Its a ps4 exclusive, which makes the large nintendo and PC gaming audience here angry, and it has an ugly girl as the protag. Now i dont usually go out of my way to defend games. But NV is a fucking masterpiece. I can agree it is somewhat dated when you compare it to some much more recent games. But the level of freedom that game gives you and the number of relevant choices you can make to shape the history makes it a very rich experience with very few contenders from that time until today.

Story is not necessarily that important in video games.
HOWEVER, in Openworld games it serves as one the two major forces urging exploration. Along with staggered exploration/progression, like in inFamous, where you start with a hub, and as the story progresses, more hubs become available.
Breath of the Wild lacks both of those forces and thus, loses its luster very quickly.
Without satisfying, tangible progression (traditional LoZ items earned in dungeons, visible story progression, unlockable moves, etc) the game falls apart at the seams.
Metroidvanias do this so well because there is a constant unfolding of the map--a constant sense of progression.

Weapon durability, the stamina system, survival shit
Weapon durability requires forced usage of all weapons. That’s cool, but don’t tell me that’s freedom. It’s not. You can’t find a weapon you likes and only use that. They should’ve gone for a Diablo-type weapon system of constantly swapping out weapons for different stats w/ no durability.
The stamina system especially is poorly designed. To design a system where your capacity for openworld traversal is hampered is questionable from a design standpoint. It’s irritating.
Again, using inFamous, you have the ability to speed along powerlines and train rails. No stamina needed. Second Son has Neon running without stamina. Xenoblade Chronicles X also removes the stamina system needed to sprint. You can sprint forever and it's VERY satisfying especially when used in conjunction with the moon-jump .
BotW never gives the player an ability like that aside from fast travel because the game would become trivial. Their entire premise of "explore the world!" would fall apart. They've nothing else to offer the player in the form of unlockables or story progression.

Wolfenstein II and Mario are on the top of my list. I've been itching for a good platformer and genuinely enjoyed the heck out of the first Wolfenstein with its character driven direction and Half-life vibes.

Prey unfortunately did not resonate with me and I was never a fan of the Persona titles to begin with, so it was a given I wouldn't take to 5. Cuphead and Divinity are ones I definitely want to check out, too.

It recharges on it's own every few minutes. It's a pain to have it break mid-battle, but by the time you get it I legitimately have stopped using most other weapons until it starts raining or you need something elemental. The fights in the game don't usually happen fast enough to need anything more than a new sword every couple of minutes, and if you do? That's what the 20+ other weapon slots are for.
