Why isn't Greco-Roman mythology more prevalent in SMT? I mean I know there are some things like Cerberus but there is more of an emphasis on Christianity (understandable given the themes in the franchise), and Hindu/Buddhist and Japanese mythologies.

Is this mostly because of cultural differences? Where as a westerner I place more importance on Greco-Roman mythology? I'd like to see the Olympians have a greater role.

Persona 1 is really beginning to irritate me
I hate the card system and how it puts out personas well above your level, I hate the slow UI, I hate the voice acting, I hate the boring negotiations and I hate how the music doesn't match the tone but the battle system and dungeon graphics are nice. I really wish they polished the systems more in the remake and sequels, there's a lot of interesting ideas in here

All-in-all, this series seems really cool. The battle system isn't tied down much, and there's plenty of depth with your party makeup. After the Neutral Route, what game comes next for someone sampling the series?

Strange Journey doesnt have the same battle system but it has demon party recluitment.

Nocturne is very close to SMT IV.

I'm a big SMT fan that decided to finally play Persona.
Finished P3FES and despite all its faults it was pretty decent for a spinoff. Nothin' too flashy in terms of combat, storyline had many flaws but was overall enjoyable, etc. Solid 7/10 spinoff
I just finished vanilla P4 as well and it was so fuckin' stupid and underwhelming that I can't even.Could somebody explain to me the appeal of Persona 4? What I experienced was a very predictable plot. Every once in a while you save someone, rinse repeat. All main characters showed they were main right from the first moment they appeared, so nothin' surprising there.
It ended in a 'lel so random' way, and along the way it had absolutely nothing SMT ralated in it at all, unlike P3. Some demon designs were bad, dungeons were super bland (same with P3 actually, but at least P3 had interesting fullmoon environments alongside those shitty dungeons)
Social links were boring and made me feel like I'm watching the most generic anime ever, and the main theme was literally power of friendship.
Soundtrack was considerably worse too imo

Persona 4, from what I can tell, is mostly popular because it's an escapist fantasy unlike other megatens - hell, even Persona 3 -where everything is grimdark and gloomy, Persona 4 lets you self insert into this bright, happy world where everyone revolves around you, and you can't go five minutes without someone telling you how great you are and how you're the best friend ever.

I don't know how many Persona threads you've seen on /v/ it's not something that I'd recommend looking into, but a lot of the complaints that get thrown at 3 are pretty interesting. Lots of people hate how none of your party members give shit about you until halfway through the game and they're constantly butting heads, unlike Persona 4 where you instantly unlock social links and everyone is super duper best friends. Junpei and Yukari in particular seem to cop a lot of hate for challenging you or being "a bitch", when they're actually fairly grounded and human characters.

I might be talking out my ass here, but I feel like people don't want those kind of characters in their JRPGs. Instead everything has to be based around constant positive reinforcement, where they're being told that they're unique and special, and that people want to be associated with them.

As far as I know, yes. Usually two main stats and one or two "sub" stats. Magic is useless on MC and Intelligence isn't all that useful too. So it's a juggle between the other stats.
It's just a case of wanting a ninja MC or a complete tank MC. Making him a damage dealer is kinda risky.

Strenght isn't really worth it, because you will never do significant damage to bosses with simple slash attacks. Not to mention that you will be too busy dispensing items, and summoning demons.

If you want to breeze through the dungeons and random encounters, just buy a strong sword for the MC, fuse a sword with a status ailment for Nemissa, and have a strong Zoma.

Soul Hacker's MC doesn't get any skills. Magical or physical. So he never gets to do much damage with or without Strength boosts. Also by typical SMT standards, if he dies it's game over so you need him to be a tough guy and avoid damage.

It really varies from game to game. I think that is not as viable in SMT I and II, but in Soul Hackers it is because you have Nemissa and Zoma as permanent party members.

I think that all the MCs without skills benefit from being lucky tanks with some agility on the side, and spare points put into INT and MA to endure spells and wear special equipment (which in most cases only require 10 points at most).

With luck being important for negotiations, avoiding status ailments and insta-death spells, and because luck ensures that bullets with status ailments always land.
