Is there any other genre that goes from fun to unfun in an hour?
>>
>games having depth is now a bad thing
>>
>>390175808
It's clear you don't really want to /learn/ the game. You're just content with casually playing and slapping some buttons.

Any game can be like that. You can just causally play it and not get better, but a lot of people wouldn't call that "fun". Sure, you can go too far too fast. But for the most part, yes, after you learn Punch, Kick, Block, you might want to start looking into how the game mechanics actually work to fully enjoy it.
>>
>>390176136
this desu
>>
>>390176136
There is a difference between learning and gradually getting better, and having to learn books worth of completely new information just to play online and win from time to time.
>>
>>390176638
No there isn't. Because maybe learning books worth of completely new information is something you just learn and gradually do.

I mean, did you sit down and just read 4 years worth of math at once in highschool? No. It was gradual.
>>
>>390175808
Yeah, your fucking shit life for example.
>>
>>390176638
There isn't when you don't understand what fighting game fundamentals are. Before you bitch, they're spacing and safe and unsafe attacks. In the case of 3D fighters also sidestepping.
>>
>>390176638
You don't have to memorize strings and frame data just to win online, sperglord. You can still manage to win games just fine without knowing anything in-depth about the game's mechanics but eventually you'll just hit a ceiling where you're getting defeated by people clearly more knowledgeable than you and you'll just have to buck the fuck up and git gud
>>
>>390175808
you seem annoyed by your friend more than anything
>>
>>390175808
Fighting games are actually pretty tame compared to shit like RTS games since the curve for playing online isn't that harsh

That said, it has more to do with who you play with. I made the mistake of being convinced by a friend and getting Starcraft 2. I was rewarded with a 1 hour video of build order and apm after the first game with him. At least let me play the fucking campaign first
>>
>>390175808
Hero shooters.
Mobas.
>>
>>390176973
But it's not gradual. You either learn theory until your eyes bleed instead of playing, or get fucked online by everyone because you don't know shit.

>>390177246
So once again, I have to read instead of playing. Videogames are sure fun!

>>390177282
You can hit this ceiling in a couple hours. And then you're back at square 1 - reading shit.
>>
>>390178552
Just stick to walking simulators bro
>>
>>390175808
Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.
>>
>>390175971
>tekken
>depth
LOL
>>
>>390178810
I'm not a Fighter guy, but I watched some Tekken gameplay and it looked like dogshit to me. It was like constant cutscenes mid-fight that would completely kill the pace.
>>
>>390177759
RTS games are literal baby mode compared to fighting games
>>
Tekken is the only fighting game where learning aspects of frame data is important for punishing people especially into higher echelons of play as opposed to most other fighters. You need to know when you can use a 10 frame or 11 frame move in a particular circumstance like punishing. It's not like say Street Fighter where you can sort of try and get a read or prediction and land hits that way without any regard for frame data. If someone whiffs a fierce shoryuken you don't need to know the frame data on that move as you have a shitload of time to hurt them with whatever moves you want.
>>
>>390179037
>playing Tekken for the fucking story mode
>>
>>390179157
>Tekken is the only fighting game where learning aspects of frame data is important for punishing people
You would have to be FUCKING RETARDED and someone who has never played any other fighting game at all to actually believe this.
>>
>>390179037

Constant? You can only do one rage per character a round. How is that different than super moves from literally any other fighter?
>>
OP try this. I've played for over 50 hours and still have no clue about frame data and such, let alone combos.
>>
>>390176638
Just like it is a lot of work for you to learn all that it is for other people as well so don't assume that everyone else knows the game in and out. There are many people just like you who don't want to memorize shitton of move lists for every character and their properties. So they just play the game and learn little by little.

Now if you don't like the fact that Tekken is very knowledge-heavy game and that just an ignorance of one of numerous tricks the characters have can cost you a game, the game might not be for you. But because it goes both ways - the same can happen to your opponent just as well - it's not true that you'll lose almost all the time just because you're not a huge Tekken nerd.
>>
>>390179157
Either this is bait or you are a retard who doesn't actually play fighting games.
>>
>>390175808
Why don't you just admit to being lazy and careless, anon?

