prove the capabilities of the healer, The Sickest Guild aka the first guild to down the first raid boss during beta testing used a clerics druid as a full on healer, you can speak to them for more information.

Again, Tanks and Healers are not mandatory or "meta in regards to the fastest way to do content" but using them can potentially secure you the best opportunity to do your first raid boss kills in a reasonable amount of time as proven by the sickest guild.

Mostly because it's not only about auras, but the boons that proc on aura share. Infinite protection (that negates damage by 40% rather than the normal 33%), infinite vigor/regen or fury/swiftness plus other possible boon shares and possible healing on aura share are what the support Tempest is actually about. Raid Designers have already stated you can no longer mitigate 100% of all damage in raids, this means after all dodges and blocks available in the game, you will take damage. The question you will be asking yourself is what is more efficient, everyone helping to take the small responsibility of rolling party healing abilities like blasting water fields to keep everyone up which will cause a DPS loss because YOU WILL have to roll healing into your overall performance rotation or having 1 person out of your 10 people take care of that responsibility for everyone with high healing power gear + the ability to control boss aggro because bosses in raids WILL aggro the player with the highest survivability stats, this has been stated and proven.

Putting it on just yourself would be good, but being able to pass them out to up to 5 people in an area is awesome. Think of it this way: projectile reflection is a must-have in many group play instances. Wall of Reflection and mesmer reflect is great, but conditional on the position of the enemy to the players. Magnetic aura is not conditional on position: everyone can be kinda scattered, or the enemy can be moving and everyone still benefits from magnetic aura.
There are a lot of little things like that that make Tempest one of the best support-types in the game. It may not do straight-up healing as well as Druid, say, but it does it's best work in MITIGATING damage rather than healing it after the fact.

Magnetic Aura is worse than Guard/Mesmer refects, because if an AoE projectile misses the guy with Mag Aura, it hits the ground and deals 100% of it's damage. The projectile literally cannot miss the Guard/Mes reflects if placed on the enemy.

I'm currently running this, although sometimes I exchange Fire for Arcane to get some sweet boon explosion action going, but the Fire-Trait that gives me might is also sweet.

I agree that mag aura doesn't have the full potntial of WoR. Just pointing out that it's not as dependent on getting eveyone in one place behind a stationary object. With the mobility of the new mobs and prevalence of aoe attavks in HoT, standing altogether in one place is kinda dangerous now (see chak gerent). Is it a lost cause trying to use a rifle on a warrior?
I really want to use a rifle, and engineer uses kits most of the time anyways.
I'm currently leveling a warrior with a rifle, but it feels like literally everything outplays it. I'm still having fun, but I dont want to get left behind too much in HoT content.

25 hero points are cake in maguma. Each skill point gives you 10 points, and while a fair bit of them are hard or impossible to solo, some are pretty easy. (and then there are a few that are behind mastery walls, but only a few)

I gave up on chakk gerrent. I spent a good week or two helping and leading that shit. Majority of gw2 don't have the brain capacity to follow simple mechanics or know what skills on the very own characters they play affect breakbar, etc.
