Noldor tournaments are only hosted the 1st day of every month and they have a slim change to reward you with a qualis gem. The other way is to capture a shitload of "lolsnowball" parties lords and ransom them for a qualis gem.

Lots of problems with that as well: First it is RNG that they even spawn. Secondly you generally need to herd them to a marshalled group of Lords and pray that they aren't dumb enough to flee, and lastly there is RNG in simply capturing the Lord.

Any Qualis Gem plan that uses more than the two freebie ones is the king of ultimate grinds. And if he has been playing in this fashion it is no wonder he is constantly complaining about a grind. He is forcing it on himself.

Technically possible going from the wiki. But I have never had it drop from Demonic Armies and I always have a 10 looting companion. Not to mention that Demonic Magnus themselves are a unique spawn in massive heretic armies.

So basically you have the same exact scenario as unique spawn hero ransoming except you cannot even maximize capture chance with prison management. Looting is great for maximizing monetary gains it will not let you reliably get specific rare item drops.

So here's a confession.

I like playing the game on the easiest settings. I like building a small warband and destroying much larger armies.

I like being able to defend a siege with minimal losses. I like winning a siege with minimal attrition.

I also play with auto blocking and auto positional attack direction. And I like it. Why? Because it's easy and fun.

So there's that.

there's an item flag called offset_musket that's used in WFAS and NW for non bayonetted muskets to flip them over so you can bludgeon people with the butt of the gun, same thing with pistols in WFAS
it just flips the model on the X axis by 180

I know you're right. But it feels pretty satisfying cutting down a horde of npc's and watching your men make is through the fight as well.

I don't like the directional blocking and attacking. I can't twitch play well so it usually just ends in frustration.

The difficulty setting I like because I keep the same soldiers. I run anywhere between 75-150 warband. And it stays at that number for most of my play through. I rarely see my guys fall in combat, but when they do it feels meaningful. Like that soldier fought like hell before he finally was overwhelmed and died hard and well.

I think I have just become so accustomed to this style of play that I have a hard time wanting to force myself to learn advanced systems or tactics.

I play on max difficulty now. It's harder, so I just set different goals. I don't worry about winning every battle and becoming emperor (although I have done that in Swedish Mayo by exploiting troop imbalances). It's a lot more satisfying to play on a harder setting though, at least try it once.

no the throw_ flag changes how the thrown weapon is held, flies in the air, and how it's flipped when switched to melee
so the javelin automatically flips over, and the rest don't do anything when you switch to melee in terms of changing
but the throw_javelin and throw_stone flag causes the projectile to fly straight but the throw_stone flag makes projectiles not embed, while throw_axe and throw_knife cause the projectile to flip in flight but act differently when they land

maybe, only people who added new item flags were the WFAS guys and i imagine they had source code for the whole game

The screenshot I showed is the result of me just randomly assigning a name to agents in the scene when the battle begins. I've written lots of code to instead have all the details like names generated as soon as you recruit and then stored persistently, but it's full of bugs right now that'll take some time to sort out. When those are sorted out and everything is being stored correctly, it will be relatively easy to move on to letting the player see that information. Total info to be held on each troop includes:

>Origin (where recruited from or where saved near if rescued prisoner)
>Length of time in service
>Total kills + knock outs
>Number of times wounded in battle
>If killed: what battle they were killed in (siege or field battle, against which party, what date, what location), which troop type killed them with which weapon and how many enemies they took down first
>Weapons/armour they've looted from enemies that they personally took down in battle (will use in future battles if better than current equipment, will have option to toggle this off if you don't want them using random stuff)

That's actually a pretty interesting idea and now I definitely want to do something along those lines. There was an attempt in Tocans to have regular troops upgradeable to heroes but there's a huge issue with it using the standard upgrade mechanic which is that it's not possible to have more than one of a specific hero troop, so after you've got one, further upgrade attempts just make the troop disappear. Would be quite doable though to have some event trigger one of the troops being replaced with a companion that has all their details. Fuck, I'm keen for this now.

I like it. You could have your Hero cavalry guy, bow guy, spear guy. Not that I don't enjoy the companions but being able to watch a soldier rise through the ranks and become a general in my army would be fantastic. Especially if I had the option to choose and promote that soldier myself.

I'd say just start with what your comfortable with and build on it from there. I think this could be a great thing though.

Hah, god no. If you haven't gotten into the module system, then basically what you need to know is that objects in the game (which include, parties, troops, agents in scenes, etc) each have an array where you can store information. For parties for example, there are slots in the array dedicated to things like the party's faction. Only a few hundred slots are used by the native game but there's actually over a million available. I'm using that to store all the info, then when a battle starts I'm copying it over to the slots of each agent. As the battle goes on and stuff happens I can update the agent's info and then at the end I can copy the new info back into the party slots.