At least you didn't complain that people are better than you at the game, though since you're complaining about learning combos you probably just forgot to mention it.
>>
>>390179157
Nah, the only difference is that in Tekken there's more frame data to memorize because of the huge move lists.
>>
>>390179157
This is what tekkucks actually believe
>>
>>390179392
>Tekken is very knowledge-heavy game

>>390179245
I'm talking about those "special moves" or whatever in the middle of a fight where the camera zooms in on a character and they do some fancy shit. It completely kills the pace and makes it feel like I'm watching an anime.

>>390179321
Like I said, I'm not a fighter guy so maybe that's not atypical for a fighting game. I think it's retarded honestly.
>>
>>390179830
It's a fun game to play at a button masher level because cool stuff happens when you just mash the buttons. It's got a high knowledge barrier for those who want to play it intelligently. And I don't equate having a high knowledge barrier with depth - other fighting games have the advantage that it is easier to apply intelligence and strategy with less memorization. That's in their favor.

No i've been playing fighting games for many decades. The only one retarded here is you for disregarding the rest of my post.

In most other fighters the properties of most special moves and moves are real easy to see if they're horribly unsafe or not. Others can be done with trial and error or by visual confirmation with actual prior knowledge of frame data. e.g Punishing shoto sweeps with Q's SA1 in 3S or using Gief's crouching Fierce to beat Tatsu's in ST. But in Tekken at higher play you have to know which of your large move lists for your specific character is the 10 frame move or the 11 frame move as your go to reliable launchers/punishers. If the recovery on a particular move leaves your opponent at -11 frames and you use a 12f punisher because it does more damage, that's a costly error. In other games if someone whiffs a move badly, like a bad shoryu move or slow ass long normal with obvious recovery then you don't need to know the specific frames on those moves. The punishment and counterattack is obvious in those regards.

The only alternative to skill based is luck based. Do you think JDCR keeps winning almost every tournament he is in by sheer luck? Judging from tournament results the game might be even too skill based for its own good because people are quite bored of seeing so many JDCR vs Saint grand finals.
>>
>>390179579

Actually I am an old school ST player. I've got decades of fightan game experience under my belt to know what i'm talking about. While frame data is nice, hitbox data was more important in 2D fighters.
>>
>>390179131
I didn't say the opposite. I was talking about the skill curve (and having shitty friends). You can learn fighting games more gradually, even if the skill ceiling is higher, and slowly climb the ladder. For RTSs you need to memorize a bunch of bullshit if you don't want to get stomped online. After that it's just repeating the same actions faster than the other guy.

I bet you're ass; anyone who knows how to play these games knows better than to scare away beginners. Just let them win, and slowly up the difficulty as they get better and tell them how to 'beat you' and then change or add another thing to the strategy.

Movement, buttons, key moves/specials, basic combos/strings, reading and conditioning. Your pseudo fgc bullshit was about as useful as a guy who brings up commitment on the first date.

For me, MOBAs and the like. In fighters you can do riskier things that confuse or lead to new opportunities that up the likely hood your opponent will make rushed shit decisions; in team games especially, if you aren't following the game plan and responding to your side you are actually playing incorrectly. Also it will never matter how good I am if my team is ass. Big part of why I stopped playing non arena shooters as well.

Not the mentor over there but literally just spend some time in the lab practising your korean backdashes. Feng's shoulder is one of the best whiff punishers in the game

If you teach yourself how to backdash properly you can decimate the string spamming blue ranks by simple being outside of their range and then shouldering them whenever they whiff stuff. Or even better than shoulder you could whiff punish with f3,4 and do a full combo depending on how confident you are.
>>
>>390186337

Some more general advice for that is
>Start memorising opponent characters string so you aren't pressing buttons during them
>ALWAYS prioritise stand blocking over crouch blocking
Unless your opponents character has a snake edge -which eventually become somewhat reactable once you've played long enough- don't be scared to be whacked by a few lows. It's the mid launchers and counterhits you need to be worried about.

If you are getting pressured really hard b1 can help you get out especially if they are jabbing a lot. Also there is an evasive stance I think its b+3+4? Shoulder is really strong keepout as well most people will run full speed into and make their approaches super obvious in low ranks. Shoulder them every time they come dashing in until they learn to respect it.
