How do I into trade in euIV?
I had a merchant and over 60% of the total trade power in every single node from Bangladesh to the English Channel as well as North America and the Caribbean but with the costs of those forts and the huge fleets required to maintain dominance I was barely making +20 a month.
Is there a better way to do it now? I remember a while ago through controlling North and South America alone Spain could bring in thousands a month in trade income.

I'm assuming it was done for balance purposes (each state has a limit of civilian, naval and military factories it can have so having one state instead of six reduces the number of factories especially as New England isn't overly populous) and the in-game states don't actually respond to real world states in their purpose or creation or anything anyway aside from being equivalent hierarchical markers so I don't actually give a shit that some states were merged (desu didn't even notice WV was missing) but BUT THE FUCK are some states outlines red and others blue, green, yellow or orange? I'm having trouble understanding army composition in CK2. When I started, the friend that recommended the game told me to just stack LI/Archer retinues and pay attention to defensive bonuses. However I just lost a fight with superior numbers, 3 20-23 leaders, and being on the defensive by a landslide. After that I did more research into how army composition works, but everyone seems to have a wildly different opinion on it. Given that I'm Norse with Housecarl cultural building, am I correct in assuming a mix of skirmish and housecarl retinues would work best for me?

Also, something I couldn't find a recent/relevant answer on, is there any way to convert an enemy character/country's religion? I want to conquer the Christians, but I want to make Ireland into my own pet nation, and keep them around. This would make a lot more sense thematically if I could somehow convert them to Germanic Paganism.

Like the post says, I just lost a battle with everything in my favor by quite a bit, aside from army composition. At least I assume, because that's the factor in combat I was told to ignore. I get that losing battles happens, but when battles like these happen more than once, you have to assume something's incorrect about the way you're playing. The Battle of Cannae should not be an often reproduction.

Don't know how to feel about the modifiers. I guess I think they might be a case of negative railroading? Historically people came to the USA the most because of the massive and constantly expanding industry, better salaries than in Europe, and promise of all the land they could ever want/need without any feudal obligations (Austria, Russia, Ottomans all remained psuedo feudal and landed aristocracy remained important in all other countries as well).

I feel like modeling all those and then, for those that are fulfilled, giving US immigrant attraction events/decisions would be a better thing than going backwards from the initial position being "well the US will receive the most immigrants)

So how do you actually get in colonial range of Africa before it's all gone from South America, if you're not playing Brazil or maybe Venezuela?

By the time I can get a port upgraded enough, the only provinces left are only still there because the dark continent isn't researchable yet.

Biggest problem as a player I find in playing in SA is that you'll mostly have negative mil and con, so you're never passing reforms and the USA pretty much suck them all up. Uruguay usually tends to get a lot of immigrants though, as does Argentina at some points, Canada, but the never get close enough to their historical demographics

The trick to democratising a country in the Americas is never pass any reforms, eventually people will get pissed off enough to form Jacobins and then you'll get the vast majority of the reforms at once, plus you'll be a democracy, plus your pops will still be angry from the revolution so you'll be able to enact the last few reforms. It's well worth the prestige hit for all those sweet poles.

Do you remember if you were lagging up on tech? The biggest flaw of the game is that tech system has this anti-synergy where investing in idea groups leads to you inevitably lagging behind in the actual tech progression. That means investing heavily in military idea groups inevitably lead to your military becoming outdated unless you know what you're doing.

Generals shouldn't be "recruitable", you should just always have a constant number of generals available whole quality is largely dependent on things such as military tradition. I'm currently working on converting my CK2 game to EU4. I'm done fixing up the borders for the most part (I need to convert some of the Muslim and Indian countries to their vanilla tags), now I am just finishing up religions and cultures. However, I've run into a problem while using the Clausewitz Scenario Editor. I hadn't had any problems until now, after which whenever I try to change religion of a province it becomes noreligion. I've checked spelling and spacing and they are the exact same as any other provinces that are fine, yet for some reason they are coming up as noreligion. Any fixes?

So I fucked around a bit and found out that they've had these 28 regiments under construction for decades because for some reason the AI for their automatic stockpile purchases thought that they didn't need anything at all so their AI never bought anything.

I manually set the stockpile purchases and it worked just fine.

The worst thing is that this isn't just affecting the SGF. Several other countries are fucked too, including the CSA.

It seems like something is breaking anytime a country gets released or is formed, but it only happens sometimes because the NGF is working fine.

What's breaking and how do I fix it? Using HPM to clarify.

For probably my final addition to the minimod I wanted to make the Radical Reconstruction more dynamic so that there are different paths the US can go down after the Civil War. I added to the current Radical Reconstruction decision so that when it is enacted it adds Afro-American as an accepted culture and removes Dixie. Then it gives every province with a CSA core a Reconstruction Policies modifier which keeps down militancy, raises consciousness, and increases assimilation for 7 years. After the modifiers disappear an event fires and it gives the US 3 choices.

The first choice keeps Afro-American as accepted culture, the CSA cores stay there, and the Reconstruction Policy modifiers stay gone. The second choice removes Afro-American as accepted, all CSA cores disappear, and the Reconstruction Policies modifier continues for another 7 years totaling 14 years (historical Reconstruction Era). The third choice removes Afro-American as accepted, adds Dixie as accepted, and removes all CSA cores.

I think that this may be one of the last additions I'm gonna make to this mod before doing a test run and then packing it up for release.
