One other thing that pisses me off about this situation is that, beyond the whole "who fucked up in which ways" debate, the way the game currently ended just kinda doesn't work from a narrative/emotional standpoint.

A big part of playing the game the first time is, you get to learn of Asgore as this evil fucking monster. But the more you play, the more you realize he's a nice guy who is forced to kill children even though he doesn't want to. You feel bad about him, hope you won't have to kill him, and then the whole Flowey thing happens and you feel awful.

So that's your motivation for playing the game a second time: saving the monsters, and also not having to kill the King. And when you do a True Pacifist, what's your reward for that? Goatmom absolutely fucking shitting on the character that was seemingly made to give you motivation to replay the game in the first place, all in a scene that is supposed to be happy, about friends finding each others again?

I don't know, it just doesn't sit well with me. Everybody but Asgore gets a happy ending, even though Asgore is built up to be this dramatic character that you're hoping to save in some way. It wasn't even necessary - Toriel could still have been pissed off at him, sure, and they don't *need* to get back together, but she could have forgiven him, or at least not make him cry in front of your friends and refuse his apologies. (especially when you only need to think for 30 seconds to find reasons why she doesn't have a moral highground on the situation)

It just feels so fucking gratuitous, both from Toriel as a character, and from Toby as a writer.

I'm really on the fence about Soriel.

I admit I thought the whole"that voice ...!" thing was kind of romantic, and almost donned the shipping goggles myself.

And Undyne's "There're plenty of fish in the sea" line to Asgore is really oddly timed, since Sans and Toriel are side-by-side and all.

But I just don't really like Toriel as a character that much. For me to get into a ship I have to really like both characters, and while Toriel can be kind of cute I'm just "eh" about her.

I relate a lot to Toriel and I find Sans very charming, and they clearly get along swimmingly, so I don't see a lot of contradiction there. We only see her in mom mode, she has a life outside of that. She can pick up his slack and help him adopt good habits while he makes her laugh and helps raise Frisk.
