I get the sense that their attitude toward AST is kind of the same as what they're saying about PLD, where the main reason that each class gets left out ultimately just boils down to the DPS they're putting out, and they'd sort of rather just let those classes kind of suck for this whole round of endgame and make the next raid tier less DPS-focused, than to make them all equally good at DPS because that's the only important thing right now.

I'm not necessarily saying that I agree with that, but I think that's why they're taking the approach that they are.

Whichever one has the playstyle you prefer.
WAR: lots of damage out, lots of damage in, selfheals and HP buffs.
DRK: "balanced" tank, middling damage output, excels at mitigating magic damage.
PLD: lowest damage output, has a shield that lets it handle lots of small enemies with physical damage well. Focus on physical mitigation, doesn't do so well with magic.
