Only if you look at the potency on the skill. Fell Cleave is 500*1.2=600 because of Maim, which should have 100% uptime. Goring Blade is 540 potency, 320 of which isn't even affected by Storm's Eye. DRG's Chaos Thrust is also 600 potency total, meaning Goring isn't the strongest DoT.

Yeah, "a variety of reasons" includes "they have to give up their bread-and-butter mitigation tool to use it".

I'm not complaining about it and I think it and Warrior in general are balanced pretty well (against DRK, anyway). The way it's set up, Warrior is capable of the best tank damage, but they have to give up almost all of their defense to do it, while Dark Knight gets almost-as-good damage, but retains almost all of their defense while they do it. It's pretty cool synergy-wise.

It's hard to imagine where they could fit Paladin into that spectrum without drastically overhauling the nature of endgame raiding, but if you ignore that, they did a pretty good job with the other two tanks.

Yes, assuming a hypothetical i205 Thordan weapon. Groups are finding themselves unable to clear while also having the absolute maximum level of gear possible (in 3.0) prior to actually clearing A3S (that is, i200 Esoteric weapon/head/chest/legs, i210 Gordian Belt/Gloves/Boots, and i210 accessories). Giving everyone a weapon upgrade, even as slight as a 5 iLevel bump, would be a very significant increase that would push a lot of groups over the edge.

When that weapon upgrade comes in concert with Gobtwines from Void Ark (to upgrade Esoteric chest/legs to i210) and straight up i210 gear from airships, it's going to offer gearing options that simply aren't available to people who aren't already beating A3S.

Even putting the stats aside, a big part of why a lot of people aren't winning is just because it's really demoralizing to know that you have literally the best possible gear on all slots that you can bring to the fight without clearing it, and still find yourself coming up short. The knowledge that you'll be able to come back a little stronger every week will do as much to improve people's chance to clear as the actual stats will.

Well, okay. My static already blew up on A3 and I am done with raiding because I didn't have any fun with it. I sort of want the loot, but it's not worth the stress of finding another group or the time committment.

Our problem was less of a dps issue and more of a communication one. No amount of gear will help when half your static, including both tanks, doesn't use mics.

Esoteric weapons are made redundant by Thordan weapons.

Esoteric armor is made redundant by i210 drops from exploratory missions.

The only Esoteric pieces that MIGHT not be outclassed by gear that has no weekly cap/lockout are accessories, and that's only if airships don't drop accessories, which we don't even know for sure.

The weapon is the safest buy, if only because it's going to make it easier to beat Thordan than any other Esoteric buy.
