Patron beats Aggro Druid, Secret Paladin, and Dragon Priest unless they can lightbomb you. Freeze Mage is a toss up and highly depends on how well they can play the matchup, I won more than I lost against Freeze Mage.

The info is slightly outdated since I believe Nefarian starts with one less mana this go-around, but I think everything else is sound. Nefarian does seem pretty powerful, but it's by no means impossible to win with Ragnaros.

Yeah no, Nef is an aggro deck with a lot of mana. Rag is the control.
And it's still early game even if Nef has 4 mana. It's actually insane early game since you get free 5 attack minions, a 6 damage 6/3 battlecry minion and 2 mana 6/6 taunts, and gain armor and draw two cards for 3. Should be more than enough to stall into things like living bomb and brawl to stabilize.
Unless Nef drops that one dragon that makes everything really cheap. Then you're just fucked.

I finally gave in and started playing this fucking game this past week. I spent ~700 gold on Arena after leveling up all the classes to 10 and followed the heartharena suggestions for cards and the most I could get was 4 wins. Is following their card suggestions bad or do I just need to git gud? Or probably both?

Both, really. The online suggestion systems are designed to go for a "perfect" deck, but no Arena deck is "perfect." You need to get a grasp of the bulk of the cards in Hearthstone and how they fit with each other and figure out Arena picks yourself if you want to get more than 6 wins, outside of Paladin.

Impossible. New card releases are the best time in this game, it's the only time anyone ever plays meme decks for a change. It's the only time streams are actually watchable for the (considerably short) time people are "trying new ideas".

This game really makes me sad sometimes because my favorite part of strategy card games is theorycrafting and figuring out creative ways to make different cards work. You can only really do that within a few weeks, maybe a month tops after a new set is released.

If you want cards for play and ranked, do the first wing of Black Rock and all the wings of Naxxramus. Adventure AIs can be beaten with just about every deck. The Heroic versions require specific decks, but the normals don't and give you cards. Go for it. New Adventure out tomorrow, btw.