Yep. The main advantage of Black Knights is their superior army and that that autoresolve goes in their favor due to bloated troop levels.

The first isn't a big issue if you; and your troops, are using competent weapons against high armor enemies.

The latter is actually a disadvantage longterm as they will tend to have smaller armies once they lose their initial forces.

I haven't even started on handling upgrades and troops being moved in and out of garrisons and I expect those to be headaches.

I'm all for it. Needs the passage of time to be sped up quite a bit though, imo it'd be best accomplished by just having FAR bigger maps that take weeks to traverse, but with you being able to speed time up massively when you travel (so much more time in game passes sped up with you speeding through days or weeks at a time travelling from place to place). Making the map way larger would be great just for the sake of having kingdoms actually feel like kingdoms as opposed to neighbourhoods and it would mean that when the player ISN'T speeding up time, the state of the world would change much more slowly and you wouldn't hear news of kingdoms being conquered in the time it takes you to get fuck up a few bandits. SO many aspects of the game would seem less ridiculous and the experience would be greatly improved if they just scaled up the size appropriately.

Everything is being stored in party slots and I've used binary operations to condense as much information into as few slots as possible. There can be over 100,000 individual troops in the game with all of the data stored in the slots of a single inactive party spawned for the some purpose of storing it and with the player party having a list of pointers to the data that can be used to retrieve any details on any particular entry.

If you have source code then absolutely. I'm building it entirely with the modmerger framework that lets you make separate files containing the additional scripts and whatnot along with code to make changes to pre-existing ones and then run modmerger to put it all together. 100% of my work is stored in those separate files, so you can just add them to the source code of whatever mod and tell modmerger to integrate it. It's not guaranteed that there won't be bugs from some unforeseen compatibility issues but I'm making it as easy as possible.

I've had lots of questions since I began, but I guess the biggest question I have right now is what does this shield taunt ability do? I hold down the button and some guys bang their spears or swords or whatever on their shield; is that it? It just makes noise? From what I learned, there were other skills you could also get, like the ability to berserk, and I'm gonna feel a little gypped if I just got a useless shield drum when I could have gotten an actual useful ability instead.

It says it makes them tougher and faster, or something, but there's no feedback or noticeable difference, and I don't know if it only works while they're drumming, or if I have to hold it a certain time for it to take effect, or if it actually does nothing at all

Well I'm level 30 something now and haven't gotten any new abilities since ~15, when I got shield taunt. What little info I found told me that around 13-15 you get an ability dependent on your skills, and that's just the one you get for your whole playthrough. I guess I got shield drum instead of berserk.

berserk makes you hit harder and swing faster, you can only have one of these special perks and you get them after you max the required skills if i remember right, so for berserk you need maxed powerstrike, ironflesh, and maybe power throw?

I always find it funny how Europe more or less forgot that plate and pikes existed after Antiquity. Even granted that making steel plate was a pain, it's striking to me that the impetus to make really long spears -especially after they were put to such effective use in as famous a campaign as Alexander's- died away.
Bronze Age and Renaissance we see people in breastplates with pikes, but not in-between.

I guess I'll chalk it up to field battles simply being much less of a thing IRL once the Middle Ages got rolling.

I'd say the biggest pitfall I found is that like many other mods, it pays more attention to player equipment and unit types rather than the bigger picture of the overall strategic game. The map is huge and mostly empty of bandits, caravans, roads, or points of interest. Like other people noted, the lack of farmer parties really makes the map feel very dead. There's nothing for bandits to prey on, and no low-mid tier encounters to be had - it's mostly just high level lord battle stuff.

Cities and villages tend to be clumped together, leaving large dead zone patches areas where absolutely no traffic happens because of the way M&B works. There's not much in the way of roaming parties that interact in meaningful ways.

Don't know if it's been changed, but it inflates battle sizes to pretty ridiculous levels and makes things pretty exaggerated to a cartoonish degree - it adds incredibly powerful faction-specific super units which the AI cannot get. It also adds a bunch of different OSP armours that IMO clash with the overall look of the vanilla equipment.

I mean, if you want a more anime or super-heroic Sengoku experience it might be what you want, but part of the reason I prefer vanilla is that it doesn't rely on gimmicky troop trees, weird OSPs, or strange mechanics - it just has this very unified sort of Akira Kurosawa aesthetic to it and a very good level of balance.

-there are "plots" that'll lead you through the game for Poles, Cossacs and Ruskies, to do one of them you need to get a specific NPC companion, creating your own faction is not a viable option

-you can create wagon fort anywhere from your camp menu
-to get the best gear and troops you need to be a part of a faction
-mercenaries in merc camps can be custom equipped by talking to camp leader, it affects all the units from that camp
