What these games should do, in PUG play, is manage team composition a bit. X amount of DPS picked? Remaining choices are restricted to tank/healer etc. Everyone gets the chance to "choose first" on some type of rotation. Less frustration and variance in results due to team composition and more exposure to different characters/play styles.

This really isn't true. There are so many games where bad tanks are putting your team at a disadvantage before the fight even breaks out, but DPS will usually take the blame.

Take a Winston who dives headfirst into enemy lines every time, without any consideration for timing or context. If the enemy team aren't potatoes they will clean him up and mop up the rest. And your team will never be able to push properly. Not every time, the Winston may even get a kill. He'll be sitting on gold elims and silver damage and wonder, along with the rest of the team, why the DPS aren't doing their jobs. But he's making their jobs harder. Bad tank (and healer) performances are often masked, while DPS can be good enough to carry the team if the rest of the team is actually functioning, but it isn't and your shitty Winston is screaming down the mic about his medals so the whole team loses faith in the dps.

How do I get out of bronze? I'm a Mercy main and don't think I'm that bad at it, I'm also happy to play other roles on the rare occasions the situation calls for it. But no matter what I do I get paired with a lot of very poor players, quitters and people who refuse to compromise with the team. The only communication I tend to see is people complaining when the team fails, nothing proactive at all.
When I get good teams with a pre-made group they usually praise me and invite me to join but I'm quite shy and don't like the pressure of something like that so I decline, but I'm finding it impossible to go anywhere in solo queue.
Is the only solution to wait until the next and make sure I do better in the placement games or is there some secret formula?

I placed in gold and made my way to master in one season by instalocking Soldier 76 and this is my first FPS game. No mic too. A lot of games were triple and quad DPS because I instalocked DPS but I still managed to win some games because I carried. Another important fact is that maining heroes instead of flexing pays off but nobody tells you this, because when you master a hero and lose a game, you lose less SR because of performance based gains/losses. If you try to fill and pick Winston or Lucio you get cucked when you lose SR because you lose a lot and you get cucked when you win with small gains.

at least overwatch was an ATTEMPT at creating something fresh and adding to the formula
brown'n'bloom had a massive sea of uninspired, forgettable experiences that boiled the fps genre into three distinct camps: halo-like (slow), cod-like (fast), and battlefield-like (inbetween). no room for bigger developers to experiment at all. because of this, the only way for bigger developers to make money is not through making new and exciting games like they SHOULD be, but instead releasing a game and then building on that game with a paid-dlc model, which is absolutely CANCEROUS, and a result of the stagnation that these games caused in the industry
by the time companies started to try and experiment again, these dlc policies and "playing safe" attitudes had spread to every part of the fucking industry.
>oh, skyrim was really successful and was open-world? better make our game open-world, too, because that's obviously what the consumer wants!

fuck you. fuck everything about this STUPID fucking poll and EVERYONE who voted for overwatch, because the largest capacity their brains can function at is "popular=bad", without understanding the reason WHY /v/ has come to this conclusion.
overwatch is an objectively awful game from a competitive standpoint, but the success of the game and the subsequent influence it will have on future shooters is at least better than brown'n'bloom, and thank fucking christ for that
